Joe Calzaghe wants one last fight at the Millennium Stadium, possibly against WBC super-middleweight champion Carl Froch.
Calzaghe said: 'I would love to fight again in Cardiff and to say goodbye properly.'

yeah, terrible journalism. Doesn't even say where the qoute came from, when Calzaghe was supposed to say it, where he was etc.
Just something invented or taken out of context, and no mention of Froch. Journalist just trying to stir trouble.
I would like to see Joe fight winner of Dawson and Tarver(if for some reason Tarver is good enough to beat Dawson then of course it would be justified). Otherwise, Joe should just tells us he is retiring..
calzaghe - manfredo 2, its on!!! manfredo has unfinished buisness as he knows he shouldnt have been stopped.
I'd be up for that, make it on neutal ground this time, no space for excuses.
you guys do know ross greenburg from hbo has promised calzaghe they would back ANY fight he makes should he fight again if he doesnt retire. if they showed calzaghe - manfredo you could sure as hell know they would show calzaghe - froch.
lol hbo just screwed itself over... hopefully they'll lowball him w/ the guaranteed purse so he has to fight dawson or rematch hopkins
Calzaghe doesn't mention Froch at all in the comment. This is another example of terrible journalism in the sport.
For all we know he could be planning to fight Dawson, Johnson, Taylor or Hopkins again. For all we know he might have meant "I'd love to put on a farewell fight for my fans, but...the money isn't out there with any opponent". This comment neither confirms or denies anything.
We still have no idea whether Calzaghe is going to retire or not, and if he is to fight once again, we have no idea who that'll be against.

ah hell yea that's on! fight of the year!

Yeah I did read your post, you said a Calzaghe vs Froch fight would attract casual fans from the U.S and it should be PPV. First off a Calzaghe vs Froch would not be PPV and HBO said they want Calzaghe fighting Dawson or Hopkins. And no, a Calzaghe vs Froch match would not attract casual fans from America. More casual fans from America know who Dawson is than Froch.
I didn't mention casual fans 'from the US', or PPV there. Nor did I say anything about an international audience. Quite the opposite, in fact, my whole point is that for a fight against Froch in the UK Calzaghe could make heaps of cash (and I mean heaps) even if the US was left out of the loop completely; indeed I think he might well like it that way. Far more than he would get fighting Dawson anywhere.
Don't get me wrong ; Dawson is the fight I'd really like to see as well. But if Joe really wants a farewell fight on his home patch that pleases his home fans AND is a big earner, Froch is actually an excellent choice... and I think we agree a far less risky one although, as I said, Froch isn't without chances IMHO.
FFS, try actually reading my post before spouting BS. It doesn't matter a shit who knows him outside the UK or whether HBO televise it or not. This would be a huge fight, moneywise on UK receipts alone. And Joe gets a big farewell in front of 80,000 or so (not one of those poxy Vegas crowds in an over-blown lounge bar) fighting someone who those watching HAVE heard of. Froch wouldn't be short of support, either.

If Calzaghe's plan is to attract an international audience and get backing from HBO he will have to fight Dawson. A fight vs Froch will be strictly a U.K thing.

Famous last words. Heard it all before on this forum, it never ends.
Beat Lacy and I wont say anything bad.
Beat Kessler and I wont say anything bad.
Beat Hopkins and I wont say anything bad.
My friend, you are correct :)
I catergorically denie ever making the above comments... :)

I understand where you are coming from. On all points.
I just want to see Froch get his cake hole shut.
Zags, and us US crowd, are like water and oil, it seems. And as much as I would love to see Dawson get a chance at Joe, no way it happens.
Final farewell of Joe beating the shit out of Froch? Sign me up.
lol no one knows who Froch is outside the U.K. It wouldn't make sense at all because Froch is a ****ing nobody. He's a C level boxer with limited skills, the only thing that he has going for him is his chin and power, but his skills are below average. You think HBO would televise a crappy ass Calzaghe vs Froch match, get real. Did the U.K know who Lacy was before he fought Calzaghe? No they didn't.

Folk keep saying one more young prime guy and I won't criticise, I just don't think the excuses will ever run out so in some senses he might aswell retire.
exactly. and you know what else isn't fair? they are saying( and I at one point was doing this too), fight a young prime fighter!! But really Joe shouldn't have to do that, because hes 37 himself. I know Joe is a great 37, but still, he shouldn't have to fight 25 year olds at this stage of his career.
****, i dont really care for CalSlappy but that would be a good way to end his career by fighting Froch who's been calling him out forever, It would do big #'s in the UK for sure
Nice post man. I think the US 24/7 mighta helped show a more normal, kinder side of Calzaghe than is often seen in the media. I've watched numerous video's of him and sussed his character and reasoning's for his confidence years ago. It's his mental strength from things like being ripped off not getting into the Olympics, landing some fights, injuries which makes him such a strong willed fighter. And he is a pretty sound geeza too all in all. I call double standards when people rant about show boating and being cocky, because it seems fine for most other fighters, in fact good.
It should be noted Calzaghes planned on retiring for awhile now and is going beyond what he'd intended especially age wise. He is tempted I think partially to try even harder to gain more respect from the US audience. He's been beating Americans for years and it's brought some more respect, but unfortunately also hate. If he fights again I'd prefer Dawson but I wouldn't kick of if he picked someone else relatively decent. Folk keep saying one more young prime guy and I won't criticise, I just don't think the excuses will ever run out so in some senses he might aswell retire.
Yeah Calzaghe *might* Froch, but it won't get the backing from HBO that's for sure. I mean whats the point of fighting in front of his homecrowd, if the opponent has a very good chance at beating Calzaghe. A farewall fight would probably be someone less risky.

But if he did fight Froch then it would be for the U.K obviously, fu.ck the U.S in that case, they don't know Froch.
One last fight, enjoying the crowd, the atmosphere, the anticipation of whats to come.
Calzaghe-Froch is a MUCH bigger fight over here than Calzaghe-Dawson.
For the benefit of American posters the most likely reason a Daily Mail journo would mention Froch is that he's actually heard of Froch, him being British and all. He probably is clueless as to who Hopkins is, let alone Dawson. But if Joe wants a big farewell in Cardiff it won't be against Chad Dawson.. not because Dawson doesn't deserve the fight but because nobody in Wales or England outside hardcare fans has even heard of him. Regretable, but that's just the way it is.
My money would actually be on BHop.. BUT, that said, a Froch fight at the Millennium Stadium would make a LOT of sense, if you widen your perspectives a little. For starters, in the UK it would be a HUGE fight.. perhaps the biggest ever domestic. It's a fight that would fill the stadium and get massive PPV here simply because it's one even the casual fans would really like to see and be willing to buy expensive tickets to do so. It's big enough, in fact, for Calzaghe to give his home fans what they would like, earn a large wad of cash AND turn around to America and American 'fans' and raise a finger or two... which is just the sort of thing he might do. Of course, a great many of us would piss ourselves laughing if Froch beat him.. which is not impossible by any means.

Thanks.
I use to not like Calzaghe. But I've recently gotten over it, I wouldn't call myself a fan. However I do like him as a person, he seems like a good guy after watching him on that 24/7 series. I do respect him as a fighter and believe he deserves allot of credit fof a great career. For the people that keep saying he needs to improve his legacy. I disagree, like I said earlier, look how many people in the boxing community from promoters to fans to writers are praising him. If he has as much respect as he does, he has nothing else to prove. I think a farewell fight would be great for his fans...
