Wladimir Klitschko will eventually get the respect he deserves if he keeps winning. It was the same way for Lennox Lewis, who had the big knockout loss to Oliver McCall, and was a European so North American media wanted to say this and that about his. Haha, I remember Ring Magazine's cover headline before his fight with Michael Grant "Lewis will quit or will get knocked out".
People will drone on and on about how bad the heavyweight division is for a long time, and then eventually realize that we have a pretty good heavyweight champion. There is a 6'5" European winning all his fights and holding some of the heavyweight belts. He is a former olympic gold medallist and is said to have a suspect chin, but a really big straight right hand. Trained by Emmanuel Steward. Does this sound familiar to anybody?
It just takes time to win people over. The problem is right now every Klitschko victory, the first thing that is going to come up is how bad his opponent was and how bad the heavyweight division is.

Good post.
Wladimir deserves far more credit and respect than what people give him right now.
He will earn my respect if he fights and wins convincingly against Haye and Dimitrenko. I don't think Arreola will cause him any problems and neither will Povetkin.
Lewis was cautious up to a point, but there was times when he showed he could brawl too. Wladimir Klitschko is just not exciting at all. Lewis always had a bit of a 'devil' in him. Most champions usually do. But Klitschko seems to lack any fire in his belly at all, which is quite rare I think.

He'll get my respect if he wins convincingly against Povetkin, Haye and Arreola.....if/when that happens, he'll be my favorite heavywaeight of this generation.......

he needs to fight on a more regular basis
That's true, Tua was pretty dangerous. Whatever the hell happened to that guy? If he kept training hard he definately would have been holding at least some sort of title belt by now. He was a really interesting character too.
He was damn good but now? He's just a lazy fat plodder! Imagine he had beat Lewis that woulda set the stage for Tua vs Tyson man how good would that fight have been!
First off im not big on Lewis, and i hated the Tua fight but in Tua he had THE hardest one shot puncher in the division in front of him, not Sultan Ibragimov.
I hear u tho, people epreciate u more when ur gone

Once again, I can draw on Lennox Lewis comparisons. Particularly after his fight with Tua, but in some other fights as well. A lot of people said he should have taken Holyfield out in their first fight. Eventually people will realize that the guy needs to get credit for winning.

They did the same thing with Lewis, so it normally takes for a great fighter to retire for a while in order for him to get the respect he deserves. What Wladimir lacks though is the opposition that Lewis had, so that could cost him as far as being match against other great heavyweight, but he will be considered great if he keeps being dominant.
I already respect his skills but he just dements me with his negative style! Just let ur F*CKIN hands go u giant fairy!!! And not just the jab.
Thing with Wlad is i think people (i know i do) actually WANT to like him, he just needs a bit more devil in him

yeah, I immediately regretted bringing race into the discussion right after I posted that actually, so I apologize to everyone. I just have a feeling he might be perceived differently if he looked like the rest of America's top athletes. Once again, I don't really want to steer the discussion in that direction so I apologize.
No need to apologies ur probably right - there is alot of idiots out there
hey man..boxing is boxing..color and race are only brought up by idiots..i dont care about, race, nation,or creed..just bring skills and balls to the table and im a fan
AMEN! I dont care where ur from or what ur ethnic background is i like ur style and u show some guts im a fan!

they are haters..the man only fights mandatorys and top 10 competition..what more do people want from the guy????
They mostly want better opponents, but the opponents aren't as bad as most people think.
if he hasnt gotten respect by now...fukk em...6 title defenses ,3 belts....unifying the division..haters gone hate so let them hate
Absolutly right 100%.
