I just want to get a measure of how would be able to beat Hopkins at this stage in his career keeping in mind he just dismantled Pavlik and almost beat Calzaghe.
Side Note: This has NOTHING to do with Joe Calzaghe before some start praising and/or claiming this is a nuthugging thread.
Personally I think Calzaghe, Dawson and Taylor are the only ones that have a chance I'm not sure they'd beat him. I know Calzaghe CAN beat him but I'm not entirely sure whether he would in a rematch.
I'm not sure who else would beat him besides from Taylor and Calzaghe, who have both beaten him, I'm not even sure if those 2 would beat him if they fought again.
Dawson would not get schooled by Hopkins
Hopkins has trouble with speedy fighters and Dawson is one of the fastest fighters in the sport..
Dawson would outpoint Hopkins like Taylor did..
Hopkins is 43 years old, (turning 44 in January) he hasn't fought someone who would expose him yet. Hopkins in his prime (1995-2004) was a monster, his fights against Antwun Echols and Tito Trinidad proved that. But what people don't realize is that his "physical" skills have declined sharply since 2005.
In 2005 he fought an ugly fight against Howard Eastman and later that year he would lose to Jermain Taylor twice. To say that Hopkins can beat any good young fighter is far-fetched. Pavlik has obvious weakness that was easily to exploit, I mean a 43 year old Hopkins is faster than Pavlik. I say he would lose to Kessler, Dawson, Lucian Bute, Glen Johnson, and even Arthur Abraham.
Hopkins has not suddenly turned into Henry Armstrong he will still get tired its just that the Pavlik fight was not a hard paced fight and Pavlik stood infront of him not punching and offering no defence what so ever
Hopkins will still tire and lose to most of those guys imo allthough im not sure any of those guys would beat Hopkins in his prime
He would lose to Kessler, Abraham, Sturm, Mundine, Bute, Andrade, Froch, Taylor etc?
I doubt it, I still think even at this age he'd beat all those guys maybe even Taylor at 175.

I'm really not sure Dawson or Kessler at this stage, have the experience or ring intelligence and tactics to grind out a decision against Hopkins. They just look too confused faced with a relentless experienced guy. Kessler in Joe, Dawson in Johnson. Possibly in a few years though.
I'd say both Taylor and Calzaghe both roughly the same. I think both would beat him prime for prime actually, less so Taylor - now doubt I'll get shot for saying that but let's actually back it up...
Hopkins biggest weapons against those guys and in particular Calzaghe, was experience, immensley good boxing brain, tactics, defence, countering and slickness. He always had those things but to a greater extent when he faced them. So prime for prime he might be more active but with those attributes slightly lesser I think it'd favour Taylor slightly, certainly Calzaghe more.
It would be a deserved shooting.

A surprising one might be AA. He covers up well, is as tough as nails, a little un predictable and could lash out and change the fight catching Hopkins in a one off like no other could. Unlikely though, just he's that un predictable with it even Hopkins could get caught out.
Obviously Taylor given that he has already beaten him twice. And obviously Joe also.
I would also give Dawson a very good shot.
Other than that I would favour BHop by a reasonable margin over everybody else. Kessler may give him a very good fight though.
