According to a certain website, HBO has rejected Ishe Smith for a 2/14 replacement opponent for "Perro".
Hey guy, what do you think....would Ishe be a good opponent for Angulo?
His manager say that Ishe is one of the elites of the division.
Dan Rafael outlook about the situation
Pat (NY): Why did HBO reject Ishe Smith? I think that would be a good contrast in styles.
SportsNation Dan Rafael: Why would HBO accept him? Terrible style fight. And what has Ishe done lately to deserve the fight anyway?
Steve Kim just reported that as of now, it looks like Angulo is off the card completely....
Life ain't fair
****in' HBO. Something is better than nothing.
HBO is probbaly still having nightmares over the Powell fight. I dont blame them. That said, who didnt enjoy the Julio fight? I thought that was a well contested, quality boxing match. Maybe it's just me. Ishe will be a lot more entertaining against a brawler since he likes to counter punch. This is about as good as you can do. I'm disappointed in HBO. I think part of it is them being afraid of Ishe upsetting Angulo, which is a real possibility.
I think HBO should have approved him. He's not an elite in the division, but he's good enough for Angulo at this point in his career and HBO has approved worse fighters in recent fights at the weight. Brian Vera comes to mind.
So does Tarver/Dawson rematch.......
Well Ishe advisor thinks he bring an even better style and more bang for your buck in this fight then Mayorga would.
Tommy Morrison's new promoter says he's HIV negative and will bring the heavyweight title to Wyoming.
An adviser/manager would say anything to advance his clients cause, understand what I'm saying? If you've seen Ishe Smith and you've seen Mayorga, you know who is the more exciting fighter.
im so ****en pissed off i wanted to see mayorga vs el perro..I doubt any fighter will come close to being as exciting as seeing mayorga fight el perro...But ouma wouldn't be bad..thx hbo for not going with ishe..I don't think el perro will even fight aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
It was meant as a joke, Corley is a 140 pounder. Queen Leia has something against the Chopster.
BTW, Corley won by 7th round TKO, his opponent's corner threw in the towel.
I'd prefer to see Kassim Ouma, Alfonso Gomez or Joe Greene step in. Maybe even K9 Bundrage.
Joe Greene would be a great replacement, that would be a real good prospect fight; Greene would actually fight a top fighter for the first time. Gomez would get brutalized though and Ouma's head ain't in it anymore. I say, scrap Cintron and throw Angulo in their against Martinez. That'd be a great fight, but there's too much risk there for Shaw.
The last time Ishe Smith was on HBO he stunk out the joint against Sechew Powell. I'd rather not go down that road again.
Smith would have been completely defensive and not offer anything back in return. He would have made Angulo look bad and the sport at the same time.
What about Grady Brewer? He's training for a fight in Oklahoma (that used to be a secret) on February 28 so he could be reasonably ready. He won The Contender, that's gotta mean something, right?
thank goodness they did. replacing Mayorga with Ishe Smith is pretty much a total 180 in the excitement catagory.
Im still good with Angulo vs. K-9, personally. unless someone like Kassim Ouma would like to step in.
shame on you people saying Vera, that poor guy has taken enough beatings the past year. give him some time to recoop
I agree with all this, Smith makes every fight he's in a borefest. I'd ask for my money back if he's on the main event, I don't care if he hasn't been clearly beaten or not.
I blame K9 more than Brewer for that boring ass fight; duke is notorious for holding and showed it in that fight.
LMAO you are so bad!
I'm tellin Chop you posted this!
I think Ishe is a great guy, but he's not a very exciting fighter. To have him replace Mayorga would be a let down for Mayorga fans.
Ishe may not be an exciting fighter by himself but I imagine watching Angulo run through him would be pretty exciting. Besides he is better than nothing, HBO wants to build Angulo up there has to be someone standing on the other end of the ring.
Man has anybody fallen off as hard as Ouma in the last few years. I remember I was really high on Kassim back when this site first took off and Ouma was dominating the likes of Jantuah and JC Candelo. Jantuah was no punk and Kassim ate him up.
Then that Karmazin fight went down and it all turned around. The Rubio fight was a good turn around, but then he got his face mashed by JT. He had no business losing to guys like K9 or the other scrub he lost to. Crazy.
It'd be a good replacement though. Kassim does have a stout chin still and he'd be all about the action.just took too many hard shots it seems. Taylor and Karmazin are pretty big punchers, and he ate up a lot from both of them
I have a feeling hes going to be gone soon, so Id like him to get a nice payday/semihigh profile fight before he falls off the radar even more.
it would be a nice style matchup because of their punch output, and the fact that he lives in Florida makes it a pretty easy fight to set up.
Ouma is 154lb guy who lives in the Palm Beach area last time I checked, and he hasnt fought in a few months.
you would get a huge amount of punches in an Angulo-Ouma fight.
