Basically I see this match coming down to a "Who wants Margarito more?" kind of fight. Both lost to Margarito, though I think Cotto's loss was more devastating than Clottey's loss. Clottey has won 5 in a row, whereas Cotto still has to fight Mike Jennings for the vacant WBO title. Will that violent display hinder Cotto for good? Still, I feel this would be a good fight to determine just who is deserving enough to fight Margarito, providing the "Tijuana Tornado" doesn't get outboxed by Shane Mosley Jan. 24th.
I say Clottey by Ko...Clottey was beating Margarito up bad in the early rounds before he hurt his hand. I don't think Cotto could take any of those shots. Cotto may be faster but Judah was faster than Clottey and we saw what happened to him...that boy would have been koed if he didn't fake that he couldn't see :boxing:
Clottey all day!!
Besides Margarito, Clottey is the strongest at 147.Clottey is very underated. His defence is Winky-ish,he has solid boxing skills and hes tougher than Cotto.Cotto can dish it out,but he cant take that return fire.Clottey takes him in a 12 round UD.
Cotto could win by UD or SD, Clottey has too limited a work rate. Cotto is strong enough to take whatever Clottey can throw, but he should watch the lunging right hand. It would be close though.
Clottey's hella ripped though. I don't think he'll be able to hurt Cotto though. I think Cotto will get to him by the 8th or 10th round.
Are you saying Cotto will KO Clottey by the 8th or 10th round?
Cotto's accurate punching and speed beats Clottey IMO. Clottey's best tool is his defense, but he'd have to be more on the offensive with Cotto to rack up points.
Cotto more likely by UD
I agree with this assesment, his style is more suitable for Margarito. Cotto can find the way to outbox him and Clottey does not have the workrate or the late fight conditioning to wear down Cotto. I would pick Cotto by UD in this one. Clottey's best shot is to somewhow get back in with Tony, but still his workrate and late fight conditioning make me doubt that he can beat an elite.

I truly believe Margarito and Clottey are the only welterweights who can beat Cotto. Clottey is stronger and can take Cotto's power, he also has better, tighter defence, and is a better counterpuncher. I wish Clottey was more known to the public because he is one of the best out there in my opinion.
I feel that Clottey's got a good defense and a good chin, he's capable of winning over Cotto, I think, though it would be a decision win, and not a unanimous one, I might add.
I think Joshua Clottey is tailor made for Cotto. Clottey fights at such a measured pace that he would allow Cotto to dictate the pace. At which point I think Cotto would pick him apart. I really think Cotto is a bad matchup for Clottey.
Cotto in a clear, and somewhat boring UD.
They already have a deal in place to rematch in June (Cotto and Margarito), so it ain't happening anytime soon. I agree though that Cotto should have to fight a legit opponent before Margarito since Margarito is fighting Mosley. I'd probably take Clottey over Cotto.
