I realized last night that PPV is just not worth it. You almost have the same chance of watching a good fight on free tv as you do PPV. Granted the quality of the fighters is much different but the chance of seeing an exciting fight isn't. Last night watching that versus card was almost funny because there was more back in forth action in the first round of the undercard then there was all night last saturday on PPV.
My personal opinion is that boxing fans should hope that networks like Versus produce more good fights because it could be a great way to reach new fans.
Hell yea! Versus is the best! cheers to them, both of their fights were great to watch and on free TV! and BOTH were championship fights!
everyone needsw to keep their eye out for these guys. I think theyre having James Toney vs Oquendo on Saturday night too, BEFORE the Showtime event. thats just smart.
Plus, occasionally theyll have 'Legends of the Ring' on, where they give you some superfights like Hagler vs. Autofermo 1 and Toney vs Roy Jones on, and theyll give you background info on the fight and fighters. Its really a great show.
I support Versus 100%.
Putting boxing back on free TV would defintely revive the sport, no doubt about it. People still like boxing, the whole thing just needs to be promoted better to the mainstream audience.
By the way, Versus isn't exactly free TV, you need a satellite dish to get the channel... but a channel like Versus is headed in the right direction. If we can just get good cards on regular network TV the entire sport would rise from the dead again.
It's a normal channel where I live.
Great fights!!! I was thinking by the 10th round that if Cunningham was to come back and knock out Adamek this would of been one of the best fights of the year if not the best.
They got themselves a great fight. Had me gripped throughout. HBO having Cotto and Pavlik (both who lost their last fight) on PPV against no names is insane.
I thought Arum was putting that together without HBO
I agree... I actually hate watching boxing on HBO. Merchant I think is getting Alzheimers and Manny S. just sucks. All I want is to watch a boxing match and the commentators to call the fight. Not this nonsense that comes out of HBO's commentators like Max.
I like versus. I'm even surprised they show boxing now, I thought they were all about MMA / hockey.
Last night's fights were great. Both of them. Versus has of recently been putting on some better fights. I think since they got away from just having Arum fighters on there it's been better. Even though I wish they would put Tye Fields back on their air waves.

I second this. God bless Versus. I only wish the Cotto-Jennings and Pavlik-Rubio card was on Versus instead of PPV.
I love HBO, but part of me says they're killing the sport. Events like last night should be more frequent.
