Theres not 1 person here who can honestly say that Jones fought as if he wanted to win. Calzaghe fuking clowned him! He stood in front of Jones with his hands down to taunt him. It was as if Calzaghe was like "u cant do shit, here's my chin" Jones was an embarrasement tonight for us Americans.
Listen dopey! Hopkins showboated against a terrified out of his depth frozen Pavlik yet no-one is saying give PAvlik a rematch to get his cred back. Hopkins could NEVER fight like that against Calzaghe because he is simply not fast enough. A decent referee would have stopped Hopkins holding, and Calzaghe would have toasted him. Calzaghe by the way is 36 nearly, so he is also past his best - what would HE have done to hopkins in HIS prime? Ask yourself that. In his prime, Calzaghe didnt have hand problems either, and would have taken Hopkins out completely.omg, ur the first person to mention what joe would of been like in his own prime.
everyone just says "roy in his prime, bernard is his price etc etc" like joe
targetted these guys when they were old and he was young haha
good post
He eye was only bad for the 2nd half of the fight. For the first 7 or 8 rounds he was OK, but he still only won the first 2 rounds IMO. I'm a massive RJJ fan so it killed me watching that last night, especially staying up until 6am to watch him get clowned and do **** all about it.
Calzaghe deserves credit but for some reason I just can't like him. When he was shaking his arse and shit last night I was praying Roy would lay him out.
I'd say he's P4P#1 right now but it annoys me how he beat a 43yr old Hopkins & 39yr old shot to shit Roy Jones yet he acts like he's beat them when they were in their prime.
If Hopkins fought against Joe the way he did against Pavlik he would annihilate him.

All this fightproved is that Roy had NOTHING left..Cazaghe knew it and took advantage of him and beat the shit out of him
which is pretty lame
joe looks like the type that talks that gracious crap but is probrably talking all types of ish behind closed doors...he seems like a rat...funny style cat
I completely disagreee with the post. Early in the fight whenever Roy tried to get aggressive and counter off Joe's attack he got nailed right back. Roy has never experienced getting beat to the punch like that with consistency and he didnt know what to do. Also as he said in his corner to his trainer. His trainer said throw the straight right hand, and Roy said, " He keeps ducking them"
Had Roy gotten even more aggressive despite getting consistently beaten to the punch he would have gotten knocked out. His punches were to slow and Calzaghe could see them coming a mile away and was able to counter right back with ease.
People have to understand, its hard to go all out when your being overwhelm with the speed and work rate of Calzaghe. Roy was just a shell, literally a shell of his former self.
the saddest part is when roy went back to his corner blood streaming from his eye, and he told coach merk I just can't get him.(or something like that)
I remember the days when roy could get anybody at anytime.
i dont think roy went all out at all
i think he could have sat on some punches and pushed calzone back also he could have kept his hands up to avoid the cut as he doesnt have the reflexes anymore simply to dodge all punches like neo
I don't see how you can say Roy didn't fight to win. He couldn't do it cuz he was gettin whooped. He didn't look like he was just goin thru motions last nite. he was havin trouble gettin off due to Joe's speed and his eye slowed him down in late rds.
I keep seeing people say that "he tried his best". How is that, if all night Calzaghe was standing right in front of him with his hands at his side, and Jones just covered up against the ropes. Yeah, he tried his best alright.....Tried his best not to get KO'd, but he didnt try his best to win the fight.
Jones never seemed fired up for this fight from the get go. In the 24/7 countdown, he seemed kind've "blah". I dont think he took this fight serious at all.
So tell me guys. What did u see in Jones for u to say that "he tried his best"? Cause to be honest, if a guy isnt throwing any punches, how is he even trying???
Agreed
Jones in his heart thought he was going to win the fight, already in the second round I could tell he couldn't pull the trigger. The later rounds were reminiscent of Ali vs Holmes, sad way to go out for a fighter who before May 5 2004 was untouchable.
Great win for Joe by the way, he did what he had to do and looked amazing at times.
Agreed. Jones just doesn't have the stamina any longer and should retire now.
im sorry i disagree, i have just started boxing and even i was calling how bad this is, calzaghe's balance was terrible and Jones never took advantage. Jones was throwing single shots rather than combos rarely working off his jab and was also backing up onto the ropes giving him a target to hit. all the stupid showboating was ridiculous he gave Calzaghe a target to hit and Joe isnt a dick head he obliged
As I said, age has caught up with Jones, it's signs of old age in a fighter when they can't pull the trigger and/or cannot throw combinations anymore, and Calzaghe always looks off balance, it's just his style, it's much harder to hit him clean than it looks.
I called it during the 24/7 countdown, when Jones mentioned the fact the if he lost, so what. That right there told me that he wasnt taking this fight serious.
exactly, and that he wasn't very confident of winning.
I thought there was something really dodgy about that statement at the time.

I agree completetly with this, at the moment i do respect calzaghe though and whereas before i hated him i dont mind him now
You're discrediting the living legend who is Roy Jones.
Jones did the best he could. A lot of fighters would have quit after that terrible cut.
Jones fought as best as he could at this point.

He could only see out of one eye and had nothing in the tank. He did the best he could IMO, but what what Roy needed last night was a time machine to take him back to the nighties!

I turned the fight off after the 10th! Roy was pissing me off so much. How does he expect to win a fight by leaning on the ropes, getting hit, and not throwing back??
He looked really sharp and fast in round 1, it's just a shame he looked fucking shit for the other 11!!

Disrespectful and pig-ignorant in the same post. Well done!
