Not even slightly. How does a one division champion compare to a 5-division champion???
Calzaghe is what he is, and that's the greatest supper-middleweight of all time. He chose that location and stayed there for a decade and that's what he is gonna be recognized for.
Had he took the risk and moved up to light-heavyweight sooner and persued fights with the best, then we would have something to talk about.
RJJ at one point was a middleweight and he managed to move up to heavyweight and Joe moves up to light-heavy only two fights before his retirement to face two old names in Hopkins and RJJ, getting knocked down in each fight.
... Forgetting that Hopkins backed out of a fight in 2002 ...
I'm done here.
Later fellas.

LOL dont carry this on. flawlass and clegg have had this discussion many times before and flawed still doesnt agree
Ah, whatever man, shit goes round in circles on here. It was a great fight. Most fighters would have crumbled under Eubank's fists. The thing that got Calzaghe through it was sheer will power. After that, Calzaghe had to be carried to the bathroom to piss for while! It was seriously tough work.
Merry christmas, you hateful ****s! :D

Just the fact that you listed Lacy over Judah shows what a joke this thread is and how little knowledge you have.
Judah - a 2-divison champion, a UNDISPUTED welterweight champion at one point >>>> Lacy a IBF title holder, a title he won because it was vacant.
Learn the sport mutants.
That is exactly my point:lol1:
Good! You made your post look sarcastic because of the smily you put at the end! If I misunderstood it slightly, I apologize. ;)

The point is that he was not at his best at SMW. He did enter a 2 week weight draining regime to make weight. As he was getting older it was harder to make weight. Imagine having to lose a extra 7 pounds to make weight, that would take a heavy toll on the body. He also took the fight at short notice, Calzaghe did too but he was planning to fight at 168 already
Oh man... why am I even bothering.
Look. Eubank-Calzaghe was a brilliant fight. It wasn't a one-sided beating on an old man who was weak, it was a ****ing war in which Eubank gave Calzaghe his hardest fight to date.
I loved that fight. I watched it live in 1997 and I have watched it maybe 10 times since then. Why are you whining about it?

Emanual Steward appreciates his skill. He always talks about how special of a fighter Joe is. Maybe people should listen to him:thinking:
And why not. He's trained some good fighters, no, GREAT fighters, and he obviously sees something he likes. He has heaps of praise for Calzaghe, and who am I to argue? Just a mere fight fan who doesn't know one tenth as much as Steward does. He's forgotten more about boxing than I'll ever learn.

Bruno Ruben Godoy
Jose Ignacio Barruetabena
2 fights at LHW then fought Collins at SMW and lost
Luis Dionisio Barrera
Camilo Alarcon
2 fights at LHW then fought Calzaghe at SMW and lost
What is your point here?
The fight with Collins was an extremely close SD. Could have gone either way.
The fight with Barruetabena, he only weighed 171.
Once again, you are dramatizing small details to try and make Calzaghe look worse than he is. Just stop, bro, it's ain't working.
Consider what Pacquiao has done this year alone in terms of weight.

I completely agree with you about the Calzaghe hate but some of his trolling fans like the thread starter are a bit much.
And unfortunately some people give other fans a really bad rap. I'm a Calzaghe fan, I enjoy watching him fight, and despite what people say, the guy has a lot of skills. He didn't show it in the Hopkins fight, but a whole career of 46 fights should not be based on one bad performance. We are all human, not robots. We are allowed a few mistakes. There are Calzaghe fights where he put on an absolute masterclass. Fights which were brutal wars. Fights that were a bit boring, and fights that were exciting to watch. I've seen almost all of them. However, we must remain critical. It's not healthy to pour excessive amounts of praise on Joe or any fighter because they ALL have flaws. And so do their fans!

