A heavyweight nightmare in December?
Hasim Rachman connects with a lucky punch. And we will have to wait a half-year or a year for the return bout. And nothing else happens to the IBF/WBO titles during 2009.
Evander Holyfield grubs and holds to steal enough rounds against Valuev. And we will have to wait a half-year or a year for the return bout or Holy facing Chagaev. And nothing else happens to the WBA title during 2009.
And what will Vitali do. Wait for Valuev who is his wish (another spell as champion in recess?). In the meantime Gomez can go another couple of WBC title eliminations (not uncommon that an elimination is followed by an … elimination; promises are not always promises in the world of the alphabets).
Worse than having two bros. sharing the ‘world’ belt (worse as they will never clash), would be Rahman and Holy as division rulers by the end of this year. Great fighters they have been, but the underline is have been. It would be an all-time low for this weight class, and boxing fans will dream of the glory days back in the 1930’s when Carnera ruled the world.
Let’s pray Dimitrenko do look good on Saturday, that Haye do look good on Saturday, and that (talkin’ about Nightmare) Arreola do look good on Nov. 29. And that Povetkin doesn’t go anywhere near the dark and dangerous woods of Kursk.
So that one or two them will put some pressure on the title holders. And so we get a ‘world’ heavyweight bout to look forward to in 2009.
PS. Also, keep an eye at Denis Boytsov vs. Vinny Maddalone, Saturday. Interesting match up.
Checkin’ out the European dailies, several of them report that Holyfield shows early signs of being punch-drunk. They also call the promoters of this fight as being unscrupulous, greedy bastards. And before the arrangers have found a suitable name for the contest, they (the dailies) have already labelled the fight “The Freak Show”.
I don’t know how much truth there are in these reports. But it’s worrying when a lot come up with the same conclusion. Still, it’s a fight not requested by the average boxing fan.

I hope The Rock KO's that glass jawed ******. I am tired of watching jab his way throw fights and I rather watch two flys fcuk then watch Wlad fight. As for the 7 foot wonder of the world well he belongs in a circus rather the a boxing ring. Don King nick named him Kong well he has enough hair on his back to qualify as a giorilla. Now I am italian and we have some hairy backs so for me to say that you know he got too much hair on that back of his. reminds me of a 7 foot George The Animal Steele. All that is missing is him ripping into a turnbuckle and the green tounge. Vitali is the real goods and I wouldn't mind seeing him fight some good competition. As for the Rock and Holy well if they won and they fought to unify at this point with both of their skills diminshed it might be an entertaining bout I mean what could be more boring then watching Wlad get yelled at by Manny in his corner telling him how boring he is to watch? I aint hatin on Wlad just tellin it how it is....Lefty
Holyfield and Rahman are done winnin meaningful fights. this shit won't happen. And at this point, not a lot of people care about HW anymore. There's enuf action elsewhere in boxing that the shit about not havin an UD HW champ is done bein really important imo.
