He may be over-rated by some Brits, but the man has been a World Champion for well over a decade and has never been beaten in the sport of boxing and the fact that he suffers with a terrible hand condition makes this all the more remarkable. For me, a resume that includes names such as Bernard Hopkins, Chris Eubank, Mikkel Kessler, Jeff Lacy, Mitchell, Robin Reid and Roy Jones Jr. is fairly impressive and deserves at least a little bit of respect. Why do some people appear to genuinely hate the man? If you want to know the truth, some people hate Joe because he is white. Have you noticed those who bash him, like Flawless, Allucard, Terrible and DiegoFuego, hate the other white fighters too? You just summed up why Calzaghe doesnt have as many fans as other boxers. He has the personality of a cardboard box. And have you ever considered that Prince Naseem, Ricky Hatton and Nigel Benn were all much more exciting to watch, hence why they had a better following? And in my honest opinion, Naz, Hatton and Benn are all better boxers than Calzaghe. He's a great fighter but he really has taken an easy route to build his legacy. its true hes a pretty boring guy compared to someone like eubank or naz. but thats what i like about joe he doesn't want that fanfare and hype he just wants to get on with what he does best which is winning. hes not very good at self promotion unlike some fighters like haye or naz. but come on you honestly think that if you were to look at their traits their p4p strength, power, speed, chin and stamina or their skill set, will to win, ring IQ and determination then any of the other british boxers comes close? i suppose most british boxers would beat joe in the power rankings but in literally every other department he is better, a couple of UK fighters may rival him in terms of speed (haye, naz,) but thats about it. for a LHW/SMW he has unbelievable stamina and output, a great chin and his ring generalship/boxing IQ is the best in the world right now.
