Look at this video, this is a Prime Jeff Lacy, not a shell of the fighter who lost to Taylor last week.
Regardless how good Lacy is or how overrated he was, you can beat a fighter and then you can do this to one. Taylor didn't beat a shot Lacy nearly as badly as Calzaghe beat this Lacy.
Ass whooping.
There is no such thing as a prime Jeff Lacy. There's a "never was" Jeff Lacy. By the way, why do we need to see the video, do you think we forgot? Jeff Lacy is a one dimentional fighter with a body builder's frame, not a boxer. His best wins before Calzaghe were against Scott Pemberton, Robin Reid, and Omar Sheika. He almost got KO'd against Syd Vanderpool for god's sakes. Why is this win so impressive? But I guess he has that win against Peter Manfredo to fall back on, or a shot Roy Jones. I give him all the credit in the world for beating Hopkins, and I don't think it was controversial. I think the Kessler win was impressive, but why is it Jeff Lacy that is always mentioned by Calzaghe fans? If I were a Calzaghe fan I wouldn't even talk about Lacy, the guy sucks and everytime he fights it makes Calzaghe's win over him less impressive.
Calzaghe is not an all-time great. He is one of the P4P best at the moment, but to call him an all-time great would be a slap in the face to true ATG's.
Robinson
Leonard
Ali
Calzaghe
Louis
Dempsey
Duran
hmmm...which one is out of place? lol
Teacha...is this correct?
:)

lol they are sensitive... look i got no problem with praising joe as a good fighter... its the people that blow him up to more then what he is... blow his wins up more then they are.... just be realisitc about his accomplishments and we dont have a problem... 46-0 isnt an easy task no matter who ur fighting... but just realize whose included in those 46
Well Sir, maybe you dont' undestand the Greatness Joe just achieved...let me explain:
Hopkins was 43 and just beat an incredible fighter in Kelly Pavlik. 43 may sound old, but if we remember, Foreman at 45 beat Michael Moorer...so age is just a number.
Roy Jones just beat Tito who is a HOF fighter. Roy is a legend in the sport.
Roy is only 39 or so which makes him younger than Hopkins who was younger than Foreman. Age is just a number. Roy was still good.
Note: Hopkins has been on the decline since Tito which is about 8 years. He also lost to Taylor twice at middleweight which many thought was the end. His inability to fight from round 1 on showed he was being careful with preserving his stamina...something he never did prior to Tito.
Bernard's move up to fight Tarver, who defeated a deflated Casper the Ghost, I mean Roy Jones, meant little except to signal Jones kicked it into 6th gear and aged quickly by destroying his body's equilibrium from the muscle weight loss and age. It is also arguable that Roy peaked at 30 athletically and had been on a slow decline.
Roy was later knocked out by Tarver in the rematch and looked hesitant in the 3rd fight. Roy's confidence was shot; just like his body. Roy would later be KTFO by Glen Johnson; a fighter Roy would have toyed with in his prime
This same weight loss act would be followed by Tarver's move to a HW weight for the Rocky movie. He would lose the weight and come in "flat"/deflated for Hopkins, who took advantage of the situation; the old fox struck again.
Hopkins would go on to beat a middleweight named Pavlik: A tall, lanky, stiff, slow, predictable, but tough, strong, somewhat powerful fighter who had never fought a great technical fighter. He was mentally broken down by Hopkins who did perform well, but it may have something to do with his opponent being exposed…we’ll see in the future. Maybe Pavlik was sick…I don’t know. He was soundly defeated by a 43 year old.

The Roy Jones Jr that people only said he was shot once Calzaghe beat him up, the same Roy Jones Jr who lost the first 4 rounds to trinidad and some of his fans still believe he wasn't shot.
Some people are sensitve on these boards so I felt nice today and included it

Of course not...but he is going into the Hall.
When I think of ATGs, I think of Louis, Jimmy Wilde, Benny Leonard :), Sugar Ray Robinson, Ali, etc.
Joe's in the hall down near the bathroom. {kidding}
{kinda} :roy4:
he may get into the hall of fame but that don't make him an ATG.

Like I said before, I said Lacy was overrated when he was starting to be compared to a young Tyson, but he was considered a threat at 168, and Joe was the first to expose him.
Lacy and Kessler are Joe's biggest wins.
I wouldn't go too far either: Grant was hailed by the American promotion machine and he was exposed by Lewis. He amounted to nothing after-wards. Lacy hasn't done much since.
If one fight can do it, remember, the Roy Jones Jr. "Shot" statement is now in full play.
I thought it was a great display of Joe, but I also knew it was bound to happen with Lacy...just not that bad...that surprised me.
Joe's going into the Hall of Fame; don't worry.

Didnt throw punches when he could?? Because Joe was battering him like a fish.
nope, rjj stopped throwing... joe had his hands down for most of the 2nd half of the fight. rjj is shot.
Didnt throw punches when he could?? Because Joe was battering him like a fish.
he wasnt on him like u say
he back off quite a bit more then normal and jones was just staring, its not like the punches where hurting him, it was the cut that sealed it for jones
Mind you hes old, not as slick,
and diddnt throw puches when he could
Prime Roy KO5 Joe

go google jimmy wilde and see what you come up with.
****ing know-nothings in this ****ing website......
I always piont Jimmy Wilde out. Make sure you capatilize the letters next time though. :)
With Jimmy, they don't talk about him as some Brit...just that he was a GREAT fighter and one of the All Time Legends.
it's true ricky.
taking on the #1 p4p and #1 147 champion in the world is more memorable in a loss than any win over jeff lacy or mikkel kessler or robin reid or charles brewer......
beating the 140 king kostya tszyu who hasn't loss in 8 years surpasses beating a 43 yr. old bernard hopkins who lost 2 of his previous 4 fights.
is beating a shot roy jones even better than beating a shot jose luis castillo?
Yup. You have to hand it to Hatton, although he avoided Floyd twice before, he still got him int time before Floyd past his prime. Floyd was the #1 Fighter in the World P4P.
He did fight Kostya Tszyu, although Tszyu was past his prime and had been very inactive for the past 3 years, but somebody had to knock the King of the Mountain; and Ricky did it.
Ricky also wants another crack at Floyd...as well as the winner of Pac vs. Goldy.
Ricky also got on a plane and came to America to make some noise in order to get the fight with Floyd.
Ricky left the protection of Frank Warren.
Where was Joe years ago...I didn't see him trying to do this to get a prime Roy Jones Jr. in the ring. Of course, Joe would have had to move up in weight, something Ricky did...in order to fight Roy...Ricky did it for Floyd.
At least he is trying.
