Can you guys help me out here??
There are often statements made by fight commentators such as; blood impresses judges, agression impresses judges.
Sometimes judges are announced as doctors. Do these people judge fights full time? Why do they score points educated fans would not??
I am just curious if anyone has any info on the guys that decide the fate of the fights..
Thanks
If that was an official rule Doug Tucker would've been banned from boxing.
If a cutman is bad and fixing cuts he gets fired. If a trainer doesn't improve a fighter he gets fired. If a garbageman can't pick up garbage he gets fired. If a judge can't judge without the entire boxing world shaking their head in disgust then he should be fired.
If they have a blatantly ridiculous card, I agree. They should be forced to review their rd by rd wit other officials and explain what they were lookin at. Sumtimes close rds will all go to 1 guy and it creates a controversy. I think they should score even rds more often. If you can't clearly decide who got the better of a rd, just ****in make it 10-10.
even rounds should happen at least 3 times as often as they currently do. Judges are stuck in 10-9 system all the time. Regardless of if punches land or if enough punishment is dealt for a 10-8. I think 10-10's more often would really help scorecards. However, if they became to popular it might be more difficult to give hometown decision w/o creating controversy.

Anyone who misses the mark by more than a few pts on a major fight should be fired or suspended from judging for a while.

They're all given the same criteria to judge fights, but they all have different tastes. Then there's $, location, the promoter, favoritism to champions, and other shit that influences the call on each rds.

Doctor just means they have a doctorate/phd in something, doesn't necessarily mean they are an MD.
"Educated" fans arent always as educated as they think, and these same "educated fans" don't even always agree with one another.
I don't think you necessarily have to go to any sort of special training to become a judge (especially in states with shitty commissions and if you are doing tiny shows) but it does help you get licensed in that state. I know that yearly there is a conference that goes on for 3-4 days where you can take symonars on judging and refereeing, but I cant tell you specifics. (There is a poster on B*xR*c who is currently a judge and is moving up the ranks to some pretty decent sized shows, who gives me info about different aspects of it, post a thread about judging there and I assure you he will find it and answer all your questions. Just dont be too critical as he gets very defensive)
Thanks man... You pretty much nailed it for me. I know the phd thing. I was just curious. great info.