Bernard Hopkins > Jose Luis Castillo
Mikkel Kessler > Ricky Hatton
Roy Jones Jr > Oscar De La Hoya
Chris Eubank > Diego Corrales
Jeff Lacy > Zab Judah
True
False
False
False
False
(best you can say about the falses is maybe some of them are roughly equal)
But you didnt even pick Floyd's top 5 opponents, and then you fail to mention that Floyd's resume is much deeper in second tier opponents than Calzaghe's.
Nice try though :fing26:
Luis Dionisio Barrera
Camilo Alarcon
2 fights before Calzaghe
Calzaghe was preparing for a fight at 168 not 175 like Eubank was
OK, I'll give you that, I forgot about the LD Barrera fight, but those fights were what, 6 months apart?
You speak as though he was jumping into a different weight class every month!
Once again, it all balances out when you consider, age experience, and everything else.

Peopel need to realise that Eubank was weight drained for the Cakzaghe fight. His last 2 fights were at 175 and was preparing WBC intercontinental light-heavyweight title, with a view to a world title shot at that weight. Eubank accepted a title fight at short notice entered a two week weight draining regimen and was last fight at SMW and went straight to CW after it.
:lol1:
No, Eubank had only one fight at 175, not two, before fighting Calzaghe. He never made any excuses about weight either. The first cruiserweight fight against Thompson (the same Carl Thompson who knocked out David Haye, for those who don't know) was a whole 6 months after the Calzaghe fight. It is NOT a dramatic amount of weight difference considering the time span. "Went straight to cruiser"? That's bullshit, my friend.
The fight with Camilo Alarcon (the one before Calzaghe) was 7 months before Calzaghe. Trust me, Eubank didn't have to strain his body to fight Calzaghe, despite having to drop down a little further in weight than at first expected when he was preparing for a fight at light heavy. This also balances out. Don't forget, Calzaghe was also preparing to fight a completely different fight, plus he was young, had little pro experience, and still came out of that fight with wide UD. It was a brilliant win for a guy of his age and experience. Discredit that, and you look like a fool. Eubank was an amazing fighter, right until he retired.
Again, I have never seen any complaints from Eubank. On the contrary, he has always given Calzaghe huge amounts of respect and never said a bad word about him or their fight.
Please argue with facts, people. That's the problem around here, people often dramatize or make stuff up, and much of the time people simply regurgitate crap they read from some other guy on a forum. Their hatred towards Calzaghe is often born of ignorance.
Now watch... I'll get accused of being a "nuthugger" by some ignorant troll, simply because I happen to know a few facts. One thing I know for sure, is that there are many people who have no idea what they are talking about when they speak of Calzaghe. Any little thing, they grab hold of it and blow it completely out of proportion, exaggerating minor details to try and make things seem much worse than they really are. The fact is, Joe Calzaghe is a very good fighter. You may not enjoy his style, and that's your choice, but the guy sure knows how to win and does not deserve the insane amount of disrespect he gets on here. Joe Calzaghe has achieved far more in the last few years than 99% of us on the entire forum could ever hope to achieve in our entire lifetimes, and the general hate towards fighters on this forum is pure gutter-level stuff.

The same can be said for Mayweather vs Castillo.
not at all. if you actually watch and score that fight, Mayweather clearly wins 5 of the first 6 rounds. there's no way Castillo swept the last 6
I hate Calzaghe and Hopkins equally, but Calzaghe won that fight simply because Hopkins got tired. There is no way any of you can honestly tell me you scored 6 rounds for Hopkins.
You guys saying fighters are robbing other fighters? Bull. It's the judges you should have beef with, not the fighters. JC did not rob BH, 2 of the 3 judges scored it for Calzaghe, and one had it for Hopkins. Just like the public -- probably 2 out of 3 people would say JC won the fight.

Mayweather robbed J.L.Castillo.
Mikkel Kessler KOd Markus Bayer in 2.Markus Bayer is great fighter.
Ricky is Euro robot.
Hopkins is now in his prime not 10 years ago.He woped Pavlik ass.
Mayweather is like Pavlik way overrated, accept Pavlik fought real fighter and got smashed, and didnt still a fight like Mayweather robbed Castillo.
Hopkins is NOT IN HIS PRIME.
