Why do people mock Margarito for turning down 2 million when Mayweather turned down 8

Mayweather never claimed to be the most feared and that nobody would fight him. Margarito ran his mouth and isnt backing it up

It's because everyone wanted to fight Mayweather for the big payday. Obviously if you have 20 different guys calling you out at once you'll take the one who makes the highest offer. Margarito on the other hand was declared the most feared man in boxing before the cotto fight. never got no credit. none. then he beat the best. He's obviously gonna think that makes him more fearsome, but in reality it just makes his name bigger and him worth bigger paydays. People are gonna call him out and thats obvious. But when you decline a 4 million dollar offer with Paul Williams to try and get a bigger fight with DLH then good for you if it happens. But it didnt. He still didn't fight Paul yet. Now he gets a career high 2 million dollar deal if he accepts it with an aged legend in Shane Mosely... Personally I think Bob Arum had alot to do with it. I dont think he wanted to take the risk of having another one of his big name fighters lose to someone from Golden Boy. Cotto was beat. Pavlik was schooled. Pacman will possibly get knocked out. Margarito's the only one left

Floyd's a flashy undefeated p4p fighter that's why. That sells on paper.

Makes him look like a hypocrite....I think he could easily beat Mosley, but too much risk and too little reward, maybe hes scared of speed

I read the forums here for a while before I decided to start posting and all I saw pre Hopkins/Cal was on how Hop was going to expose him and how great BHop is. Hardly read anything negative about him, other than his age. You didn't read anything then because before Hopkins beat Pavlik that's all there was. He still gets criticized too. Just not as much.

Can someone answer this for me :pat: yea, floyd turned down 8 and got more than 8 and fought a linear champion. marg is turning down his BIGGEST PAYDAY and will not get more anywhere else. If you think these two situations are comparable you have alot to learn.

I agree with this, just like no one says shit about Hopkins making a name out of fighting smaller guys, but then they turn on DLH. Where have you been? Hopkins gets (got) criticzed on here all the time. Especially before Calzaghe Hopkins.

It wasn't sure if De La Hoya was going to take the rest of the year off and Mayweather couldn't fight in august because of his hand. That and Baldomir was the undisputed champ.

Can someone answer this for me :pat: Because Mayweather is black. and you know the fact that Mayweather pretty much was chasing the De La Hoya fight and was going to make much more for that and Margarito has no one else to fight and isn't going to make more then 2 million except for a Cotto rematch which isn't happening right away. Not to mention Baldomir was worth more at the time of Nov. 2006 anyway and was offering him just as much money as Margarito. That and Mayweather hated Arum
