Am i wrong for not haveing Ali in my top ten of all time list?

My bro thinks so, Here is my list 1 Henry Armstrong 2 Willie Pep 3 Sugar ray Robinson 4 Harry Greb 5 Ray Learnard 6 Roberto Duran 7 Pernell Whitaker 8 Roy Jones 9 Joe Louis 10 Carlos Monzon Not at all; it's really who you like between Louis and Ali. Everyone is going to have a different top ten. Off top of my head, mine would probably be: Rob Armstrong Duran Pep Langford Charles Jofre Louis Wilde and Canzoneri or Greb. Flip a coin.

Its like with guitarists. From a technical standpoint (not what he did to change the guitar, just mearly rating technical ablility), Hendrix isnt in the top 1000. But if you dont rate him as the best newbies get angry.

Obviously the top ten of who you like is going to differ from the top ten pound for pound of all time. Some people dont like Ali, his persona or his style, some folks much prefer aggressive come forward, harder punchers. Interesting then as to why Whittaker and Leonard are included and Ali isn't, surely Ali's resume is better! He was Leonard's and Whitakker's influence, albeit Whittaker was a southpaw. You could argue that Ali was better at his craft than both although Leonard was a pound for pound heavier hitter! There is very little fight footage of Grebb so its hard to assess his real abilities. Lastly, much as I like and respect Monzon, he'd never see my top 30, Hagler and even Hopkins is more deserving IMO. That said great list even if the order is a bit odd for me.

If it wouldnt of been for that plane crash braking his legs and arms pep might not of ever got beat, and armstrong 3 weights at one time, got robbed of his 4th title the middleweight crown speak for it self. Pep lost a close decision to lightweight champion Sammy Angott before the plane crash. Angott was twice beaten by Robinson at LW (non-title fight) and WW. In my opinion Robinson was the number 1, Armstrong was the number 2, aside from that I don't really have any made-up top p4p list. Not having Ali in the top 10 shouldn't be considered "blasphemous" by any means although Leonard, Monzon, Jones, Louis, Whitaker could all be considered lower than Ali in the rankings. I personally wouldn't rank any of them above him. Past fighters such as Langford, B. Leonard, Fitzsimmons, Gans, Charles, Wilde, Walker, etc. could possibly be ranked above Ali.

No I'm not gonna say Pernell beat JCC as convincinly as he beat DLH. But he clearly beat him in my opinion as for the bold... How do you know? It is a general consensus. Run a poll if you like. I love Pernell, but I can't give him the DLH fight.

By the way is that list your opinion on who has accomplished more/ beat the better opponents? Cuz even though Pernell did beat JCC/ DLH...it wasn't counted So is this your personal opinion? It is all opinion dude. And you can't put "Pernell beat Oscar" in the same bracket as "Pernell beat Chavez". Pea beat Chavez without a doubt, noone could argue otherwise. Pea-Oscar was a very close and disputed fight in which the majority of ppl thought Oscar won. Hardly the same.

It's all subjective really. Me personally, I would never rate Louis higher than Ali.

Not at all, Ali was amazing but is largly over rated when it comes to top 10 lists.

I personally think every list should include Ali in the top 10. I just feel like everyone should have come to a consensus by now. Say what you want, but the guy transcended the sport like no other has, he had the skill, he had the will, the heart, the impressive resume...and he ALWAYS performed when it mattered. I don't have some crazy affinity for Ali or anything but I feel like he should be a staple of anyones top ten list. I think every list should include Robinson, Ali, Duran and Louis at least.

It's your opinion, so you can't be wrong. He's in mine, but who's to say who's right?
