I honestly hope this statement was a joke
no it's not, maybe i just have higher standards but a great fighter to me is one who fights the best fighters all the time, seeks unification fights and doesnt give reasons not to make fights.
those are fighters like;
Thomas Hearns
Marco Antonio Barrera
Lennox Lewis
Marvin Hagler e.t.c.
with Floyd and Joe, we speak mostly about the fights they should've made rather than the one's they were in.
which classic fights were these 2 engaged in for example? i mean Floyd is my favourite boxer now, but the man had an opportunity to unify all the divisions he fought in but choose not to. That's not greatness to me.
a fighter like Rafael Marquez still wants a piece of Israel Vasquez after 3 brutal wars, PBF retired instead of giving a part timer like ODLH a rematch....
depends on whose the object. for real boxing fans, the resume and how the fight concluded win or lose is more important.
for nuthuggers and haters, it'll be underrated or overrated.
0 Loses in Boxing is the most over-hyped thing in all of sports..It all depends on level of compeititon and willing to face the best....Any fool with the right management and protection can end up undefeated...SRL,Ali,Robinson,Duran,Hearns,and Hagler all lost why? cuz they fought the best not running around dodging the best looking for silly non important belts that don't mean anything. No excuses of fanbases etc just wanting to prove there worth and that is what is missing from Boxing today!
Mayweather could have been a real ATG but he chose $$ over boxing greatness. Gatti, Baldomir, an Old DLH anyone? He screwed up an played it safe late in his career rather than face the best.
Last time I checked Floyd is an all time great. Top 40-50 fighters of all time if u ask me...Wins over prime Corrales, Castillo twice, Judah,G.Hernandez...5 titles in 5 weightclasses. Not a legend but he's a HOFer.
Floyd Mayweather Jr did both, that's why he's an ATG.

Like Teddy Atlas mentioned recently boxing is now all about have 0 losses and protecting your record at all costs, it used to be about fighting the best and putting on a good performance win or lose.
marciano got no losses but ali thumps him in any reputable all time P4P rankings... that "0" means little if the fighter does not take a risk in fighting the best out there... in this sense, theres a lot more to admire in oscar than calzaghe and floyd jr... oscar faced all the best fighters in this present era, save perhaps tszyu at 140, forrest and wright at 154... oscar essentially ducked nobody... even the great hopkins at 160... he did not always win but the golden boy always sought the best available opposition in his time...
Who did Floyd and Joe duck? You can make an argument for Floyd duckin Cotto and maybe Joe duckin Dawson. Ur speaking as if it was 3-4 guys each.
It depends on how the fight plays out, and of course if the loser was talkin uncalled for shit prior to the fight. For the most part, losin to an A class fighter is nothin to be ashamed of.
I think its overrated and bottom line it depends on how they lost.
For example P.Williams got outboxed by Quintana and knocked out Quintana in the rematch.
I think so, boxing these days makes such a big deal about having a perfect record that fighters are running around scared and ducking each other in fear of losing
