First off i havent seen the fight but it sounds like Collazo might have caught a raw deal! So with that is there any adjustments Berto can make to win or win clearer next time he faces Collazo? Will he have learned from this fight? I hope so he's an exciteing fighter id like him to make it beyond the Luis Collazo type level
I think Berto should work on boxing on the move. He is one of the most explosive fighters in the game, but most of his actions occur flatfooted. Also as the great Max Kellerman stated he falls into the same traps as the great Meldric Taylor once did by taking unecessary blows. I think his chin is pretty good the way he stood up to Calozzo's pop, when he stumbled in the 1st I think he was caught of balence.
The only thing he needs to do is BOX and fight his game, I think getting Mayweather Sr in his corner would also help a lot with improving his D,
he needs to be taught how to fight inside without holding. then he'd be a more complete fighter
Berto needs to condition himself more
He has great stamina but he just needs to "protect" his body more, that's the main reason on why he looked tired last night, Collazo threw a lot of powerful body shots and all landed.
I'll have to go back and watch it, that was the kid he caught with that sick uppercut right? His name escapes me at the moment, but I can see the uppercut that dropped him landing, beads of sweat and all flying off his face, lol.

That wasn't a conditioning problem, that was Louie tearing his body up on the inside consistently.
I agree, but still I think there is more conditioning that Berto needs to do. He came in unofficially at 160, that maybe is too much of a bounce for him, he should not be coming in more than 10 pounds over the weigh in.
Also, though he did get caught with alot of body shots, what lead to this? Why was Berto not using his legs to stay on the outside of Luis and pump out his jab? I believe he did this for a second in the early rounds after his corner told him to do so, but he could not do it consistently, and that is why Luis got to that body.
In any event, Berto's legs looked very unstable by the 7th and 8th rounds, he has to work on moving around the ring, not slugging it out, and effectively utilizing his jab. He has been advised of this before, however he has not adjusted yet. No doubt he can mix it up inside, but against a harder and more dangerous fighter like Cotto, Margo, Clottey, or maybe even Shane, I believe that Berto would be eaten up.
Improve that outside game and jab Berto and also don't get lazy on the inside, jab your way in, through a 3-4 punch combination, and get out. This will serve you more than going in and brawling, then trying to conserve your energy by holding your opponents. This not only could, and in this instance did, cause you a point for holding, but also expose your body and chin to some shots that will slow you up later in the fight!

Ya, that's true, Berto has excellent stamina and he could go 12 rounds easy but the body shots took their toll on him. They were hard shots and you could tell after each body shot that he really felt them.
In a way im glad Berto got to be in a real "fight" and hopefully he can learn from this.
>>There ain't nothing wrong with being on Louie's level. He's a humble guy and a good fighter who's had some tough breaks.<<
Absolutely..I became a fan of his last night. He really hung it out there last night..they both did.
He's pefect for Berto i think! Good idea but hey i dont want him gettin TOO good and beating my guy Cotto!
Why was he sluggin it out a bit too much?
Collazo would often throw his left and move in so they would be in a clinch and Collazo was landing a lot of shots in the clinch so Berto would throw back in "desperation" and they exchanged and Collazo got the better of him most of the time there. When Berto kept the distance he fought better and landed some clean shots on Luis.
With a great guy like Mayweather Sr in his corner, I doubt anyone could stop him.

Yeah I agree. He isn't bad inside, especially that's the time he can unleash that vicious uppercut of his. But against Collazo he got into trouble by fighting in close too much instead of boxing on the outside where he was doing extremely well. I wish he would stick to that quick jab of his a lot more.
