Dan Rafael says the fight has to happen. Although I hate that fat idiot he makes some good points in his blog. Calzaghe pulled out of a fight with Johnson three times. Johnson brutally knocked out a Roy Jones Jr. who was gamer than the Jones Calzaghe faced and Calzaghe only managed to get a wide decision. For Calzaghe nuthuggers that defend their fighter by saying Dawson hasn't been proven, that case cannot be made for Glen Johnson who has been in many battles and was fighter of the year in 2004. And in my eyes Johnson beat Dawson 6 rounds to 5 with one round even in their fight in April. Power and determination vs. speed and intelligence. Good fight.
If I was Joe I would not fight Johnson. He is an old guy so joe will get limited credit even if he deserves it and Johnson is never an easy fight.
If Joe is going to fight again Dawson or Hopkins do more for his resume.
Why does everyone always play Calzaghe as the victim? Of course a win over Johnson means a lot, he is not Lacy but former ring lhw champion with one of the best resumes in boxing.
Hes also 40 years old . We all know that will be played up if Calzaghe were to beat him. Best resumes? Are we counting defeats now?

Yeah of course, but they both can happen perhaps.
It means a lot less than a few other fights out there.
WHo's saying they wouldn't want to see it? I wouldn't mind, but lets not kid ourselves another Calzaghe victory would prove anything.

Because Dawson-Calzaghe would probably be more competitive, and more exciting.
Yeah of course, but they both can happen perhaps.
I'm not saying Johnson would win, but it would be a tough fight and Johnson has a chance...more so then than now; I think he is almost 40 now. Dawson might be the better choice of fight for promotion but maybe Johnson has a point with him already having fought in England.
I like that Johnson is tough and does land some decent shots to the body; it's one way to slow a fighter down.
Are you saying Frazier couldn't beat Calzaghe? ;)
I think Calzaghe gets away with a lot because he was fighting at 168. Could you imagine if he moved up to 175 and had to be compared to the top guys all time? I think Moorer would have taken him out...as well as many others. But it is kind of unfair to ask him to have moved up, even though he did end up at 175 to face 43 year old former middle Hopkins and former 154 ;) shot Roy Jones jr.
Hagler didn't move up; so I'll give Joe that.
If your argument is that this would be a fun fight to watch then I'm in total agreement. Wouldn't be in my Top 5 wish list for a Calzaghe last fight though.
Should Calzaghe have moved up earlier? Probably. Lots of reasons though and not all of them boxing related - his personal life was a mess 4 years ago.
joe has nothing to prove been at the top for ten years. Should just retire cant be doing with these people who say there going to retire then dont. all because the money is too good.
Legacy wise, he accomplished what he needed to at 168; for 175, a fight with Dawson would help him set something...maybe a spec.

Either.
Look, it'd be competitive. Of course it would be - every Glencoffe fight is. But if you think the style to cause Calzaghe is a come-forward pressure fighter you haven't seen any of his fights - they're absolutely tailor made for him. That's why Hopkins made him look like shit.

Why wouldn't anyone want to see this fight since it should have already happened and this would be one of the last few chances.

This fight dosent have to happen at all..
Its a pathetic attempt from Joe hatas to wanna see him beat and there so desperate they reckon Johnson is the man to do it...

Doesn't have a chance now or then?
A style that might cause Calzaghe problems is a person that can keep up with the punch-out-put of Calzaghe. Remember Tarver vs. Johnson; that was some fight.
Calzaghe's defense isn't exactly "great"; it's his offense that works like the blades on a Lawn-mower: when you turn the engine on, it starts chopping non-stop. But, what happens to a Lawn-mower when you stick something hard enough in-between those blades? It goes down.
{There's a joke to follow but I'm just setting it up for someone else}
Either.

They're wrong. Johnson pulled out once, Calzaghe twice.
It would have been fun. Glencoffe doesn't have a chance of course - absolutely tailor made for Calzaghe. Let's not fool ourselves - this is still the man that lost to Clinton Woods twice and even dropped a rare fair decision to Ottke.

According to Dan Rafael of Espn and Glen Johnson it was three times. Two hand injuries and a back injury.

Two times (apparently due to injury). Johnson was lined up to fight Calzaghe after he beat Clinton Woods, but Johnson lost to Woods and so Johnson vs. Calzaghe was written off. Calzaghe publicly supported Johnson before the Woods fight and actually seemed like he was looking forward to fighting Glen.

the question should be is glen johnson old enough to get a fight with calzaghe and is he shot enough?
