I'm not a Calzaghe hater. Anyone that's seen my posts about him knows that I've been very impressed since the Lacy fight. I just can't shake that Calzaghe didn't beat Hopkins or Jones until they were well past their primes. It's like seeing Kobe and the Lakers dismantle Michael Jordan and the Wizards. Impressive, um, I guess, but it just didn't feel the same because MJ was so far out of his prime. I'm not trying to disregard the biggest wins of Calzaghe's career, I just think that if he thought he could perform that well against Hopkins and Jones in their primes, he should have fought them years ago. I want my money back.
You guys are acting like Calzaghe's in his late twenties. He is a contemporary of B-Hop and Roy. He called this is last fight - he has 45 fights already. If Roy had won, would people be saying Joe was past his prime? JUY JUY had said Joe C was past it two years ago on this board...

when exactly was hopkins prime? when he lost to jones?
you should have a problem with jones and hopkins as they were the reason for the fights not happening
He was magnificent in his recent fight against Trinidad.
He was effective, I don't know about "magnificent". Any boxer with mobility would look great against Tito these days.
Trinidad took the jones fight for the paycheck, and judging from roy's performance against JC on saturday, it seems he only showed up for the money as well.
I don't even know why I paid for the fight. I'm gonna stop wasting money on disappointing PPV's. I think I'm passing on DLH vs. Pac as well.
You're a hater it was an excellent fight even if you don't like calzaghe. The dude just kept smacking roy around like a rag-doll.

Yeah, that was a very lackluster fight, I'd like to say I won't buy dlh/pac, but I know I'll end up doing it.
There are no excuses for Roy. He was magnificent in his recent fight against Trinidad. He was ready for Joe C. And, who really dodged who "back in their primes?" There is much evidence to conclude that Roy could have made that fight...if he had wanted to.
There are no excuses for Roy. He was beaten and beaten soundly. Calzaghe was always the man to beat....and nobody ever has. Calzaghe is going to the Hall of Fame is will be considered one of the best that ever lived, whether you like it or not.

obviously calzaghe waited until rjj and bhop looked vulnerable to seriously make fights with them.
warren may have had something to do with it too, but its truly sad that calzaghe doesn't get full credit because he didn't bother to fight these guys in their primes.
He stepped his own game up toward the end of his career which is respectable. He owned the younger guys like Kessler and Lacy. The Hopkins fight was dull and disputed, but he got that win and followed by takin down Roy who looked better than he had in years. His res would look better if he'd faced B-Hop and Roy years back but he should still get cred for it.
Warren has a record of demanding to much for his good fighters, he doesn't get the deals because he wants to milk the most out of a deal and US promoters hate dealing with him.
Hatton and Calzaghe both had to ditch hom to get big fights in the states and you will see that repeated over the next few years when all the good Uk amatures turn pro, hopefully at least a couple will sign with Maloney rather than Warren.
Nope they will all sign for Warren, This guy knows how to make them millionaire fighting against bums in a caravan.....If you're an aspiring boxer who is just in it for the money warren is the best promoter for you in this world...
As in Warren was the one keeping him away from Jones and Hopkins years ago?

So although Hopkins beat a PRIME UNDEFEATED DOUBLE WORLD CHAMPION with a record of 34-0 (30ko). After his fight with Calzaghe, Calzaghe doesn't get credit from the win?
Please don't be a nuthugger, I already said I wasn't trying to downplay the significance of his wins over two sure shot hall of famers. Of course he gets credit,

I wanted Jones to win, but given Jones' shotness, I expected Calzaghe to beat him even worse than he did. Not to take anything away from Joe, he's a great fighter. This win, and the one vs. Hopkins just doesn't do much for me. Had Pavlik beaten Hopkins, I'd say the same thing about him.
