Look at round 2 of tonights fight. Phillips smothered Williams and landed hard shots on the inside and won that round. That is the key to beating Williams. If you stay at a distance thats suicide. Antonio Margarito has the style to beat Williams and will do so in a rematch. You all saw what happened when he started in the first fight. He cut the ring/distance and landed hard shots close on the inside

good point, but then why ain't marg in no rush to rematch williams?
hm... maybe pressure don't work after all.
the dude had 10 losses coming into the ring and more ring mileage than the other 3 boxers (that fought tonight) put together and yet you are impressed. are you and Max Kellerman related?
But they're not impressed with Calzaghe beating Jones.
Go figure.
Hmm, stopped a man who hasn't been stopped in 20 years, and did so with a nasty cut. I think he looked very composed having to deal with that. So, I"m impressed.

He can't handle pressure yet won the fight? The key to beating Williams might be maintaining that pressure, but better yet who can maintain that pressure against him? By the way, in Quintana's win over Williams I remember Carlos landing a lot of counters from the outside, and that was his main weapon. So staying at a distance isn't necessarily suicide, maybe that is the key.
Williams is the rebirth of Riddick Bowe, a fighter with vast physical advantages who nonetheless sacrifices them to mix it up on the inside, and very well for such a large man.
Williams reminded me a lot of Corrales tonight. A tall fighter that doesn't use his height and looks comfortable, almost prefers to fight on the inside.
I agree with Tengoshi, he reminded me of Bowe in there, defensively not great, he can get tagged on the inside, very tall but likes to fight there, he reminded me of Bowe more than Corrales honestly.
Yeah, I agree. I think the blueprint that Quintana set in their first fight still applies. He gets tagged too much.
Yeah, Phillips was giving him some trouble with his movement as well early, Williams took over the fight when he slowed down and started becoming a stationary target.
Yeah round two where he closed it beating the piss out of Phillips' kidney and liver. Loser TS=Loser Thread
Green to red in under an hour. That's what being a cunt does for you.
I see a very supremely fit individual who throws nice combinations. Who is a gigantor compared to every guy he faces. Guy looks like a 168 pounder
I don't think he is a special fighter. He takes those punches like there a nausance.
He is a physical wonder.
The elite fighters get him imo.
The way to beat Williams is by moving, not letting him get his feet set, Williams is a good inside fighter, surprising really considering his height.

Cotto is the only one that would beat Williams IMO right now. I see it as a really bad matchup for Williams and he would take a LOT of punishment.
And to the thread starter, Williams can take plenty of pressure and will keep coming at you...

Williams was impressive tonight but he still looks beatable. He's not the fastest and he doesn't have a crisp, popping jab like Cotto's to keep all of his opponents at bay. A good inside fighter could take him out.
