i dont mean the one before the margarito fight, i'm talking about the cotto that beat quintana, judah and mosley, the cotto who would come forward with a powerful thumping jab and throw powerful body head combos, the cotto who would only retreat when he has to or needs to.
since the Gomez fight Cotto has changed, he thinks he is some sort of an elite slick boxer, unnecessarily jumping up and down and hoping on his toes, trying to fight out of a shoulder roll,
he backs up opponents with combination's and then he himself backs off, such as in the margo fight where he would land 4 or 5 punches and back margo up and instead of capitalizing like mosley did he would back off and start hopping on his toes, same thing i noticed last night in the jennings fight, cotto had jennings against the rope, lands a huge combo, hurts jennings and backs off.
now what is up with that?
cotto needs to fire his uncle and go with a better trainer, a roach, a floyd sr or maybe even a ronnie shields.
Cotto has almost always been that way.. he fought like that early in his career.
exactly. this was the cotto of old. it seemed like after he became jr. welterweight champion he started with that brawling-look-for-the-knockout-first style. now he's going back to what made him a champion in the first place.
and he did not fight smart against margarito. that's not what got him beat. his game plan was terrible when he fought margarito.
yeah i know, i've been following his career closely since he turned pro, he has always been a fast 'slick' fighter such as in the abdulaev, ndou and sosa fights but he was more of a come forward slick educated pressure fighter, since the gomez fight he has been different, i think gomez gave him some kind of false belief that he was a better counter puncher than he is a pressure fighter.
I've never known Cotto to be a "slick" fighter.. More of a technical boxer puncher that applys lots of pressure. He does what gets the job done and doesn't worry about being flashy.
Where are you coming up with this shit? I don't know if you got the news update, but Cotto won by TKO after he knocked his opponent down three times. He fought a perfect fight! His body shots were amazing and his footwork. The one thing he didn't do in the fight with Margarito was tie him up while his back was against the ropes. Cotto admitted he didn't believe in doing that as a strategy in any of his fights. That was before he watched Mosley use that strategy against Tony to beat him. All Mosley did to beat Marg was throw combo's, then tied him up to allow the ref to give him back his space till he worn marg down.
yes i watched the fight and it proved to me cotto will have some problems when facing elite fighters such as joshua clottey.

Cotto has always moved slick and lightly on his feet, people here watch Cotto's recent fights and now think they know his entire Repertoire. But he has if anything improved his boxing skills and defensive work. It's not a bad thing.
also it sems as most of the time cotto is just showing off, like when he leaves his hand in the air after landing a punch.
That I can admit is pretty Sadistic!..lol..but he does it for the fans!..he don't talk much..but he lets his hands do the talking..I personally love when he holds his hand in the air after connecting on his opponent..it's like a "what Bitch!"..lol
Cotto looked good man but its to be expected against Gary Lockett's afterbirh
in Jennings
My only fault with Cotto is when he blocks shots he sits there for an hour with his hands still in blocking postion over exaggerated to the max lol like
he wants major props for blocking hehe
But alright performance though
B-Ron i agree 100% your brain is the most important weapon in any sport and non more so than boxing. Floyd said it best "i don't beat my opponents because of my power or speed but because of my brain, im always 10 steps ahead" I think Cotto has come on alot! casual fans of the sport may think cotto isn't as exciting as he once was but, what kept happening when he thought in that manner? he was getting knocked down and stunned on a regular basis. Hes now alot more controlled and the way he fights now is better for his health and for us fans, he could start fighting like gatti and ward and have a short career as such and could become permanently damaged but the way he fights now is exciting and it also means he will be around for a lot longer.

You've just contradicted yourself.....
