Joe Calzaghe has given the biggest hint yet that the unbeaten Welsh boxing superstar will retire.
The 36-year-old had said his Madison Square Garden victory over Roy Jones Jr would be his last but Calzaghe is being tempted by big-money offers.
However, Calzaghe told BBC Sport: "I will make my final decision after the New Year but I will probably retire."
Carl Froch claimed Calzaghe's old WBC super-middleweight title on Saturday and wants a shot at the Welshman.
Chad Dawson, Jermain Taylor and Glen Johnson are in the queue for a big money showdown with former super-middleweight king Calzaghe.
And his previous victims Bernard Hopkins, Mikkel Kessler and Jones Jr all want rematches with the world light-heavyweight number one who is unbeaten in 46 fights in an 18-year professional career
Froch, who beat Canada's Jean Pascal on Saturday, is keen for his promoter Mick Hennessy to tempt Calzaghe with enough cash to keep him out of retirement.
Calzaghe, though, said: "Carl who? Who's that guy? Nah."
Froch is not a big box office name for American TV broadcasters HBO who are willing to come to the UK for a Calzaghe career finale in Cardiff.
So, if Calzaghe did continue, it would probably be against a big-name American.
Calzaghe, however, has said he "doesn't like rematches" so that would seemingly rule out a super-fight reunion with Jones and Hopkins.
Agreed, good post. And a friend request coming your way.

Erm... maybe you ought to obtain some 'boxing knowledge' before criticising other people's? This Ameri-centric revisionist boxing 'history' is starting to get on my tit.
Time for some home truths. What actually happened, not only in the case of Calzaghe but also Eubank and Benn shortly before was that the likes of Jones just didn't want to fight THEM. I don't even criticise them for that, particularly as exactly the same would and does happen today when there was/is a high risk of defeat by a foreign fighter and a very low risk of an exceptional payday. Calzaghe wasn't the Ring champ and p4p #2 then. Calzaghe was the WBO champ, the guy who, even a dozen wins later, American boxing fans and pundits still thought Lacy would beat easily. Not on the basis of any reasoned assessment of Calzaghe, but simply the fact they had never heard of him and unthinkingly underestimate all European fighters.
Of course Dawson is willing to travel to the UK to fight Calzaghe.. the Ring LHW champ, p4p #2 and 46-0. It's huge money and huge kudos for a win. But will the 'hungry young champion' fight Froch in Nottingham, or Kessler in Copenhagen even if the money matched that on offer in the States? I respectfully suggest, will he hell (and I wouldn't blame him, either) . But until he does, you are talking horsesh*t.
There is one fighter and one only to whom Calzaghe 'owes' anything IMHO, not Dawson and certainly not B-Hop, but Glen Johnson.
Great post right there
OH MY GAWD! You Calzaghe fans are so delusional in your attempts to defend his "legacy" you just stray so far away from common boxing knowledge its sad...The first defense is "Oh Dawson has fought old fighters his past 2 fights"..Point is..Dawson is a young hungry Champion who wants the BEST...I dont think JC was fighting opponents of that caliber at Dawsons age willing to travel to the US to fight Jones back then....

calzaghe is a bum
if joe isnt going 2 fight dawson then he should retire. im tired of these boxers who fight bums ther whole career then fight washed up fighters 4 cash. give a young champion a shot. calzaghe wants no part of bad chad
I'll never give Calzaghe the respect. He beat two past their best high-profile fighters in Hopkins, Jones. He barely beat Hopkins. His only credible wins are Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins. A prime Hopkins, Jones beats him.
The only way i'll give him upmost respect is if he beats Dawson
How about we re-write that stupid post of yours. Here goes:
I'll never give Dawson the respect. He beat a past their best high-profile fighter in Tarver. He barely beat Johnson. His only credible wins are erm. Erm......
See what an ass you are???
ignoring the reigning champion, Dawson, and call it a career. LOL anyone?
LOL?
You laugh at Joe's record and yet ignore the fact that the "reigning" world champ as just come off with a win against a 40 year old dinasaur as well as a "win" against Glenn which everyone knows he lost.
LOL indeed.

