Racial pride in Boxing good or bad? some people are all for it and some people are against it. I dont suppose its outright racism, but its bordering on it.
Whats your opinion on it?
its bad for boxing you can see it on here sometimes. when the british people and american people are going at it. and at times i did get into it with them so im not going to sit here and say i never did. but it gets old when we are trying to talk boxing on here and we have people being called dumb yanks and stupid brits. it gets old. just about all my fav fighters are black and im white. roy jones, hopkins, dela hoya, shane mosley, ali, frazier. not one white person in there. its not about race its about who you like. who you grew up with. i grew up with all these fighters (except for ali and frazier of course) but i saw enough and read enough to like them and follow their carrers. but to like a fighter for the only fact that they are american or british or PR or whatever isnt wrong but dont go screaming that a PR is better than mexico bc this fighter won this fight. thats not what its about. i dont mind seeing the americans vs PR fight cards and stuff but when it gets out of control on here people calling eachother racist words and bashing their way of life its just annoying.
I'm sorry, but racism, racial pride, even nationalism, all tend to slightly get under my skin. The thread is titled "Racial pride in boxing good or bad", so what I said is not entirely unfitting. I just don't understand your comment that "pride and being proud in the right way is good". I don't see how it's good.
Not accusing you of being racist, btw. You have every right to be proud, but personally, I don't see any benefit to it whatsoever.
how i ment pride and being proud in the right way was kinda like how i do it. i'm in the army and that's a huge melting pot, i invite a bunch of my buddies over to watch ppv's all the time. some are black guys and some are white and some are latino's, and various others. we all basically root for our favorite fighters, some of us root for our own and some don't, it's a big mix. but noone actually takes it as deep as racism. it's all in good fun, we're all friends and a lil rivalry is fun.but i can see how ignorance could fall into play with the wrong type of people. put it this way, if you're an ignorant asshole, you would'nt be invited to one of my ppv's anyways. this is kinda what i mean. now if someone is actually saying stupid shit like hew, all mexican fighters are the best and we do this and we do that then yea, that's straight retarded.
racial pride is just dumb ... patriotic pride makes sense to me. to like the guy from your country or hometown. but it does gets ridiculous with some people.
That's what I'm saying. Some dudes be taking this shit too far though. It's only stupid and pathetic when racist assholes start making racist remarks-so the joke is on them. Them narrow-minded assholes are simply making themselves look bad.
I don't see nothing wrong when I see shit like:
Proud to be an American!
It is just dumb asses be making shit look bad.
individuality is thrown out the window when the racial pride comes in...
the fighters achievement (if any) will be over shadowed by comments such as " hes black thats why hes so athletic" or "latino fighters never back down"
so is with nationalistic pride.. it all boils down to prejudice to the fighter.
a true fan of any individual or team sport is indifferent to what a player/s background.
just look at team sport, ima big fan of the NBA and i root for specific teams, but im halfway around the globe..
There are way too many politically correct panty wearing pussies on this forum.
I don't know if I'd call them "politically correct panty wearing pussies".... I think "intelligent individuals" might be more appropriate. Its not that they are afraid of hurting anothers feelings regarding race... its that the world is sick to death of hearing: "I'm superior because I'm white"... or "I'm discriminated against because I'm black"... or "I can fit 50 in my compact car because I'm hispanic"
There are way too many politically correct panty wearing pussies on this forum.
has nothing to do with being politically correct. You're just a ****ing racist ******.
exactly. i live in south florida which is a melting pot for ppl of all races, ethnicites, and backgrounds.....i don't know how the hell racists survive down here. LOL
p.s. i'm black w/ a white girlfriend from new hampshire by-way-of ukraine. best girl i've ever gotten to kno......before that i had a puerto rican, and before that were two peruvians. i stopped giving a **** about race when i was like 8 mos. old!
Oh man.. I moved all around Florida for 2 years as a Mormon missionary. I never made it further south than Jupiter, but that place is a melting pot of all races... and all cultures. If I had a dollar for every time a Haitian voodoo hex was placed on me, I could retire at 25!
Come on now, who are you trying to kid?
Idiot before there was Tito or Cotto, my favorite fighters were Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. I am a fan of all types of fighters Kessler, Kirkland, Linares, Areola, Dawson and many more. I'm a fan of boxing, not of skin color or a country.
racial pride is fine. but its the kind of people on this forum who are overly biased towards there race, that annoy the $h!t outa me
Absolutely... I fail to see the need for ever including race into the equation... but those who are biased TOWARDS their race are far more annoying than any of those biased against other races.
most sensible post......
disagree. that's like saying black people shouldn't be proud of barack obama.
i don't see anything wrong w/ identifying w/ someone and rooting for them based on their race. like dude said, it gets sketchy when you "don't root for someone" or put someone else down based on theirs.
IMO it makes some boxing matches more interesting, it's good for the sport.
They shouldn't be proud in Barack Obama because he's black. They should be proud with themselves for picking the best candidate.
DEFINITION: pleasure or satisfaction taken in something done by or belonging to oneself or believed to reflect credit upon oneself.
Now, if you notice within the definition, it says something done by or belonging to oneself.... I happen to not believe that people belong to a certain race. I happen to believe it's apart of you, be it culturally or nationally, but you should NOT be defined by your race or nationality.
so you cant be proud when your son scores 3 TDs in a game because YOU weren't the one that accomplished it?
To an extent, you can be. If you were out there, teaching him the game, it bonded you two and you both shared moments. Yes. That has a lot to do with potentially you developing the child and teaching him things.
If he just joined the team and happened to be good? No. You can be happy, and happy you were alive to see it, but not proud in any other sense.
I think there's nothing wrong with it, except when is taken to extremes. When you only support fighters because of their race and nationality, that's when it goes wrong. Race or nationality to me are not important at all, skill and style are hat matters to me. Miguel Cotto could be black and from Somalia, I would still be his fan because I like his boxing style, the fact that he's puertorican is just a plus.
You and I are on the same page man... I'm just saying, Barak is not black... at best he's milk chocolate LOL... but he is a good man. It would have been just as meaningful... if not MORE meaningful, if a woman would have been elected. I was only saying that if Barak Obama was ALL white... and still stood for everything that he does at this moment, it wouldn't have been any less of a victory. If we were as black as a moonless night on the ocean floor... it wouldn't be any more of a victory. I'm a white guy, with a Mexican girlfriend, and I hope we have a black baby someday (though I don't know how we'll work that out)... because I've just met so many people of every different color that I admire. It's to the point where I eventually had to quit noticing color all together because there are no stereotypes... there are no molds, so why even pay attention to color.

No, its not "bad". Saying its bad is a politically correct way of thinking and goes against nature.
Everyone wants their own race to win deep down. If anyone tells you otherwise, they are lying that asses off.
No they dont. Why would they? people are individuals and, if someone is dumb enough to think their race is better at something than another race and that, that somehow means they must be superior, because they have that complexion they are thick as two short planks.
Im an individual im not the same as anyone else white or black.
