This article from BBC Sport states that Mayweather announced during the build up to the Hatton fight that he was the greatest ever. Saying that Ali was great and so was Robinson, but he is the greatest of all time.
I saw this discussion taking place in another thread so I thought i'd find this article. I respect Mayweather for his skills, but he is not close to SRR or ALI in my opinion.
And maybe he is right in his analysis of Ali - with Ali's over reliance on the utilization of his leg and speed skill, and that when he got older so did his legs and a lot of his talent - but come on, Ali and SRR had a million times more heart than Mayweather. And they fought everyone, all challenges.
Not only that, they did it in a fashion such that they were willing to get into fights and possibly get hurt in order to win, they gave everything they had to boxing. Floyd, like I said I respect you as a great boxer, but you have not faced legendary challenges like Ali and SRR or even Sugar Ray Leonard did, and you damn sure do not fight like those immortals... Fighting Castillo, Diego, Oscar, and Hatton are good match ups and challenges for the most part, but not even worth mentioning next to the greatest of fighter resumes.
What do you guys think?
tito trinidad had 15 consecutive defense in ww division
if we count the world minor titles also, the very first man to win six world titles in at least six different categories was the legendary Thomas Hearns. Hearns won titles at 147, 154, 175, 160, 168 & 190 pounds. Hearns made an unusual move when he was the first ever former Welterweight champ to fight for the WBC Light Heavyweight (175)
Sour grapes till the end, this guy will never change, and that is why he'll never come back, every time he opens his mouth he alienates and distances himself from the boxing comunity that could help him,if the actual need to come back ever arises, sure you were good but great , no sirrrrr

The Ring's titles are all you need to pay attention to. I'm a firm believer that their champions are the only true championsHe beat the most weakest champ in WW history arguably.
Floyd is top 20 All time P4P.
floyd resume under 140 cannot be citised but the 140-154 side is bull, you don't fight 3 fights @ 140 and be the best at that weight, 4 fights @ 147 and be the best at that weight and 1 fight @154 and be the best at that weight.
I don't really want to get into the over analysis of those 8 fights but it's safe to say he didn't face a great deal of top competition in any of the three.
How would you grade Mayweather run at Welterweight?
A+ = Greatest ever.
A = 2nd Greatest ever
A-= Greatest of His era
B+= Great (ring champion) and he was undisputed
B= He Did what he had to do to be recognize champ of the ww ( ring belt)
B-= He was the man, but he could have done more.
C+= He beat the man, and that's it.
C= Average
C-= Good
D+= Paper Champ
D= Below Average
D-=Worst than Paper Champ
F= Worst Champion he could possibly be.
C+
your point?
and yet, you keep going on about Ricky Hattons welterweight trinket.

Doesn't have anything to do with Floyd retiring without defending against any welter does it?
Conveniently retiring before the Margarito Cotto bout to add.
Nah, it couldn't be that, because we all know Floyd has the record for most welterweight defenses.
Roy Jones Jr, greatest HW champ ever.
