Antonio Margarito is 5'11 fights at 147 pounds.
Vs Cotto he probably weighed 160
Vs Cintron 160
Vs Williams 157
Ok so if he fought at middleweight he would easily make the weight limit and probably wouldnt gain more than 2 pounds.
Now lets look at some current and past middleweights.
Kelly Pavlik 6'2 -Middleweight Champion
Vs Lockett he rehydrated in at 170
Vs Miranda he rehydrated in at 171
Vs Taylor I he rehydrated in at 168
Marco Antonio Rubio who will be challenging Pavlik for his title in his last fight rehydrated in at 175 pounds vs Enrique Ornelas who also came in fight night at 175 pounds.
Jermain Taylor rehydrated in at 171 against Bernard Hopkins who came in at 168 in the first fight at middleweight. Jermain Taylor against Raul Marquez comes in at 169 while Raul Marquez weighed 170 fight night.
Winky Wright came in at 168 when he fought Felix Trinidad who came in at 169. Trinidad in his fight with Mayorga came in at 168 pounds. Winky Wright came in at 171 against Sam Soliman.
--------------------------------
So as you all can see if Margarito was a middleweight, on fight night he would weigh around 160-162 pounds tops. Now take his fight night weight and he will be fighting or would have fought the best middleweights who would have been weighing anywhere from 168-175 pounds.
SO he would be a middleweight fighting super middleweights and light heavyweights.
Is this fair for Margarito? No it is not.

Is this fair for Margarito? No it is not. Is it fair that hes doing it to small welterweights himself? Imo he should atleast move up to 154.
And more emphasis on defense when on the ropes would help ALOT
he's not even suppose to be on the ropes.
he had great d in the fight.
he made marg miss a lot and a lot margs blows in the early rounds was glancing blows.
he just let marg keep coming forward too much.
he needed to mix it up more. go forward and popshot and move to the side sometimes.
he needs to clinch everytime he gets trapped in the corner too. it'll make for a more boring fight but that's the only way he wins.
Well some do, but most don’t
i'm watching cotto-marg right now on hbo on demand.
great fight.
cotto backed up too much. if he goes forward more and learns to clinch i think he'll win the rematch.
I have watched that fight but I use to not pay attention to fight night weigh in until Mayweather debates
plus youtube highlights clips don't usually show the tale of the tape.
The rest of us are not as surprised as you.
Wanna know why?
Because we have actually seen that fight, whereas you just looked it up on boxrec.
haven't i tried to explain to him before how putting on about 10% more weight is normal in boxing?
To be honest i dont want Margarito to fight Mayweather any more. And i do not want to see him fight Pacquiao.
Miguel Cotto and Paul Williams is what i want to see next.
Something interesting i found, Many people say Margarito is way too big picking on the smaller cotto. Well check this out
I did research and i noticed many of Cotto's latest fights he did not weigh in on the tvs scales.
This is what i was able to find.

Cotto nearly came into that welterweight fight as a middleweight. In the first fight with Margarito i dont believe there was a fight night weigh in for HBO. So Margarito wouldnt have more than a 3 pound weight advantage assuming Margarito came in fight night at 160 and Cotto came in at 157
To answer your question, some people just can't stand to see a slow, plodding, wide looping punch throwing caveman with no defense be one of the best welters of his era.
Antonio Margarito is a welterweight, it is where he fights best and until he can't make the weight anymore I want to see him continue to fight there. The only fights I want to see him in are Williams, Martinez and Angulo @ 154. Thats it.
Why you gotta bring up Mayweather Private Mangler?
I mentioned that cuz that was always the source of all the Pwill nuthuggin/Marg hate that clouded the forum for so long. All that talk about Marg bein scared to move up and afraid of bigger fighters was just comin from PBF dickriders livin thru Pwill. Wit that reference, I was pretty much sayin don't get the haters started again, now that they're otherwise occupied.
We shouldn't even be talkin bout this stupid shit anymore. PBF's name is a hot topic again, so for the most part all the Marg hate threads about him bein too big for WW, and similar Pwill threads made in response to em have disappeared. PBF nuthuggers have other shit to whine about now.
