Hey guys, probably a stupid idea for a thread but i'm completely in the dark about Moorer (embarrassingly), so was wondering if you guys could recommend me some of his better fights, and just give me some opinions and facts about him?
I heard he had a 100% KO ratio at LHW? I also heard he's a bit nuts? and that he doesnt even like boxing?
Basically the complete low-down on him, cause i know next to nothing about him other than his losses to Foreman and Tua!
skilled fighter with power, dodgy chin from what ive seen and heard
he's about twice as good as john ruiz.
ruiz can only hang 19 seconds with tua......
He was a technically solid southpaw who first fought out of Kronk and then was trained by Teddy Atlas, he did have a 100% knockout ratio at 175 but he didn't really fight anyone of note, even though he won a title there, I think he had trouble making 175 so he decided to move up to heavyweight because there was more money there than at cruiserweight.
He had some really good fights with Bert Cooper, Alex Stewart, Vassily Jirov. His performance against Holyfield in their first fight was good, he was doing very well against Foreman before walking into a right hand.
His heavyweight campaign was OK, he became the linear champion after beating Holyfield so it wasn't bad at all.
He was a moody guy, he supposedly could be really nice one day and really cold the next.
About the advise thing, probably the most glaring example is when he lost the title to Foreman, Atlas kept telling him not to get complacent and move into Foreman's right hand to stick to the gameplan but he went against all that and got knocked out.
Cheers guys, i've hit up some fights on youtube which i'll watch this afternoon :)
Can someone elaborate on how he's confrontational and rarely listens to advise? whats he done that makes people think he's a headcase (i hear that a lot about him actually, but i havent actually heard any specific stories).
How come his HW campaign was ill advised, he did ok didnt he?
Sorry about all the questions guys, the answers are much appreciated :)
Bit of a headcase, very confrontational and rarely listened to advice from anyone. At LHW he probably had good potential, the move to heavyweight was fairly ill-advised. As for his better fights, at HW the first fight with Holyfield, and the fight with Foreman (up until the end) were both strong performances.
