I saw the fight between Berto and Collazo this past Sat on HBO and aside from bob papa's ill commentary I think the fight was a great show for Berto. Collazo is a tough customer and heis style and South paw Stance would give anyone trouble at 147. With that being said the question that was raised before fight night is Andre Berto ready for the elite of Welter Weight Div? Well I will answer it this way Berto has one of the Alphabet Belts his record is 24-0 with 19 KO's. He stepped uop in class with wins over Forbes and Collazo. many here thought Collazo would beat Berto. Me myself I was not a true believer but after seeing him hurt early and hang on to bang it out for the next 11 rounds I will say this. I think berto is deserving of mention with top WW's.
I think his next test will be one that will push him over the edge. At 24 he has the skill and and grit to get in there with top guys and win. One thing he needs to work on is stamina. i don't know if it was the body work of Collazo or just the lack of endurance but he looked very tired in rounds mainly round 10. I thought he could have really taken advantage of Collazo when he had his hands at his side but due to lack of energy or just not placing his shots correctly he was unable to rack up points the way he really should have if he had been a little bit fresher.
I thought he listened to his corner at times but needed to listen a little bit more. He mixing up his punches well and threw some body shots but when he saw they were working he should have put more work in. he got to Collazo's body in round 7 and 8 but after that he wasn't going down staris as much and allowed Collazo to regain his energy for rounds 10 and 11 but when it counted Berto stepped up his game or as he put it showed him his beast. He took round 12 and pulled out a close victory on the cards.
A case could be made for Collazo to have gotten the W but when the fight is as close as this was you can't complain about a 114-113 score card. The 116-111 was ludacris but I saw it much the same way 114-113 for Berto. The old saying is you have to beat the champion to be the champion. Collazo out worked him but the harder cleaner blows were defintely landed by Berto.
In closing I would state this as I titled it in the thread. I wouldn't mind seeing Berto take on a Kermit Cintron in his next fight. I know Cintron is still ranked pretty high on the alphabets charts and if Cintron wins his next fight I think a match between these two would be good for Berto Cintron and the public. It seems to me Berto will get in the ring with just about anybody and I commend him for that. I also commend him for his class and style in the post fight interview. he knew it was a close fight and he was happy to get the win. he gave Collazo his due credit and tol dhim he would defintely give him a rematch. he said that the fans want to see fight like this one and seeing young get in the ring and fight is what they want then he was ready to give it to them. he even said he is a fan before a boxer. He just got another fan added to his fan base.
Berto needs new trainers and commitment to the basics like keeping his guard up and defense to start with.
I sent my blog and thread to Berto on Myspace he said he appreciated the talk and i don't think he would mind the fight either....Lefty
Saying Clottey stops Berto might be a bit much. However, Clottey does put Berto on his ass 2 or 3 times and wins 8 rounds to 4.
I am saying I want to see these two fight each other Berto step up in class against Cintron and Cintron get another shot at a Welter Weight Belt....Lefty
You guys are nuts, first Clottey stops him and now Cintron, give me a break.

Cintron would lay him out.
Cintron would shatter Berto's glass chin into a thousand pieces. They both like fighting on the outside and with Kermit's height, reach and one punch knockout power Berto would be at a serious disadvantage.

Collazo has one hell of a chin he showed that in most of his fights, Berto landed some sick uppercuts on him, Cintron would get picked apart if Berto does stick to his gameplan and boxes him. Berto by late stoppage or a clear UD.
I am a fan but I am not biased,
I think its a fight that should happen and i think its a fight Berto wins, He can out speed and outbox Cintron he just gotta keep away from Kermits big right hand
My thoughts exactly if he beats Cintron he in my eyes has two very crediable wins over Collazo and Cintron and lines himself up for a nice unifacation bout with a Cotto or Margarito of the world....Lefty

This has some truth but we will never know what Berto can truly do if he don't step up. Fighting Collazo would be a huge mistake. Like Lennox Lewis said he got past him and he should just move on Collazo is a tough guy South paw and is all wrong for many fighters....Lefty
You're preaching to the choir.... I've wanted DiBella to quit pussyfooting around with Berto 4 fights ago. I just don't think Berto will ever be able to defeat the elites. The only reason I say Berto-Collazo II is to give his career a little longevity. Other than that, Cintron is a big risk! Clottey, Williams, Margarito, Cotto.... maybe even Mosley, would be comitting suicide for Berto.
Berto-Cintron sounds good. Cintron might be able to stop him.
That is what make me wanna watch it. Cintron might be able to stop him and Berto can out box him. It would be a great fight....Lefty
Putting Berto in with Cintron would be a mistake right now. Cintron is, in my opinion, a weak top-level fighter. But Berto is BY FAR the weakest link at the top. Berto should fight Collazo again and IF he wins more convincingly the second time, he'll be ready for Cintron. But just like Cintron, I don't know if Berto will ever be ready for Williams, Cotto, or Margarito.

Cintron is still way too green. Berto destroys Cintron the cry baby with his speed, power, and pressure. Cintron already showed that when the going gets tough he doesn't.

Yes Cintron failed against margarito and didn't have half the boxing skills Cotto has to rely on. Berto gets hit alot and Cintron has some awesome power. I think it would be very entertaining of a fight....Lefty
I think it'd be a good step up. Cintron hits hard but he doesn't seem to be a naturally tough guy. I don't think he'll be thrilled to grind it out for 12 rounds with Berto. And Berto goes to the body as well. I think the fight could go either way but I'd favor Berto who I believe has more heart.
I see it much this way too my friend it appears great minds think alike. Berto has much more boxing skill the Cintron who relys more on his power. Berto to me looks like he takes a pretty good punch. I thin he would go to the body move around the out side and break Cintron down over 8 or 9 rounds. To me I see a UD Berto but a great fight and a good test. Cintron going up to 154 because he cannot get a title shot anywhere else at 147 with all the other big names set to fight each other in 2009....Lefty
