I think you need to rephrase the question What you're asking is did Margarito beat the count What I think people are answering in the poll is was he unable to continue. I think he beat the count, but the fight could have and should have been waved off there. so he was out. i know what u mean.. and im glad that the ref didnt stop the fight there... coz it might have caused some controversy... but i think im asking the right question... he was out or not? that was it...

yeah he was in wonderland. so we gon change the T to Tortured til can we please stop giving cotto props for this. marg walked through cotto. yea, but still you don't go through a war like that and come out unscaved. the cotto fight must have taken something outta him, not saying it took out alot but something. That was my only reason in believing that shane had way more of a shot at beating margarito than many gave him. But to the original question, yea margarito was out since the first knockdown. And in all honesty i think he was out of the fight in the first or second round when shane nailed him good and he appeared to get rocked by it.

He was done after that, the only reason the referee didn't stop the fight was probably because he heard the 10 second bell so he knew Margarito would get a chance to recover, I knew he wouldn't last the 9th though after seeing his face in the corner, and he may not have even remembered going back out there and getting knocked out by the way he was talking in the post fight interview.

If the round had continued he would have been stopped. This is easily evidenced by the fact that was unable to recover within the 1 minute break, and was stopped shortly after. That said, the round did end, and he survived it. So no, it should not have been stopped at that time, which would have only led to controversy. Perhaps his corner should have stopped it between rounds though, although it was against the fighter's wishes.
