SRR lose to PBF in a mythical matchup. PBF much more athletic and slick than any of SRR past opponents.
Put the crack pipe down for a minute.
If Mayweather told you that you should get a sex change would you believe him? You just seem to believe all that bullshit that he spins.
i have no problem with old skool greats getting too much credit... old skool fighters occupy the highest positions and rankings of the most reputable boxing trainers, historians, writers and enthusiasts' ATG lists... if they believe unanimously that these are the fighters that are up there in the stratosphere of our favorite sport's greatest ever practitioners, so be it...
i still like the present crop of fighters more though... i can relate with them more...
Some film of a prime Ray Robinson does exist, even if the quality is not all that good.
These are only short clips of Robinson but a lot more footage of these and other rare SRR welterweight fights can be found.
Are there any full fights though? Would love to see them if they exist.

Exactly man. It's crazy that we have never even seen anything from Ray when he was in his absolute prime at welterweight because his fights were not filmed. Real sad, actually. Would love to have seen some of those fights.

and his losses came after he was already way over the hill and had retired once.

Of course he wasn't serious. He was saying what the typical response from an ignorant fool would be.

Different era different opponents. Not all the opponents that Sugar Ray fought were big names but his legacy is there because of the memorable ones. When some of the boxers that you see today retired you'll look back and say that was an amazing fight. ex. Corrales vs. Ramirez, Gatti vs. Ward Vazquez vs. Marquez Holyfield vs Bowe.
I can't believe you said that...
Robinson first loss came after 40 fight, 5 more then Mayweather.
When SRR hit is second loss, he was 128-1-2 and realy start hading defeat in the end of is career, the guy fought till he was around 45, 10 defeat past 40.
Mayweather had the greatest ability I saw in boxing, but I agree with miamijohn, Floyd isnt close to SRR achievement.
I hope you werent serious when you maded your statement?
To answer your thread question: Old timer get credit base on what they've done, it doesnt mean they cant be beat by some of today greatess fighter, but the old timer set the standard.

The best response you can get from these guys is something along the lines of:
"19 LOSSES!!!!! WHAT LOSER!!! I DONT CARE IF HE HAD 202 FIGHTS, 19 LOSSES MAKES ANYONE A BUM!!!! FLOYD IS UNDEFEATED!!!!!111!!!!"

Some of the old heavyweights had awful technique and would be bums today.
Maybe in the late 1800's, early 1900's but I'd say that the heavyweights of the past (Tunney, Schmeling, Louis, Charles, Walcott, etc.) had better technique and were better conditioned than most of today's heavyweights.
Not as successful because fighters in those days fought the best competition on a regular basis.
Not to mention that with his brittle hands he would never be able to fight as often as fighters back then had to in order to make a living.
They are sometimes given a little too much credit yeah, but I gotta admit things were different back then.
Most old timers are given too much credit. If floyd was in srr's era wouldnt you think hed be succesful?
