There has been a few threads here and there about who could beat floyd and at what weight. But no one has picked or said anything that i have noticed about Tommy "hitman" Hearns.
In my opinion, that long hard jab and strong relentless punching of Hearns is the only 1 I would be surprised if Floyd beat. I cold see Floyd beating Whitaker, SRL, Duran, Pryor, and all the other greats of the last era around 147 lbs, but hearns I see him losing too if they were to fight.
What do yall think abot the Hitman Hearns?
** Pryor and Leonard both would beat the ugly out of prettyboy and make it look easy just to keep it on topic.
Plenty of other fighters to beat him too, or at least cause a LOT of problems. Floydy's welter resume is really weak and tiny overall. Taking on Oscar under Oscar's conditions is worth noting, but for the money he got, most fighters would go out on their shields against Godzilla, but I digress.
Pryor had very underrated boxing abilities that you can see in the first Arguello fight. Check out the later rounds when he rests by "boxing." The way Pryor set up the finish has been buried under the controversy of the "black bottle."
Pryor chose to fight in a more open frenetic fashion because it suited his personality, but he could change up things when sufficiently motivated as Alexis put him in that first fight. I regard that fight as the most brilliant overall fight I've ever seen on so many levels. Neither Alexis nor Aaron get near enough credit for it.
Pryor could never win points or fame just boxing as Pryor, so like Marvin, he chose the KO route to a greater degree like any self respecting monster would. I can understand how some would rate Leonard over him because of stylistic or competition preferences, but Pryor could do whatever it took to win as good as anyone in the history of the biz in his prime. He was just too dangerous on the risk/reward factor for many and that hampered him.
I disagree on many thing you write about Pryor. Most importantly he would never be as versatile as Ray Leonard or Mayweather Jr., even if he wanted to. He is of course unbelievably good at what he does.
Pryor would be a lightweight these days and Mayweather beats him in one of the best fights to be possibly imagined by a boxing fan.
I dont get this.
If anything Floyd has looked more beatable against the better opponents he has faced.
Judah,Castillo,DLH
But Floyd looked amazing against Gatti.
I guess the fact that Gatti was a 33 year old, C class fighter, 14 years blocking punches with his face, 2 weight classes above his best weight, already stopped twice and beaten 6 times, once against Mickey Ward etc, means nothing to someone with half of Floyd's rod down their throat.
Floyd beats Hearns and Leonard.
Aaaron Pryor gives Floyd a run for his money.
How the fuck does Pryor give Floyd a harder fight than Leonard and Hearns. Pryor was great, but he held his chin high and got hit a lot. He was also smaller and less skilled than both Leonard and Hearns, you don't know shit.
Leonard is on a whole different level than Pryor. Leonard proved on the battlefield that he can do very different thigns to win against top opposition. That is what separates the very top of all time greats from other fighters IMO.

P4p maybe. But as is we can only compare them for a hypothetical fight at a weight (147) they both fought at. At that weight the only advantage I give Floyd is defense and a slight edge in speed. Tommy was a better body puncher, had a better jab, had avantages in reach and hieght and was an offensive juggernaut. Floyd was a 1 or 2 punch guy who hardly ever opened up at this weight.
I agree, wasn't it clear from my post?
Hmmmm, very interesting that you claim Pryor wasn't on level of Leonard or Hearns.
Maybe he didn't achieve as much as they did in terms of legacy, but when they were all in their prime i think Pryor was on the level of both fighters . But what people forget is Pryor was never defeated in his prime.
Was the number #1 lighweight contender but the was avoided so moved up to the Lw division, were he stopped hall of famer Antonio Cervantes in 4 for the WBA title, and would go on to make 8 title defecnes and in those defences stopped the great Alexis Arguello x2 and then would go on to win the IBF title and make a defence.
In my mind he was also avoided my Ray Lenoard, people even say Ray moved up a weight class to avoided Pryor in the amature's. And also he would never accept the challage of Pryor.
It just such a shame that drugs got hold of Aaron Pryor, because i belive The Hawk could of been up there with the likes of Leanord, Armsrotng, Greb, Robinson etc if drugs had not got hold of him.
He also beat Thomas Hearns in the Golden Glove final(Amature), and i think he could of beat Tommy in his prime in the pro ranks.
Your avater shows a Ring Magzine cover, the same Ring Magzine that done a list The 80 Best Fighters of the Last 80 Years in 2003 - in which they ranked Aaron Pryor number #35 and Thomas Hearns number #67. 32 Places, so Ring also think Pryor had a better legacy.
So to say Pryor was not on the level of Hearns and Leonard in his prime is a pretty silly comment.
I have no problem with having Hearns and Pryor on the same level. No problem at all. I might disagree, not even sure, but I don't have a problem.
However -and let me play wpink1 here, who probably won't show up since SRL is not in the thread title (bait to you wpink :P )-
Leonard is on a whole different level than Pryor. Leonard proved on the battlefield that he can do very different thigns to win against top opposition. That is what separates the very top of all time greats from other fighters IMO.
Floyd has the ability to beat all the other ATG's in his weight.
Fighting harder opponents brings out the best in fighters like Floyd and i seriously believe his ring intelligence helps him beat many other ATG's.

:hail:
I rate pryor very highly, got a dvd of his shit right in front of me, I never seen a fighter with so little respect for another fighters power. He's a world class boxer too and didnt have to take some of the shots he did (especially from arguello), but he just didnt give a ****, as i said before, forget the pressure castillo and hatton put on floyd, pryor would take that to a whole new level, with a better chin and far better skills than both those guys. Would be a sick fight.

sorry duran and hearns arnt great to me sorry..srl was the best and greatest of that era
How are they not great to you, but Floyd is, when they beat better fighters than Floyd did?
floyd beats duran and hearns..and probaly loses to srl
Lmao at you!! How do you suppose he beats them considering he's never fought anybody remotely close to the caliber of either of these guys?
just saying just becuase its an old school fighter doesnt mean they wn..floyd has never lost so you cant say so and so automatically beats him
I never said just because they were old school they would win. Just because Floyd is undefeated doesn't mean he would win. But the fact is all the guys that have been mentioned (Hearns, Leonard, Duran etc.) have fought other prime all time greats with success, where as Floyd hasn't. Mayweather has never seen a fighter like any of those 3, yet they've all faced one another and are considered legends. Then you take into consideration their styles, how they fought at 147, and how Floyd fought plus who he fought at 147. This isn't farfetched at all if you're objective. And when it comes to Floyd....you clearly are not.

Your nuts! No way Floyd beats SRL he is way faster, more skilled, hit harder, fought better guys, and alltogether a much better fighter.
Pryor and Duran would take his sole. No way he can handle the pressure from thoes greats.
Him and Sweet Pea is a toss up, anybodys fight.
I agree Hearns kills him.
Also imo, currently Mosley, Cotto, and Williams all beat him. Theres a reason he will not fight a quality welterweight, he may say theres not enough money in them, but he can't lie to himself....
Hmmmm, very interesting that you claim Pryor wasn't on level of Leonard or Hearns.

It's just my opinion. I've seen all of them fight and I know who they beat, and Pryor was simply not on their level.
Maybe he could've been, but he wasted his career with drugs and didn't achieve all that much. There have been many would've, could've, should've beens in boxing history but they shouldn't be ranked above those who actually achieved a lot.
Compare Pryor's wins over Arguello and Cervantes to Hearns' wins over Benitez, Duran, Cuevas, Hill, etc.
Beating someone in the amateurs doesn't mean a thing in boxing, especially when it's two teenagers fighting (actually Pryor was 21 while Hearns was 17). I see 6'1 147-154 lb Hearns getting 5'6, 140 lb Pryor out of there inside the distance.
I have the cover of Ring magazine on my avatar because it's a picture of legendary Finnish boxer Gunnar Bärlund, this doesn't mean that I agree with their rankings.
hearns never fought a defensive genious like floyd
LOL Dude you gotta stop looking at Floyd like he's the epitome or the pinnacle of Boxing.
Floyd's never fought anyone with the styl;e or size of Hearns, that rolling the shoulder works great...against guys who are his height. Hearns would be hitting downward on Floyd meaning he'd have to evacuate through the majority of the fight and against Hearns you'd HAVE to fight (as Sugar Ray did).
