What do you all think? He made 21 straight defenses of his WBO Title and unified it with the IBF by beating Lacy. Then he unified his WBO belt with the WBA and WBC by beating Kessler. He was the recognized 168 pound champion i believe. Then he then beats Bernard Hopkins to be the recognized 175 champion in the world.
Do you all think he has other fights left to prove himself? Or his legacy sealed?
Chad Dawson or a Hopkins rematch are the only really attractive fights for me but i am not sure if Calzaghe would be interested
would'nt go that far though, to bad for him when he fought anybody they were out of prime, so yea, i dont see calzaghe in the atg list, def in the greatest british boxers list
Kessler?
Or did you mean "American"?
A fight between Calzaghe and Haye makes more sense if you keep thinking about it long enough.
Why not? Joe could make the weight! Haye has done it before and could do it again?
I just cant see it to be honest, haye is too big but maybe with a bit of meat on Joe could but i just cant see it sorry..
i agree, joe missed the ATG boat by waiting for bhop and rjj to become too old. Joe should've beaten them in their primes and when they were on a tear through their divisions. that would've been truly impressive. to date there are still questions. he needs to fight some good fighters in their primes. he's beaten them all at 168, but dawson is a very good true light HW in a very shallow division.
after bhop dismantled pavlik, if calz were to beat hopkins convincingly, that'd be good for his resume too.
None of the fighters would have fought Joe 5 or 6 years ago TBH, He wasnt really a big-name at that time....they probably would have given him the chance to fight them.
lmao yeah maybe fighting Haye would help his legacy lol...........and i love your sig note, Thats mad funny stuff, "Dress up like calzaghe and start beating old people up"?????????????? Thats classic stuff.

Nope. His haters will still rip him for not fightin tougher fights in his prime years but he's done all he can do at this point. He could retire now and nobody can really question him.
he did not do all he could. he could've fought these guys at their bests. his fights with bhop and rjj both have asterisks.
he still has a little more to prove. if he beat dawson, he'd have effectively cleaned out the lt HW division imho. I will be forced to admit calzaghe's greatness if he whupped dawson.
I agree.
Joe certainly has the talent and ability to be a true ATG but he's missed the boat. Once he'd wupped Eubank he should have had the big fights but a combination of lack of confidence, bad hands and wanker warren put paid to that. Now Joe has grown in confidence and stature it's all too late for him. There isn't a legacy fight out there for him, beating B Hop again won't give him that and neither would beating Dawson. Despite lacking real power I think he could and should be remembered as a true great but he lost the chance to prove it and there is nobody around now that will allow him to change it.

Fight David Haye at cruiserweight.

I would like to see him fight Chad Dawson. After that only a possible rematch with Hopkins makes sense. Joe was good last night and put on a good show, but at the same time you wish he could have fought these guys back when they were in their primes and not past it.

For me he could have been an ATG but he isnt, The competition wasnt there for him and he left somethings too late in his career.
I agree.

To beat a prime fighter who is proven
Like who??? Dawson?? Glen johnson??? Diacanu??? Joe Calzaghe is in that Mayweather stage where NO matter who he fights he gets NO credit and people would just say fight this one next until he loses..

calzaghe beats a shot rjj and he no longer has anything to prove??? please!!!
he needs to make atleast 2 fights imho. fight dawson. rematch bhop. and if he really wants to be great fight glen johnson who he ducked.

honestly, nah man, there aint much for cal to prove anymore, he came into boxing at a bad time, everyone is old and shit, but i gotta give it to him, he did what he could :rofl:
