Not trying to start shit, just an honest question. Not only is he one of the best fighters in the world, he's entertaining, and willing to fight anyone too. Yet every fight I see of his, he gets hardly any fan reaction. When they announced, "And New..." you could hear a pin drop. He continues to fight in smaller arenas. Hell Arreola was really the main attraction last night.
It's odd to me that a guy like Williams cant even get some fan support. Is his promoter to blame? Is it just the American fan base in general? Other than Pavlik, not a lot of current American fighters have that support.
I'm not a major fan but I don't have and negativity about him either. I do know the only reason he left the welterweight division was because nobody wanted to fight him, which after Pavlik stood him up, left him the most unwanted opponent in boxing.
Funny but in this sport the old saying, "You are only as good as your last fight" carries so much truth!
Indeed. I know people scream weight classes not height classes, but he still has an advantage. Tell him to gain 15 to 20lbs and make him fight with the super six, or somthing. He gets no respect for fighting at welter.

P-Will got a fanbase in the SouthEast region of the US, too bad his promotor is too stupid to get a fight made in the area. I mean God damn, Atlanta, D.C. Biloxi, or Memphis would have huge P-Will turn outs but we don't get fights down here for shit.
I heard people cheering him on before his fight with Martinez in Atlantic City. He's more of an east coast fighter and Goosen keeps putting him out in Cali.
I'm a huge fan.
PW will be MW champion soon.
The fanbase will get larger soon.
At the end of the day, I'm not sure if P Will will ever have that fanbase. To be frank about it, AA fighters don't get the groundswell of support that other ethnic fighters do from there communities. That's why it's incredibly surprising that a defensive AA fighter like Mayweather is one of the biggest draws in the sport.
Not much has changed.
Why is Williams fighting in California anyway?
I don't know but is strange. PWill has beaten margarito and he had a marvellous match against the new middlew. champion of the world. Plus, he was facing a guy with an high KO %. And don't forget that accoring to The Ring Pwill is P4P right now.
Strange.
I was generalizin homey. Surely the man has some true backers, but the bulk of the cats on here who rep him are PBF diehards who are on his nuts cuz their hero is gone and never fought Marg. They thought Cotto would get rid of Marg, but when he didn't Pwill became their new god cuz he gave them an avenue to accuse Marg of bein a hypocrite and holds a win over him.
it's pretty simple. Most his fans on this site are bandwagon floyd fans. When floyd retired the williams bus started up. These guys hide behind williams in attempt to bash margarito and cotto, hence the only threads or attention william gets are in margarito threads. :) poor paul he deserves better fans than that!

Even fans duck paul williams  that's what a williams fan would say. His fights or threads get no attention unless the guy in my avi is involved. Paul will needs margarito! he needs him bad :haha:
Thats not fair, Im not a hugger at all.
As for the thread question, you got me. I've never been to a live pro fight.

I'm not going to deny it. I'm a PWill fan. I'm also a Mayweather, AND a Margarito fan. Shocking, isn't it?
I refuse to be pigeon holed by somebodies perception of me on a message board.
They all get the job done in different way's. I appreciate Mayweathers technical brilliance, Margarito's amazing stamina, work rate, and chin, and PWill's freakish attributes.
You can find something to like about all three.
Co-sign homey. Pwill is ill, but his fans on here ain't really his fans at all. They're just PBF huggers who'll rep him to death cuz he's Marg's rival and di what PBF wouldn't. If PBF came back, watch Pwill's "fans" disappear into thin air and start sayin Pwill ain't shit and PBF would school him.
There is something to this I believe.
Its a shame, he's a solid fighter willing to take all comers who just happens to be poisoned with havin fake fans

Are you at least warming up to him? His chin and knack for fighting inside really helps his defensive liabilities. And you have to at least respect his punch output. I cant say I'm completely sold on him as a force yet, but I'm pretty much convinced that he's a top fighter in the sport.
Yeah he's fine. His punches aren't delivered with any weight behind them, but that's a product of having overlong arms. (It's a common misperception that having long arms is advantageous in boxing).
The way he worked the body last night was very impressive, and anyone who throws a hundred punches in a round is ok with me.
He looks too amatuerish to win over the real connoisseurs of the sport, and lacks the power to attract casual fans. Most of his fans are former Mayweather supporters, but the younger less purist among those.
