The fight was very close but I urge all three of you to watch it again. The rounds were close but Calzaghe definitely won the fight by a good few rounds just by outworking Hopkins.
I know Hopkins is your boy but it's time to swallow your pride and admitt he lost like many of the Hopkins fans have.
You don't win fights just by throwing more punches, or at least, legitimately. Look at the biggest punch landed by Calzaghe, it was a grazing shot that barely moved Hopkins....clean effective punching, Hopkins won the fight.
thank you brother...calz didnt box at all.just thew more puches.im no fan of calz or bhop but i think BHPOP( AGAIN IM NOT A FAN OF HIS? shold have got nod..yout have to BEAT the CHAMP and calz did not beAT...
I am a fan and someone who knows about boxing. He won that fight easily. No contest. His white boy comments cost him the fight. Cal never punched him once.
I agree very much so...I think the fact that he gas'd a little bit is what really changed 2 of the judges minds..But I still thought he did enough to win.
Is that you in your av, Drew? Did you meet Merchant?

Disappointed in JC fans for realizing this loss means nothing at this stage.
lol are you serious?? OH GOD...These calzaghe nutt huggers boy this is exactly wat i was talking about frko my man lol..How is it not a perfect example of the fight? Calzaghe throws a 10 slap combo the crowd ooos and awws..HOpkins throws 3 punches and lands a flush shot that almost sends calzaghe into oblivion..But you say the headbutt did that? LMFAO! CAlzaghe was still slapping after the headbutt! POINT BEING..Calzaghe gets the Win on points Hopkins wins the fight, why there hasn't been a rematch yet? BEATS ME!
Man you crack me up! Always going off on one. Yes, a rematch would be good. It'd still be a damn ugly fight though.
It's not a perfect example because you picked the worse bit! LOL. Be fair now.
I'm just trying to see this a little less one-sided. I know you hate ol' slappy, and that's fine with me bro, seriously, but any Calzaghe hater would of course pick out the shittiest looking part and say it's a pefect example of the entire fight. A nuthugger would pick out a video with Hopkins rushing in with his head and then rolling about on the floor crying.
Yes, Bernard did land a headbutt. How much it hurt or affected Joe, I have no idea, but from some angles it doesn't look too pleasant. It certainly didn't almost send Calzaghe into oblivion.
Try to see this from a different point of view if you can though. It's all very well talking about nuthuggers, but you are getting as bad as the dudes on here who are seething with hatred. Nuthuggers, haters, they are both as extreme as each other.
Myself, sure I'm a fan of Calzaghe (not of this fight though, it sucks), but be aware that I am also critical at times. I certainly am not a nuthugger.
I'm a bit of a Pacman nuthgger though. And proud! Dude's a legend.

"The power of Tunney" :lol1:
The only power I have is to watch self-loathing nutcases like Danc1984 and Dynamite Kid (aka Terrible) day after day express their hatred toward white fighters. In this thread its Calzaghe, yesterday it was Valuev, a few days ago it was Hatton, before that Kessler, and before that Wladimir. Tomorrow he'll start hating on Adamek, claiming that Cunningham really won that fight...
Danc1984 is like Michael Jackson in reverse - he's a self-hating white guy. If he had Jackson's money, he would have surgery to change his appearance I'm sure.
Love you too Tunn.
I know I shouldn't laugh but the insanity of it all is just hilarious :lol1:
The power of Tunney- to accuse you of being a racist, and then all his brainwashed groupies join in.....it's just nuts.
Tbh, I'm just waiting for the day when I get put onto "Racist Watch" because I like Dawson, Haye, RJJ, Guzman etc....it's my turn next :lol1:
Actually, let me get their first...I'M A RACIST BASTARD. HATE ME!
My favourite was when Tunney accused me of putting Kessler is my av as a distraction to my racism because i criticised his recent opposition.
Oh lots of others call you a racist too? Go figure. Why am I not suprised.
Also, we don't care if your great great granddaddy was some white mans bitch.
Get over it.
I don't even get what this means. I am white with my entire extended family originating from the UK.
Be disappointed in me all you want, I don't even know you.
A lot of people, aside from myself, still think Hopkins won that fight 114-113.
Be happy your boy got the "W" in the record book.
Take your own advice white man hater. You're one of the biggest racists on these forums and have some nerve saying something like that.
Honestly, I am done defending myself against these bullshit racist calls. They are just nonsense. I feel like 1/3 of my posts are taken up with trying to tell ppl that I am not a racist.
So yeah, go fuk yourself.

"At the end of the day, from about the fourth round on, it just wasn't a hard fight at all."
LOL. I knew he'd have to get one in there somewhere.
So what was it? Was he motivated before the fight, but then just wasn't switched on when the fight came around? It's hard to tell from those comments.

He told Boxing News: "I just wasn't up for the Hopkins fight, I can't really explain it. That's why I walked into that shot of his in the first round and went down.

“If I beat Jones, I might move back down to super middleweight to face Kelly Pavlik. I still feel young," Calzaghe told Ron Lewis. "It all depends on how I perform against Jones. There's a good possibility I may fight on. I need fights that motivate me. Kessler motivated me, Hopkins motivated me, Jones motivates me. And Kelly Pavlik has been hanging around.”
You can still slightly under estimate them, especially at that age. Call Calzaghe stupid, arrogant, foolish, naive or whatever I would agree and greatly criticise Calzaghe there really I would. But I don't think there's much reason to disbelieve such a menial comment as I underestimated him a bit. Like I say most came away thinking that really, so I don't see why it's so different for Calzaghe.
Why can't we just admit Joe was stupid in not preparing tactically enough, didn't protect from right counters from Hopkins enough, was still surprised by this guys strength, skills and speed at 43. It's a compliment to Hopkins really that he was even better than anticipated, something again most keep realising even us as fans.
Thats fine, I see what you are saying, I just don't buy it. It was a tough fight and he struggled to be effective, sure, but that is a common feature in Hopkins fight. Just because he struggled doesn't necessarily mean he underestimated him. The man is just that hard to fight and look good against.
Yeah, but you can "not be able to get off" because of being outclassed. Pavlik did say after the fight that he was taught a lesson, which he was.
Basically, there is no way in hell Joe underestimated Hopkins. It just doesn't make any sense. You don't go over a decade undefeated by underestimating fighters, particularly multiple division, ATG ring champions.
