As much as some of you may hate to hear it, Margarito has a pretty good point.
There is absolutely no reason this fight should be split 50-50. Margarito should be earning a muuuuuuuuuuuuch larger portion of the cash. We're talking 65-35 at LEAST IMO.
I mean, Mosley hasnt beaten anybody lately, while Margarito has beaten 2 top ten welterweights, one of which was ranked #1 and was THE champion of the division...
Marg v Cotto did not do close to 450k ppv buys, son.
Arum has still yet to release an official number, meaning he does not want that number to be public, because it proves Marg does not have a fanbase.
Wrong. Top Rank doesn't release their numbers till the end of the year. Arum's just a prick. It's pretty much universally understood that it did over 400K.
The problem for Tony wasn't the 50/50 split itself according to an article I saw, it was the figure of 2 million dollars.
Although the split ends up being the problem because of the fact that HBO only put up a certain amount and they are splitting it in half.
Margarito filled the Home Depot center to fight Williams in 07 (before he truly got popular) while Molsey drew a very small crowd in that same venue. Also the ESPN article notes the ppv numbers for the Margarito-Cotto fight at 450,000 which is a solid figure for a non-Oscar, non-heavyweight bout.
All that business aside, it would probably still benefit Tony to take this fight because in the long run it could mean a very good name on his resume and some more notoriety.

if you don't margarito to have all the belts ok fine, he can defend his belt against collazo another top ww under his resume. and i never said he was scared i think your confused since your defending marg against multiple ppl. and your dillusional if you dont think clottey/margarito was close, you can make a case for that fight being a tie or even clottey winning.
like you don't minimize and ignore his stuff, if he cancelled the cotto rematch i bet you would be just fine with that.
Even the most haterist of haters wouldn't call that fight a draw.
Most will say Clottey was winning after 4 rounds, but will concede its a 12 round fight that he lost.
You're just being ridiculous.
All they have to do is bring the numbers to the table; that's why they have a Promoter.
If Margarito's numbers are better than Shane's, then a larger portion of the pie, depending on how much better those numbers are, would go to him {Margarito}.
If, and this is saying Margarito's numbers are better, if Shane/Golden Boy promotions says NO, 50/50 or whatever the number was that Margarito wasn't happy about, then it is OK for Margarito to say "No," even if 2 million is his highest payday...assuming he hasn't made more than 2 million in one fight before.

you could be right and we still haven't heard from margarito. It will be interesting to hear him talk. you know gbp or arum is trying to screw him and if i had to guess it would be GBP.
Yea, I think it could be a little of both. Something tells me Arum isn't 100% behind him, and I can't see their relationship getting any better after this whole ordeal.
Arum's just as much of a greedy little **** as DLH, and he blatantly plays favorites.
Althoug Shane Mosley is much more well known by the caual boxing fan, at this point Margarito draws bigger crowds and probably sells more in PPV (we can't say that for sure either way though). So I do think Margarito is actually the bigger draw. Regardless, I think this is a fight which he could very likely win, a very good name on his resume, and a decent payday. I think he made a mistake in turning it down, and unless he somehow mananges to renegotiate a more lucrative deal to fight Shane, or fights a current Champ for about the same amount or more, I think he is making a mistake. It may not be the most relevant fight, or mosley's prime but it's a worthwhile fight.
Tony needs to keep active and keep his momentum going. Since he rejected this fight he needs to make something better, and not sit out until June, that would be very dumb in my opinion.

Dude with all due respect, cause I do respect you no doubt, but you really think that's the way Tony's thinking right now?
I think he got offended, made a decision that wasn't very well thought out, mostly on impulse, and will regret it. He wants the most money, that is what it's about. He's not that righteous, no one is in this business. He wants the most money, he got offended by the offer and he's thinking "whatever, I don't need that I'm going to make more for the Cotto fight". It's just not good business in my opinion.
If he beats Cotto very convincingly again, and fights Williams, this all goes away no doubt. But if he loses to Cotto, there could be trouble for him...

