Indications are that the pay-per-view result will be around 1.5 million buys, which is a phenomenal number. It’s a tribute not only to De La Hoya’s ability to sell, but it points out the widespread popularity that Pacquiao has obtained. This guy isn’t popular just among his countrymen in the Philippines.
From Kevin Iole's mailbag over at yahoo, those are great numbers considering the economy.
Ok...And to think some thought this wouldn't beat UFC's Lesnar-Coutoure's 850k PPV's...The biggest fight in MMA history does 850K but DLH-Pac does 1.5 yeah Boxing sure is feeling the threat of UFC huh?
I really doubt DLH can convince the public to shell out money to watch him fight again, this beating would have definitely taken something out of his marketability.
after hearing this, i have my doubts that de la hoya retires. he is simply too much of a cash cow for boxing in general. maybe he'll fight on at a higher weight.
I think it's going to be a little bit higher. Let's wait official word. As of today they were still tracking ppv's
The more the better, great numbers.
Was was the record before DH-Mayweather? Wasn't it like 1.9mil for Holyfield vs Bowe or something like that?
Tyson-Holyfield 2 did 1.95 million.