The only way i'll give him upmost respect is if he beats Dawson, point blank. not saying my outlook is what everybody outlooks is, but its just my opinon.
i hope he doesnt, he should fight dawson in the uk or b hop again. i think b hop earned a rematch by his performance in there first fight and in what he did to pavlik. i got much love for calzaghe but i would love to see him fight one the these men in the uk before he calls it a day :****you:
Joe is garbage, what annoys me is people are trying EVERYTHING to have Joe as number 1 p4p when he clearly the WORST fighter in the top 5. What does p4p means? It means Pacquiao, Marquez, Mayweather, prime Oscar, Jones, Whitaker, Chavez. Maybe Hatton or Haye. But having this fraud at the top 3 makes every good boxer thinking of having a decent career, try o pull a Joe Calzaghe, fighting in Europe for 10 years defending a tittle there for 10 years against fringed contenders and a decade into that move up 7 pounds to LHW and beat two 40 year olds who don't even hold a belt, ignoring the reigning champion, Dawson, and call it a career. LOL anyone?
Yup. This "warrior" doesn't give rematches. He just slaps around air for 12 rounds, wins a "workrate" decision then claims he "kicked his ass".
you bitter bitch...
lacy lost accept it... so did hopkins and jones...
shut up
Kessler could have been down when Joe got him with that body shot, but that stupid yank referee intervened and gave him precious time to recover.
True. That pissed me off. I think Kessler could have been taken out.
I love Kessler, by the way. That was a hard fight to watch cause I'm a fan of both.

You make some constructive critical posts on Calzaghe but this isn't one of them and just seems a little ignorant and cynical.
Of course Lacy was his biggest most recent beat down, because it was one of the biggest most one sided beat downs of the decade. But to say he didn't soundly hurt and beat RJJ and Kessler is just misleading. Calzaghe ran away with those fights, soundly beat them, hurt them, messed their faces up, in fact even more so than Lacy in many ways.
Roy Jones had a massive cut as a result of a punch. He hurt him at a few others points aswell, RJJ himself said he punched harder then he first thought. Kessler was soundly beaten, had one eye significantly bruised, swelling and pretty much closed. Also caught him with a body shot with which rocked him, and he admitted hurt him. They were for the most part, dominated.
Calzaghe as much as you want him to, will not beat Hopkins again. There's no point, it wasn't a close SD, it was about as thin a SD as you can get with one judge scoring for Hops by one round, the other 2 in consensus of a clear win for the winner by 3, and then 5 - the latter more than Taylor ever managed. Most agree with this. It happened, it's over.

Here's the irony,
Calzaghe's last fight was boring
Hopkins' was thrilling to watch
Thank Jones for making it boring.
By the way, I enjoyed it very much. Speak for yourself :)

:boxing:Honestly, I can't wait for Joe to retire. I don't even care about the Hopkins rematch. I know that at the end of the day Bernard's legacy and place among the hallowed halls of "All Time Greats" was cemented 7 years ago with his win over Trinidad. Joe will never have a spot in time amongst the elites.
I just can't stand anything about Joe, straight up. His attitude makes Mayweather seem humble by comparison, and his record doesn't have two legs to stand on to warrant his claims. Plus his style is absolute garbage, it's a pure work rate style designed to win fights with pitter patter shots.
I'll throw a party when he's retired. I'm buying everyone who feels like I do about Joe an e-gift when he's gone.
ahmen to that GREAT post
First off it's been years since Joe kicked anybody's ass, Lacy was the last guy he did that to.
Secondly, I don't blame him either. The first time out Hopkins made him look a fool even with his thyroid condition, a rematch against a 100% Bernard is a death sentence for his undefeated streak.

I'm just posting what Joe said.
Jones Jr. was the last ass that Joe kicked. And man did he kick that ass hard.
I forgot about Roy, already. But I'll agree, he did kick Roy's ass, embarassing actually. Thankfully I never liked Roy either.
I don't blame him. Why would Joe want to go out on an ugly, unwatchable fight with his sworn enemy?
Calzaghe hates Hopkins. He says he is a racist and he kicked his sorry ass. No way will Joe ever fight Hopkins again, he doesn't want to give him another payday and bore his fans to sleep.
