ROY JONES JR: MY CUTMAN DROPPED THE BALL, HAD HE DONE HIS JOB, I WOULD HAVE WON!
By G. Leon
"There's no doubt I would have won, and I'd fight him in Wales to prove it!"
GL: Can you give us some thoughts on your performance and tell us what went wrong? "A lot didn't go wrong, I faced adveristy I never faced before and my cutman wasn't really up to par and not ready for the task at hand. He didn't really give me the best chance to win. In this sport you have a team and in this case, my team, mainly my cut man didn't do his job. I think he was in shock because he never seen me like that before and I never put him in exposure like that but it's all good. You have to move forward and do better than that from now on"
I'm as big a Roy Jones Jr. fan as you can find. But I don't want Calzaghe vs. Jones II. I either want Roy to retire or fight a fringe contender in farewell match.
hahah if Roy ever decided to throw hands in that fight he could have won... that was his biggest problem (that and landing when he did throw) no the cut, which i know could have affected his accuracy but he was having trouble even before the cut
I'm surprised to hear this. Roy sounded very gracious after the fight. And I found him quoted saying this:
"He won the fight, he definitely won the fight," Jones said. "Those pitty pat punches he throws were a little harder than I thought. I couldn't see out of my left eye. I don't know what's next for me. I worked so hard for this fight. I just don't know. I couldn't figure him out."
thats exactly what im tellin u...
, your killing me right here.
You actually just read through that, and said yes, that's what I'm saying. The profoundness in your failed logic is intense. :alcoholic:
I think alot of yall fail to realize what roy prolly was doing... his game plan was most likely to wait til the later rds to try to catch joe, but with that cut being like that...... that ****ed up that plan...... so its like he wasnt doin shit at first, and then when he was suppose to start picking it up, he had the cut...
he lost the fight.... simple as that, but I can hear where he is coming from
Not much of a game plan. Saying as to how everyone knows Calzaghe doesn't get tired, if anyone was going to get tired it would be Roy. He was supposed to win the early rounds and try to steal a few rounds the second half of the fight if he wanted a chance to win. JMO.

Jones with sliding stamina over recent times and in the latter part of a fight. He hasn't KO'd in some 6ish years as HBO clearly listed. Even then he isn't known for waiting out til the end then KOing. He is a pretty good tactician and knowing what opponents strengths are.
Your telling us he was intentionally getting hit, waiting til the later rounds for Joe to tire (even though he never does) and KO a guy whom never tires and has a very tough chin, when he'd be more tired at that point!?
You absolute muppet.
Honestly the cut probably played a role in him losing as badly as he did. but i don't believe that was the whole problem obviously....the cut was caused by a punch i believe, right? so that proves it was more roy's reflexes slowing that was the biggest problem.
But he wasn't hitting himself persay. His gloves were being punched into his own face lol.
yeah eactly... i dont disagree... i was jus makin an observation
Ok, youre probably right, I never looked for that sort of thing, I dont doubt thats what happened. I dont hate on Roy, wish he would have won.
yeah like i said, im not makin any excuses for what happened saturday... i just remember him talking after Tarver I... saying a lot of the swelling from his eye was because when he was on the ropes blocking with this gloves... tarver was hitting his gloves and making roys gloves hit him around the eye...
so in the joe fight i was kinda watching for it, especially when joe would flurry, and roy would block a lot of them... his own gloves were still hitting him, i could see it happening... thats all i was saying though..
The cut didn't happen until round 7. Roy had lost at least 5 rounds at that point. This is the most ridiculous article.
Why is it almost all Calzaghe's opponents think they could have won? Happens all the time!

If so then who's fault is it, Roy's own fault. Also there is no excuse to not let your hands go when Calzaghe is standing in front with his hands down. Thats called shot pretty much, same thing that Evander does at this stage.
dude im not disagreeing with u lol or defending roy, or making up excuses as to why he lost... i merely said, some of the swelling was do to his own gloves hitting himself...
Lol swelling from his own gloves, you truely are a Jones fan to the death. HBO showed when the actual cut happened, must be hard to digest man.
thats why i said swelling next to it... i know the cut was from a punch and from the swelling.. im also not saying joes fists didnt have a lot to do with it... but part of it WAS roys gloves hitting himself... u can watch it happen in the fight... it happened in tarver I, u can watch it there as well
not really.. this was a huge fight. and his cutman did in fact fucck up... really bad... no vaseline no nothing...
Yes I agree he fukked up bad, at one point I even thought Roys corner was trying to make the doctor stop the fight because I didnt see them doing much to the cut. With that said, He had only won one round decisively and maybe one more that could have gone either way before the cut, and I think we all could see what direction the fight was headed before the cut even happened you could see what fighter was slowing down. It's just I figured Roy would put the responsibility for losing the fight a little more on himself instead of pointing fingers. This is denial, borderline delusional
If he carries on with this talk, I can see as many big names speaking out at Joe to retire, as for Jones if not way more. This could turn into a big thing in the press over the coming months. I hope Joe and Hops keep to their words and don't fight him again. Who does he fight and how well does it go down, not well for anyone. Would Johnson take it? He's desperate and called Jones out in 07. Doesn't bare thinking about.
Johnson would definitely take it although he called Roy shot in his last interview (after the Calzaghe fight).
He doesn't have much faith in Dawson giving him a rematch.
Am not having a dig at you reedickyaluss mate but Vaseline does jack shit to stop a cut from bleeding. All the other fighter has to do is jab at the cut and the Vaseline is gone and you're bleeding again.
Carry on.
i do disagree... i think vaseline DEFINITELY helps to coagulate a cut in between rounds... i understand that when u get hit again it can start bleeding again... but surely that doesnt mean u dont do it just because...
a lot of the damage from roys eye (swelling at least) was from roys own gloves hitting him with his guard up... he had the same issue in tarver I... he said his own gloves were hitting him when tarver had him on the ropes
yup thats the site.
I hope Joe won't entertain the idea. Listen like I said, I'm a Roy fan through and through. But his days fighting elite fighters are over. I don't want to see Roy get permanently hurt. I really really don't want to see that...
