boxing has a certain fanbase. I got into boxing because I appreciate the skill involved. top boxers have an incredible amount of skill to the point where it's almost superhuman.
Top MMA fighter's don't. they are street fighters, good street fighters, but not anywhere on the level of a proffessional boxer. Which is why we saw Anderson Silva get his ass taxed in his boxing career. He found another outlet called MMA and he's happy.
MMA is dieing, not boxing, MMA basically just took on the WWE fanbase and it's not going to get any bigger. Boxing will always have a world wide varied fanbase because of it's class and the skill involved. MMA in general is for meatheads, skinny white frat boyz who like to drink beer and buy tons of suppliments to get big. Brock Lesnar is their Mascot.
It's a common tactic used by many mma personalities to justify their criticism of boxing. They will claim how much the love the sport and then rant on about how it sucks and how it's dead.
Dana White can talk about the scumbag boxing promoters all he wants, but this is a guy who has threatened to blacklist any mma fighter who agree's to sign for some computer game with EA sports.
This is a guy who released one of his fighters because he wouldn't sign a lifetime contract to allow his name and likeness to be used in all future ufc merchandise. The guy was only re-hired again when he did sign the contract.
I agree it's dying slowly. It has been dying slowly for the past 300 years during which people have always said that boxing is dying. I'm sure it'll be dying slowly for the next 300 years too.
i hate to come out of my face, but fuck dana white, and his little bullshit mouth. he's a cunt, and no one give 2 ****s about that asshole.
exactly!!!!! Boxing will never die. It can cause so much antisipation and see saw drama. I for one hate MMA with a passion
what exactly was the point in bumping this? hasnt dana or some ufc guy said that same damn line EVERY year?
yea...but I was looking at the date when he said it, to now and it is alive and well. That is why I chose to bump this thread gob
..." I don't hate boxing, I grew up boxing."
He is on ESPN's Jim Rome right now...thoughts?
dana white needs to just pay attention to his ufc and mma stuff as far as i am concerned...
"mixed Martial Arts" Is A Slogan Name Created On The Internet Through Polling.
Before That The Sport Was Called Nhb Or No Holds Barred. In The Era You Referenced It Was Called Pankration.
There Were Also Challenge Matches And Catch Wrestling Fights Going On All Along.
None With The Lame Ass "mma" Name Historically
Lol!!!!!!!!!
We can co-exist. I, for one, don't prefer the UFC, MMA or any other name over boxing. Boxing has always been my first "contact sport" of choice but I won't undermind the likes of the UFC. People like Dana White, however, coming out and trying to put down one sport and build his own is just sad. It really shows you, when you think about it, who is king. I think Kimbo exposed the truths in that debate lol. (I know he wasn't UFC but it still gets my point across.) There will NEVER, I REPEAT NEVER, be a UFC fighter who is so beloved to the extent of an Ali, Louis, etc. etc. The history is too rich in boxing to be overshadowed in the longrun by a newcomer such as the UFC. All that said, my original statement holds true, we can co-exist.
Boxing has been around for hundreds of years.
UFC has been around since 1993.

Even the MMA fans in this thread would admit that Dana White is a prick. BTW Boxing will never die and if MMA keeps growing then neither will it. I dont see why people can't like both. The only thing that turns me off the sport is the humping on the floor.
I'm kinda excited about the fight with Brock\Coture...The UFC is growing on me( I'm still a bigger boxing fan though) I've been watching it every since Forrest Griffin won TUF....Griffin and Bonner was one hell of a fight and I think I've been trying to keep up with since...I will tell you this though..that card that is set Dec. is going to be one for the ages!
Oh, no doubt. Everyone's reved up for it.
there is no reason MMA and boxing can't co exsist, they draw from different audiences and those that moved from boxing to MMA usually watch both not one exclusively.
The only "Sport" hurting from MMA is WWE (sport lol)
Thank ****ing God for some intelligence in this thread
Yep. It was.
If Brock was someone else he'd be facing Velesquez or Carwin right now.

Brock was dominating Frank Mir until Mir caught an ankle lock and submitted him.
