The Final Fight Of Roy Jones Jr.

Hey guys Im new here and dont want to cause a stir :pat: I watched the Jones Calzaghe fight with a lot of disdain and sorrow for Roy Jones, I still have the nagging belief that all Calzaghe achieved on Saturday was another win over a shot legend to add to a list of victories comprising of journeymen and average fighters. Am I being out of order here? Also I may get slaughtered for this but I also felt that Joe was very lucky against the B-Hop and felt he flailed his way to a bunk decision. Ok Im prepped for my lynching I have that same nagging feeling. But it was a good win. He won....its not like he was fighting Ronnie Puckleaf. lol ya know?

johnson and tarver are the only 2 people roy should fight Roy vs. tarver vs. johnson triple threat match.... Calzaghe as the referee...:boxing::headbang:

Roy Jones Needs To Retire I'm a Roy Jones Jr. fan but he sold me, his fans, and the fight as if he was back to his old self. He promoted a music video did 24/7 on HBO that showed him preparing with all his supporters. Roy Jones is a shot fighter that was shot by Tarver and damaged by Glen Johnson. His weight loss from Heavyweight to Light-Heavyweight was done foolishly by starving himself instead of working it off in the ring. He has paid a price that has killed his CONFIDENCE which in turn has created a SELF DOUBT within himself. Roy knows that he is DAMAGE GOODS as a fighter, but has used his name to keep himself afloat the boxing scene with hopes of getting everyone to believe that he is the Roy Jones of old. Roy Jones supporters that are close to him (Coach Merk, Family, Friends, and Overall Big Roy) need to tell him that he is not the SAME FIGHTER AND IS EMBARASSING HIMSELF AND THE SPORT at this stage of his career despite the strain that could come to their personal relationships. I know I will get feedback on this, but true Roy Jones fans are thinking what I'm saying. Much Respect due !!!!!

yeah, im not really a bandwagon type dude... roys my guy, and always will be... he could get KOed cold in his next fight.. and ill still rep him to the death... if he wishes to continue fighting ill support him and wish him the best.... hopefully ill go to it Yeah, you gotta support the man, regardless of what he does. I don't know if u remember but a few months out from the Joe fight I said Roy was almost totally shot and had no chance against Joe. Over time the constant Roy propaganda got to me though and sure enough by fight night I was thinking "shit, maybe Roy can do it". Even though in the back of my mind I still thought he would get beat. Yeah, I called Joe as being a horrible style matchup for Roy at this stage of his career before the fight. THat is why I picked Joe to win a semi-wide UD, as he did do. I don't think Roy would beat JT guys. @ Reed and Truth, lets try not to fall into the old trap of letting ourselves get blinded again. Roy is done. Jones needs to RETIRE. he is washed up and doesn't have the killer instinct he use to have. I dont even really care for him anyways. He ducked a lot of fighter and he hand picked his fights. He only fought people that would stand in one spot, which made him look good, because he is very fast. But other then that, look at him when he fought Tarver, and Glen Johnson. He got KO'd. And he got embarrassed by Calzaghe, and i hate Calzaghe. I wanted Jones to win, but he just is all talk, like he has always been. And everybody says he beat Hopkins, yes he did, but he did it when hopkins wasn't hopkins. Hopkins would destroy him from the years 1995- on up. i actually do... taylors defense is EHH... he doesnt throw near the amount of punches ... and hes not really a work rate fighter... he wants to box you... i like roys chances in that He could beat Taylor if Taylor fights a slow paced match. If Roy gets respect from Taylor, he could win. But I think Taylor will look at what Glen Johnson and Calzaghe did. Plus Taylor is 10 years younger...I don't know....

I want him to retire now. This notion that Roy needs a farewell fight is flawed IMO. It's the fans(including me) not wanting him to retire and don't want to see him leave the sport because of what he has given to us over the last decade or so. I didn't want Roy to call it a day after a loss, but that fight with Calzaghe was enough for me to say ''Roy, you were damn good and i'll miss ya, but it's time to hang em up!''

I agree with you. In retrospect, Joe was a bad style match up for Roy at this stage. I just don't know man, I wish he'd just retire, he can't get any better. And hes already accomplished everything and made his money. I think its time Roy focuses on Roy III and his 4 other children. I'll support RJJ when he fights again, as always.. Roy's reflexes aren't what they once were. Shots will have a much easier chance of getting in on him than they would have when he fought Ruiz. And the risk of that is hardly worth the potential reward.
