Looks like the rumours regarding an upcoming fight between Winky Wright and Mikkel Kessler, launched by our favorite boxing oracle Dan Rafeal of ESPN, is false.
Today Kessler's promotor Mogens Palle firmly says that those rumours are untrue: "HBO wants to make a fight with Kessler on March 14 but Winky is NOT in our sight. Wright has turned us down earlier so we are looking in another direction".
Palle will not reveal any names.
In other news from the danish scene drums are still beating for an all danish clash between Mads Larsen and Kessler. Kessler calls Larsen unqualified and Larsen says that he's tired of hearing that from Mikkel. "But let the child have some fun", Larsen says to TV2.dk.
Larsen probably fights Bute next if he wins on saturday as his promotor Sauerland has an option on a Bute-defense.
A 60 second vid is here: http://sporten.tv2.dk/video/index.php/nodeId-19136063.html
35 year old Larsen fights the italian Cocco on the Valuev-Holyfield undercard this saturday.
It looks like he turned down Dawson for Froch so there you go. A decent match-up but I don't think much of Froch...at all. Maybe Kessler means well but I don't know about his management.
Kessler's management is a concern for sure.
To be 100% honest I don't want to see Kessler and Dawson in together. They are two of my favourite current fighters so I would rather just see them whoop everyone else.
I think Chad would beat Kessler though tbh. Chad's speed, combinations and tricky southpaw style would be pretty tough for Kess to deal with.
I don't think a great deal of Froch either, but at least he is a world titlist and top 5 guy at SMW. Kessler can at least bolster his resume and put himself back in the mix for some big fights with an impressive win over him.
As for Chad I would like to see him fight Calzaghe, but I don't think Joe will take that fight.
I'm a Kessler fan. I have been growing increasingly disillusioned though. He has two chances left with me. If he doesn't take on a reasonable opponent in one of his next two fights I am done with him.

:pat: :pat: :pat:
KESSLER YOU ****ING IDIOT. Who the hell cares if he "turned you down earlier", that's a stupid reason not to fight him. You need someone to fight and Winky Wright is a lot better then Mr. no one gives a shit about larsen.
Of course if Froch-Kessler comes to reason, it'd be good, but showtime would have to pick it up since HBO wouldn't pay for Froch-Kessler because HBO has that date for Marquez Diaz.
Yup. And regardless, Dawson is willing to do it at any weight. Kessler needs to sh*t or get off the pot.

Yeah, the argument that Dawson is bigger than Kessler is ridiculous. There is no way Dawson is significantly the bigger man. He could easily still be fighting at 168 whereas Mikkel is a massive SMW.

What reports on here said that? I'm still waiting for a quote. I've provided a published boxing magazine along with the issue that says the exact opposite. And the only thing I've seen on here is that Kessler turned the fight down. And then some crap about how big of a fighter Dawson is (really? The same Dawson who was fighting at 160 not too long ago?).

Yes, they did. In the new International Boxing Digest with Hopkins on the cover. These are quotes from the post-fight presser following Dawson-Tarver. Then see how HBO tried to negotiate a match with Kessler.
Based on those quotes & HBO's actions, I don't buy this "Dawson wouldn't agree to a catchweight" mess I'm hearing from Kessler's team. Yeah, right. So they'd move up to LHW to fight other guys but for Dawson he has to move down? Hmmm...
Yeah. That's what I heard. They were willing to move up for Hopkins and Calzaghe. Not for Dawson.
Nothing solid obviously as I'm not part of the negotiations, but Palle/Marley has said that they were willing to do it at a catchweight and according to reports here on NSB Dawson only wanted the fight at 175.

Seriously?
As a Dawson fan I don't want to see him move from 175. He needs to focus on establishing himself as a dominant LHW champion to build his profile.

Can you provide proof that Dawson turned it down? Because I can tell you that in next months International Boxing Digest that his management said YES they are willing to come down to fight Kessler or anyone else willing to step up.

Why should it? Kessler has shown no sign so far of moving up to LHW. There's an awful lot of unfinished business at SMW for a start.
EDIT. Hmm.. didn't know Dawson had actually turned Kessler down.
Yes he has. He's asked for a Calzaghe rematch and a Hopkins bout (supposedly). Does he think they're coming down to super middle for him?
And I have the quotes from Dawson's team regarding they're willingness to fight Kessler at any weight. I'm waiting for quotes from his team that say otherwise.

Right it could have been a good one, but unfortunately Dawson turned down a fight at a catchweight despite him calling the lighter man out.
But the fight might come off eventually when Kessler loses or grows out of SMW.

Yep lots of gret matchups at 168 waiting to be made and fighters who seem willing to get it on.
Really? It would be good to see some of them get signed. If Kessler fights that other Danish guy next I will be seriously pissed off.

If Kessler-Larsen happens, I will go NUT'S.
Wasting talent!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol. If Palle fails to land a meaningful fight for Kessler (i.e. a yank or Froch) look for Larsen to step in. It might be unimportant to the US fans, but it'll likely fill Parken Stadium with 40,000 people and be the biggest fight ever over here.
