If Roy Jones Never left 168?
What if RJJ Stayed at 168 and just smashed joe in his prime, imo joe should thank roy for giving him a shot at his boxing career
You can't say A prime roy at 168 would get cut and beat up like he did in the calz fight?
its crazy man
thanx for reading my rant
No... I've heard that argument, and have seen that shot from both angles recorded. He was going down despite the left arm tangle with Hopkins. And I agree, that was more a technical shot from Hop than one with some serious mustard on it (but that is the point - it wasn't even that hard). He still tasted canvas.
was actually more talking about the Jones one
the Hopkins KD would have definitely been more worrying for a Calzaghe supporter (although personally i was rooting for the Executioner that time)
he was put on the floor and it didn't phase him
he got caught cold, it happens... the put down was more to do with pushing him over than dazing him and putting him in trouble

Punch resistance fading to the degree he gets put down with not much effort? All this time we heard Kessler was the hardest hitter Joe faced, but he couldn't do what Roy or to a lesser extent what Hopkins did with just as clear paths to the target. Joe adapts, I'll give him that, but what does that adaptation look like if the guy in front of you is faster and hits like a mule? People love to bash Roy for his lack of fundamentals but I see Cal getting by on his agility for defense much like Roy used to. I'd give Roy a better chance to survive Calzaghe's "power" prime 4 prime than the other way around. At least with Roy you can make the argument his chin didn't fall the **** off until his weight fluctuation debacle.

Calzaghe laying on the floor might be the ultmate conclusion in a prime for prime fight, but it wouldn't be as simple as that
you're overlooking the facts that Calzaghe's formally very respectable power has almost completely diminished and that his punch resistance is fading as he ages
i feel Calzaghe would be caught cleanly too often to win a fight with RJJ prime4prime but he would give him hell up until the point where he finally hit the canvas

Tip Tap Cal gets his head split like a coconut prime 4 prime. No way he keeps up with a Jones that can put him down that easy and has more than the speed to match.

That would be impressive if Roy wasn't a beat drum. It's worse in a way because he couldn't do anything worse than cut Roy, when Joe fans love to point and prod how inferior Tarver and Johnson are, but one clean clocked Roy and the other nearly killed him in their bouts. Jones showed during the Joe fight he no longer had it. Admitted in his corner he wasn't even fast enough to get to Calzaghe. Tip Tap Cal gets his head split like a coconut prime 4 prime. Thats not what i'm saying and you know it, but substitute his LHW run and his HW win with the Calzaghe's resume and would you say he would be talked about as P4P?
Unless you are a total hypocrite of course you wouldn't.
he become a 2 weight undefeated champ who has very few names on his resume same as Calzaghe.
frankly i don't regard his resume as too much better than Calzaghe's as things stand.
it's the difference in prime-for-prime abilities that puts Jones high above Calzaghe in all-time rankings
yeah, without his overrated win over Ruiz Jones' resume falls apartThats not what i'm saying and you know it, but substitute his LHW run and his HW win with the Calzaghe's resume and would you say he would be talked about as P4P?

The question is would we be talking about Jones? I mean everyone agrees SMW was weak, he would have had the same problem come 2009 Calzaghe does, not enough world class names on his resume, simply because there isn't any world class SMW.
It's not like Hopkins was any more likely to fight RJJ than he was Calzaghe.
RJJ staying at SMW = not the legend and P4P All time top 50 fighter.
and yes I rank him higher than 50 take it as a number that signify's he's an ATG not a placement within that 50.

Calzaghe is a very good fighter in his own right... he would get the respect he deserves one way or another even if he was to be dethroned at SMW by a prime Jones
for the record, i have Jones beating Calzaghe prime for prime, but Calzaghe putting up a great and exciting fight before maybe being KO'd/TKO'd later on
1. im bored as helllll
and he's not that great of a champion to begin, so if RJJ stayed at 168 calz would of been #2 or #3 in that divison
if hes not great why the **** is he in the middle of your sig? :dunno:
why even bother making this thread...it wont prove a thing..your not gonna make joe fans agree with you..let them enjoy their calzaghe wonderland