i thought you were saying he doesn't need to fight clottey because he already beat him. and the belt cotto should have in the rematch he could have gotten in this month instead of a 6 month wait. lol you're the last person to talk about being biased, lol you love margarito, i dont hate him. and clottey won 5 outta the first 6 rounds, saying 3 or 4 is your attempt to degrade his performance, proving your bias in scoring fights with marg in them.
no your wrong i scored williams beating margarito. You always twist things bro, go look up the official scores of clottey fight, look up press row scores, look up boxingscene, yahoo, maxboxing scores, look at punch stats number and if you want to tell yourself that fight was close then more power to you buddy :headbang:
what do you mean not want him to have all the belts? If he fights clottey then cotto and wins he'd have the wba, wbo, and ibf belts what are you talking about? And that clottey fight was not close. because you win the first 3 or 4 rounds doesnt mean you win the fight. who doesnt win the first 3 or 4 rounds against margarito? It was a UD bro come on. The scores weren't even close clottey didnt do shit, margarito broke a compubox number on punches in that fight lets not be to biased please.

it has nothing to do with looking for more money elsewhere. It has everything to do with not accepting a fight where you're being lowballed in. I'd rather make less somewhere else than make more in a fight where you the WW champion of the world got low balled in a fight vs someone that hasnt done shit, looked like shit in his last fight, only brought in 3500 fans or so to the same venue where you brought in 8000 people to fight a no name before margarito had accomplished what he has this year.

It's very simple: Whoever puts the most asses in the seats gets paid the most.
Tom Cruise isn't the greatest actor, yet he has gotten paid like one for the past 20 years. Why? Because he is a "Star" and has appeal that other actors that are much better than him don't have: He can draw both Men and Women to his movies...just like the Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya does.
It's the same with Britney Spears, and all the other little girls that are younger than her that can't sing a lick yet they sell out stadiums and stores can't keep their album on the rack.
It's why Tyson, who peaked with Spinks, continued to make tons of money for the next 20 years.
whoa! e-z buddy, 1st Mayweather is scared of margo.(ha! yeah right) now if thats da case margo. is scared of mosely. plus margo. got his ass handed 2 him in da williams fight & Clottey fight till Clottey hurt his hand...margo only beat Cotto...
yOU DO realize that Margo made more than 2 million fighting Cotto on PPv?
secondly when Marg offered to fight Floyd he was undefeated in 10 years at WW and ranked # 1 in the division and PRIME. and had a title.. Mosley is none of the above.
Also MOSLEY JUST LOST TO SOMEONE MARGO KO'd why should he take a 50/50 split??
something seriously wrong w/ you.
Waiting on the Clottey hurt his hands excuse.
its not an excuse...u know da truth, margo has no skill & the 2 best @ 147 right now is Williams & Clottey. plus mosely fought the better opponents.
As much as some of you may hate to hear it, Margarito has a pretty good point.

he fought 1 round in ten months leading up to clottey. 6 rounds in 20 months leading up to clottey, had an injured ankle and STILL beat clotty by UD.
after the Cintron fight.. he had one round w/Gomez before fighting Clottey
was about an 18 month span between the end of the Cintron fight and the Clottey fight.
Yes, w/an injured ankle just two weeks prior.

Less then one round in 15months.

first of all you said "tie" instead of "draw"..so we know you dont know what the heck your talking about ..
Second, losing a fight 8 rounds to 4 or 7 rounds to 5 isnt a "tie" ...lol
that's the problem with you people! You guys always come up with an excuse or twist things. You guys say margarito is scared to fight people, we tell you he already fought the guys you list. When you say he doesn't want to face someone that will beat him, we tell you he's fought more top 10 ww's than any other ww. Then you come up with an excuse as to why they dont count. Relax on the hate bro!! Like them being a champion means something now lol Their the same fighters. margarito beat clottey when margarito had a year lay off, only fought like 5 rounds in two years, on an injured ankle and at this point you think margarito is scared to fight him again? margarito beat him a fight that wasn't even close! it was UD for margarito what makes you think clottey could do better against a much improved fighter?

LOL Great post bro. I agree with you totally on this. Haters always look for the smallest things and blow it up.
