I was on the Ring's site and it says Pavlik's people have contacted Freddie Roach about training Pavlik. I didn't hear about this anywhere else, and I thought it would be news that he might dump Leow.

It sucks for Loew but Kelly really needs a trainer who can teach him more, bring him along farther. Loew just isnt a world class boxing coach, and at this point Kelly needs that. Kelly has power, heart, durability etc. but his skills just arent where they could be.
A good trainer could have, WOULD HAVE, prepared Kelly much more against an opponent like Bernard Hopkins!! It was like Kelly was fighting for the first time, Bernard made Pavlik look like a fool he had no idea what to do in there and was so confused.
Now I agree that Hopkins would always beat Pavlik no matter who the trainer is, but I believe a good trainer would have trained kelly so that he expects lateral movement, etc. The fight could have been at least semi-competitive. I think loew had kelly train business as usual and focus on the KO i.e looking good in front of the cameras.
Lets not forget the history of this fight. Pavlik's camp did not really want the Hopkins fight, it was pretty much that or nothing and Pavlik was disadvantaged to the max against Hopkins at 170. It was a truly dumb move on Arum's part to match a guy like Pavlik who had some serious career momentum against a the one guy who could really derail him without upside. The only payoff would have been a segway for Kelly to 175 and maybe a fight with Calzaghe but that is a stretch. I was also surprised at how good Hopkins stamina, punch out and handspeed was at 170. I think he should truly try to take out Kessler at 168. Does anyone doubt Hopkins would seriously fack up Abraham in a similiar fashion?
I hadn't heard about this before either. I think it'd be a mistake. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Jack gets too much flak about the Hopkins ownage. No trainer coulda helped Kelly win that fight. They had nothin but success together before that.
I dont think Pavlik has the instincts of a defensive fighter. He will never be that good defensively so i would keep his boxer/puncher type of style and tweek a little bit here and there.
probably Roach or Nacho.
Who are the big names Roach is training now? Pacquiao, Khan, Andre Arlovski (mma). Is there another guy Roach is working with at the moment?

Yeah he lost to Hopkins cuz he didnt throw DOUBLE JAB.
Lowe sucks.Pavlik fought taxi drivers, and man nurses to 34-0!
I am by no way saying Lowe is the greatest trainer in the world etc...but doubling up on your jab can shorten the distance and throw off the other guys timing especially when the other guy (Hopkins) is waiting for you to throw you one half ass jab and counter you over that with the straight right hand!!! So yes the advice Lowe was giving him was correct may have not been the onyl adive he should have been giving him but it was for starters correct. pavlik never doubled up his jab so Lowe kept repeating himself all night. I can;t tell you to go on to the second step when you cant complete the first right? He may have been able to tell him something else but seeing how Kelly looked that night I think there might have been something wrong with him or maybe he was just really surprised by Hopkins hand speed and style.....Lefty

I guess beating the hard hitting Edison Miranda and JT two times was nothing of an accomplishment my man.....Pavlik is The Real Thing he went up in weight and fought Hopkins. Hopkins is no joke ask anybody around his style is very difficult to deal with. Plus his ring smart are like 100000000000 to Kelly 1.....Lefty
i think roach would be good for him if roach has time. if he sticks with him and not a one fight deal it would pay off.
i really like roach too but it sucks that we all know he can't be training on up in his golden years because of the parkinsons.he could possibly have been the best.
Pavlik trainer sucks.Only thing he always says DOUBLE JAB DOUBLE JAB DOUBLE JAB.KELLY you arent throwing DOUBLE JAB.DOUBLE JAB.DOUBLE JAB!!
He needs Roach!
He went what 34-0 with Lowe and he lost to a craft verteran who has been in there with top fighters in every weight class from Middle weight to Light Heavy Weight.....Lefty
Freddie Roach is my favourite trainer right now. He see's things in fighters very well indeed. Loew does not impress me, and couldn't offer Kelly any decent advice against Hopkins, infact what he said and didn't, left me feeling he's an awful trainer.
Roach would do a lot for Kelly's all round game, and if Pavlik's learnt from his recent schooling I'd put him over AA. But if he sticks with Loew and hasn't learnt much, I favour AA.
Down to him really. I see it as bit of a Khan situation against for Roach. A young promising fighter has been exposed, and with questionnable trainers their looking to Freddie, and right to.

Wow... I really like Lowe. But I think Roach is the best in the business. Are we sure Roach has enough time in his schedule for Pavlik.
This would be a good move, Roach is a man who could teach Pavlik more than Loew could. Maybe take away that one dimensional style and employ more movement and boxing ability in the young Pavlik. Plus, I hear Hopkins is helping Pavlik too.
Pavlik needs to change his style a bit he can be an easy target to hit and Roach could be the guy to help tighten his defense up and take him to the next level.
