you asked how he kept his p4p ranking even though he only fought 4 fights in 4 years before hatton.
in 2001 he fought judah. judah was #1 at 140 at the time.
in 2002 he fought tackie. tackie was ranked in the top 5 at 140.
in 2003 he fought leija. leija was ranked in the top 10 at 140.
in 2004 he fought mitchell. mitchell was #1 at 140 at the time.
kostya might have not fought a lot but he fought top ranked opponents even for tuneups.
I see what your sellin but im not buyin. Just diff opinion. Hatton aint special
I do not think Hatton is technically as gifted boxer as Calzaghe but atleast Hatton is willing to fight the best out their unlike Calzaghe who has dodged alot of fighters at their peak. The thing that annoys me with Calzaghe is i believe he has/had the ability to beat alot of the big name fighters out there but he stayed in wales fighting bums for 8/9 years, big shame. Hatton made the move to the USA and took on what there was not always looking good but he still churned out the wins. If you think about it Hatton took these risks now he has every fighter within the weight divisions around him wanting a crack at him, he's made loads more money then Calzaghe, much bigger fan base. Their is only one winner here.
The way Calzaghe protected himself along with Warren "defending" his WBO Belt is a disgrace.
Calzaghe is the better boxer, but he wasted his talent.
Hatton was had his fair share of over-hyped bouts, but he went Prime v Prime against Mayweather. A World Class opponent.
Something Calzaghe has never done,
and thats fine. But my facts dont change.

kosta fought 5 fights in 5 years at that time. Judah, Tackie, Mitchell, Leija, then hatton. How does that earn top p4p?? right it doesnt. extremely inactive and was 36 in fight against hatton, im hardly impressed. also hatton only success comes at 140 against not the greatest competition. 2 times he moves up he got KTFO. and lucky to get a decision against luis collazo. So no not impressed.
kostya has been on top 10 p4p list since '95 or '96.
in 2004.....kostya was #3 p4p by ring magazine.

That's ok.
Really? Hatton fought Kosta when he was a top p4p fighter and Mayweather when he was the consensus #1 p4p fighter. You're not impressed by that?

Sven Ottke hasn't even got an impressive number of wins.
Joe is 46-0, with the possibility of increasing that number.
Ottke is 34-0, and is highly unlikely to ever fight again.
Not very impressive for Ottke. If we can get into small details, though (which the casual fan won't), Ottke has almost 50 losses as an amateur. Calzaghe, on the other hand, won 3 ABA titles in 3 different weights for 3 years straight. Beating Calzaghe, even as an amateur was a BIG DEAL, just as it is now. The difference between Calzaghe and Ottke is staggering.
But anyway...
robin reid
byron mitchell
charles brewer
tocker pudwill
david starie
rick thornberry
those are the six fighters that they both fought , there might be others but i don't know.
reid , mitchell and brewer were some of joe's biggest wins.
obviously sven retired before he fought kessler or lacy but he fought thomas tate , glen johnson , mads larsen , anthony mundine , silvio branco who joe didn't.
aside from beating hopkins and jones......one could argue sven's resume was better than joe's.
and who's to say a prime ottke couldn't outpoint a 43 yr. old hopkins and 40 yr. old jones.
LOL. Poor old Lloyd. He's a huge Calzaghe fan, btw.
You should see him on Sky Sports. He is always wearing his fluffy hat and coat. No one dares say anything because he is a former boxer and no doubt can still throw a punch, but when he is gone, they must have a good giggle.
I'm sure he is a nice guy at heart, but Jesus, the outfits.........check it out here:

I am in fact not a calzaghe hater. just because I speak the truth I become a hater all of a sudden? I see myself as more of a realist than anything.
My bad. I could have sworn I've seen you make disrespectful posts.

To you, maybe it is, you're a Calzaghe hater, but the casual fan won't know shit about any of that stuff.

Now.
If you're a kid and you go ask your grandfather, he'll know. Your daddy might too but young fans wont know much about Joe Louis at all.
I'm sorry, he was a great fighter (possibly the best heavyweight ever) but he doesn't have the fame Ali does.
Fame fades with time.
Ali will be forgotten eventually as well after he dies. How long after, not sure. He has a better chance to stay longer because of his Global appeal because of TV.
When Hatton retires, he will end up looking like a fat pimp like honeyghan

hatton.
he had to beat kostya tszyu to get his title. a lineal belt to go along with the org belt.
joe fought for a vacant belt for an upstart , not yet major org. the wbo was considered a minor belt for most of the time he was champ.
ricky fought another champion in his next fight.
joe didn't fight another beltholder for 9 years.
ricky jumped up to a higher division to challenge another champ soon afterwards.
it took joe what 'til he was 36? 37?
ricky fought the #1 p4p fighter in the world and is gonna fight another #1 p4p fighter next year.
joe could have done that but he didn't.
ricky > joe
......nuff said. this post is spot on.
Joe deserves more respect, because he takes good care of himself.
With Hatton's weight gains and losses from beer and junk food, he'll be shot long before he's Joe's age.
When Hatton retires, he will end up looking like a fat pimp like honeyghan

You know you're right. Whenever the greats are mentioned Sven Ottke is in the first sentence.
Look, whatever. My point is that Marciano is remembered for things other than his record. He has stories.
But you do make a good point. Calzaghe will, fairly or unfairly, be considered in the Sven Ottke ilk rather than with Marciano.
