Pac, interview with Filipino MMA promotion URCC:
"Do you have any plans on joining Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) events such as the URCC?
Well, I like that kind of fighting because it's harder than Boxing, but I'd rather learn all the techniques first before joining this sport. It's not that because I'm a boxer it means I know everything in the art of fighting you know."
A lot of people need to appreciate how hard takedowns and takedown defense is to learn. Penn has taken people down who have wrestled their entire lives, fighters who have trained specifically to avoid. He's a fighter who won a Judo blackbelt tournament after a few months of serious training, when he was still a BJJ white belt.
Haye spoke in a recent interview about practicing keeping a fight standing against MMA fighters, seeing if he could land a clean shot before he was taken down.
"Despite always starting on my feet with these guys, I was finding myself taken to the mat eight times out of 10. That gives me a two in 10 chance of landing a hard punch and knocking my MMA opponent out."
Why do people make these stupid fcuking threads?
In an MMA match Penn destroys Pac
In a Boxing match Pac destroys Penn.
You do not step into another man world and beat him.
Lewis Hamilton might have all the reflexs in eth world but if you put him on a Bike against valentino Rossi, Rossi would win, And visa versa in an F1 car.
Penn would have a harder time winning against Pac in an MMA match though, than Pac winning over Penn in a boxing match. Let Hamilton drive a Super Aguri and put Rossi in a Ferrari and see if Hamilton's reflexes wins him the race. :lol1:

Pulver indeed has a reputation as a boxer but he was also a collegiate wrestler if I recall correctly. No striking-based fighter succeeds in MMA without an expert sprawl, which comes from wrestling. Also keep in mind that was only Penn's FOURTH professional fight, and he was already fighting for the inaugural title.
The point was will Pacman land? And you said he'd land only 0-1 shots before Penn submits him, I say based on Penn's past fights Pacman can land more, and I said Pacman gets submitted once he's on the ground; I never said Pac will win on an MMA match. What I said was Pacman wins this in less than a minute if it was purely a boxing match.
Pulver is a stand-up fighter and Penn tried all his tricks to get him on the ground and ate some shots while doing it. If Pulver can land on Penn, I'm sure Pacman can.

I'm not sure what citing that fight is supposed to prove. Pacquiao certainly wouldn't be able to sprawl on Penn :ugh: Nor is Penn remotely the same fighter as he was at that time.

Not a bad example: no boxer is accustomed to avoiding blows coming from that angle. They would be just as effective and unsettling a tactic. A faster fighter might not be stopped by them, but as I noted they could be used to set up the takedown.
Penn vs. Pulver
In a boxing ring, MMA rules, three 12 minute rounds with MMA gloves.
Remember Manny used to be a kickboxer.
YAyyyyyyyyyyy............:banana::banana::banana:
Mercer is slow, bad example.

People tend to overlook a classic strategy vs. boxers in non-boxing events: use of the leg kick. Watch Ray Mercer in K-1, within minutes he became unable to move from the punishment his legs took. This could be used in the initial moments of a fight as a setup to get them focused on avoiding blows to the calf, allowing a crafty fighter to get an easy single-leg. For a fighter as good as Penn, I'd say 0-1 blows land (and if they do, at a bad angle as he would be low to the ground).

I can't imagine that Penn gets out of the match without getting hit, although, idk, I just really think Pacquiao would have trouble timing Penn, because he is not used to anything close to the movements Penn would use.
They are just two different games altogether.
That's why these threads are just silly. These guys are the best in the world at what they do. I don't know why people can't leave it at that... apparently they have to be the best in the world at what other people do as well. :nonono:
Who is your avatar by the way? I used to think it was Pacquiao, but... it looks less and less like him every time I see it.
That's why I said Pacman gets submitted if Penn gets him on the ground, but I doubt if Penn has tasted anything close to Pacman's power, and doubt even more Penn's ability to NOT be hit, MMA fighters with lesser boxing skills was able to land solidly on Penn.
How many head shots from Pacman do you think BJ Penn would receive before he can get Pacquiao on the ground? I think he gets at least two solid shots that would disorient him for a few seconds. Now, in that few seconds that Penn is disoriented, how many more shots do you think Pacman could land? and so on and so on... I don't think BJ Penn can get Pacquiao on the ground without getting hit solidly at least twice.

Don't believe everything you hear from Stewart, just because he's from Asia doesn't mean he knows Muai Thai.

Penn is a World Mundials BJJ champion (I believe the youngest in history, and in his rookie event). He isn't called the Prodigy for nothing. Even his boxing is very good by MMA standards, probably the best in the UFC. Penn by submission in the first.
