Roach said on their own scales, not long before the fight, Manny weighed over 146 lbs. His weight at the weigh in had him at 142.
Oscar came in at 145, which seemed strange as we were expecting him to struggle to make the limit.
Oscar did not appear weight drained as he had a nice sweat on just before their fight and a weight drained guy will not sweat up well at all.
You think there is a possibility that the scales may have recalibrated just so Manny would not get more money if Oscar could not make the 147lb limit?
It is definitely something to think about. There is my conspiracy theory for the day :D
You have a point. I expected Oscar to come in to the fight at least 152- 156. He looked frail. His face looked like the night he fought Ike Quartey.
He was greased up fine though just before the walk to the ring, which suggests he was well hydrated.
I think he just looked kinda old. I don't think he was weight drained. You cannot lather up like that being weight drained. As silencers said, over trained might have been something to look into. Perhaps Manny was just too fast for him as Oscar did have some fight in him early.
I just found this on another website. Strange stuff floating around. This one debunks my theory totally but makes you wonder why Oscar came in so light.
As for the penalties: I asked Eric Gomez of Golden Boy Promotions if there is any truth to the oft-reported notion that De La Hoya will have to pay a certain amount per pound above 147 that he weighs. Eric insists there is absolutely nothing in the contract to that effect.
They could have rigged it just before Manny and Oscar weighed in. It is strange that there would be a 4 lb difference between Manny's scales and the official ones.
I don't think anyone else actually saw them weigh in again, it could just be something Freddie Roach was saying and I didn't see anyone even do anything to the scales in the weigh in video on the main page.
No, the other fighters had no problems with their weights.

that would mean that oscar went from 149 at the weigh-in to 147 on fight night. so no, I don't think the scales were rigged.
