Im watching his fight and he looks like the Roy that fought Calzaghe, except Harding isn't pressuring Roy even half of how much Cal did.
Before Tarver, too many people respected Roys power.
just going off the topic of the thread to answer the question.....
yes i think roy was in his prime them, but i also think that he was bored with boxing at that time. he had a bit of a time with harding, he was winning but he was getting hit and harding was making it a fight until he tore his bicep muscle............
but at that time in roys game i think he was on top for such a while that he was bored with fighting a little bit.........
I sparred Eric many, many round and believe me, he could PUNCH, despite having less than 10 KO's on his recrd...I was talking to a guy just the other day who did pads for him later in his career and he said Eric was the hardest puncher on the pads he had ever worked for
I thought Jones had slipped a little by that point, his feet weren't as quick as they used to be and it also showed that he had problems with tall southpaws.
You sure it wasn't a rib, guess im wrong. Tarver beat the crap out of Harding 2nd time around.
He didn't beat the crap out of him at all in the rematch, and actually if i am remembering right Harding was ahead on all cards at the time of the stoppage. Harding left himself vulnerable and ran right into a counter left hand and he never recuperated.
YOUTUBE him versus Paz, Stackhouse, Byrd, Serwano, etc etc...the explosiveness and ferociousness he exhibited back then has been missing for a minute now...
Harding broke Tarver's jaw en route to a comfortable UD.....
He was pretty much handling Tarver in the rematch for 5 rounds till he ran into a big punch.....that Tarver is one lucky mother****er......

You guys should see the Harding v. Roy and Cal v. Roy back to back.
If people remember the Harding fight you'll also remember how some people wanted them to rematch. Harding broke Tarvers rib or ribs. Most had thought Harding gave Roy one hell of a fight.

Yes he was, and if i am remembering right that was the last fight that Jones had before he went up to heavyweight, and Eric Harding was his mandatory. Jones was prime, its just that Harding was a very good southpaw boxer and unbeaten at the time. Jones was hesitant, but on on the cards i believe he won most of the rounds. Harding was a good counter puncher even though he couldn't punch. He was the first to beat Tarver as well.
To me Tarver deserves the credit... he started it all as he SAID he would...he called it as it was...but Johnson IMO won every second of every round...Roy was totally not himself, though, and obviously hasnt been since the night he beat Ruiz
The Glenn Johnson fight should have been good enough. Glenn's victory over Jones was greater than the rest.
yep that is by far the worst Jones has ever been beat before...
it was the only full fight footage I could find on youtube.
I didnt think there was a huge difference between the Jones against Hanshaw and the one against Calzaghe. its one of the main reasons I didnt think Roy stood a chance against Calzaghe.

Roy was much better against Joe than he was against Hanshaw, don't be stupid...

I wonder why: BEACUSE ROY HAD POWER AND SPEED.
When he fought Tarver, one, I admit, Tarver didn't respect Jones which helped, but Roy looked like a GHOST.
A forearm shot put him down.
It would have stopped a lot of fighters.
Have you ever FOUGHT?
Have you ever been hit with a Forearm {the front part, not the back}?
I have...it's nowhere near the same as being hit by a punch.
