This is something that irritates me very much. I don't have many friends that watch boxing. Whenever conversation comes up (usually started by me), the only names they know are Mayweather & Pavlik (maybe because he lives a half hr away).
I usually call them front-runners & they usually defend themselves by saying that they have been fans of Floyd Mayweather for a long time. For people who aren't hardcore fans I find this very hard to believe. When they say long time most of them mean since '00 or so and onward. I usually respond by asking a detailed couple questions that only a true fan would know about Mayweather & most of them can't answer.
So I guess my question is: Is it possible for these claims to be true?
Maybe. One of my friends is a casual fan, but has liked Mayweather for awhile. Only because of me though, would he know of fighters who aren't big names (anyone not named Tyson, DLH, or Holyfield).
Normally, you'd think casual fans would like the wild brawlers and not scientific boxers. But my friend said he hates watching Gatti, because he "fights like a retard", but loves watching Mayweather's moves.
In my chorus class we went around saying our favorite teams.
This kid David Hodges said he didn't like team sports but his favorite athlete was Floyd "Money" Mayweather. I scoffed and told him that Mayweather ducked Cotto and Margarito and that he was now retired at the age of 31. He said that Mayweather beat Oscar De La Hoya and that because of that he is the greatest fighter of all time.
LOL, yeah that sounds like a normal casual bandwaggon mayweather fan
its bullshit.they've seen him on the oscar show, and dwts.
that's what i figure it is. mayweather never really came into the spotlight till around the gatti fight i would say. he really was in the public eye during the de la hoya fight.
usually i'll say, "if ur such a huge mayweather fan, what was his main sponsor that he wore to the ring for most of his early career?" obviously most aren't able to answer enyce. most don't even know that he took the bronze medal in the olympics.

i think... it is true...
you dont have to watch floyd 2 manytimes to notice that he aint just a normal fighter.... theres a lot of people who cant enjoy the way he fights or he promotes himself.. but at least i think that floyd charisma and athletic skills can make an impact in just in 2 or 3 fights...to make casual boxing fans not to forget him.. :boxing:
