Who ya got?
Highly doubtful it will happen. I'll pick the upset and go with Johnson who will not hold onto his punches, though Calzaghe is way better than Clinton Woods.

you are seriously overestimating glen johnson's ability to counter. he waits for his opponent to get his shots off before countering. the shot he caught dawson with in the 10th was a right hand shot, but by no means a counter. calzaghe is way to fast and slick for glen.
He has the ability to block punches while coming forward and he has that catch and counter style. Just look at around the last 10 seconds in the 3rd round of the Dawson fight. He blocked his flurry and countered him with a right hand followed by a left hook. The only reason why he didn't counter after that was because Dawson didn't give him the opportunity, and was more aware after that. Calzaghe and Dawson are completely different. Joe takes more chances than Dawson does so he will be getting hit with those same kind of counters because he is squared up after he throws. Trust me, i have this fight saved to my DVR and i have watched it over 30 times( at least).
I've said that stylistically Calzaghe is bad for Johnson and we saw against Jones how well Calzaghe can get his punches off when his opponents just walk towards him with high hands, which is something Johnson does as well, Johnson waits for his opponents to stop punching before punching back, Calzaghe doesn't stop punching. Calzaghe by clear decision.
Johnson would be letting his hands go and he is much stronger than Jones. Also, Johnson was punching with Dawson, something that hasn't been done before and he countered well.

Johnson didn't have that volume puncher pressure style at that time, he was more of a defense minded boxer who was somewhat slick and a counter puncher, and he was not elite when he did that. That's why he changes his style from that to a pressure fighter and since he has had that style, he has not been dominated.
When Dawson would box, he would have control over the fight. He didn't run into problems until he traded with Johnson.
I see this as being a close fight. Calzaghe would possibly win on his work rate but he would be catching a lot of leather from Johnson, because Joe would need to get his punches off and Johnson would there to counter punch. He showed in the Dawson fight that he has speed himself.

A lacy fight is a good comparison. Johnson is a helluva fighter, unlike Lacy, but his stylistic nightmare is a person who can throw a lot of combos and move just at the right time with the right reflexes.
Dawson tried to do this, but he didn't have the defense and tried to trade with him insted. Hopkins accomplished this and it would be like Hopkins-Johnson for Calzaghe-Johnson imo.

This would look like the Lacy fight.
it might but we know for sure that Johnson ain't there to survive to the 12th and will be throwing punches and not trying to clinch, run, or make it a close fight. It could turn out to be an all out brawl if Calz decides to come forward.
Johnson is a fighter whowould never let Calzaghe set the precident in the fight like Roy did.
Roy, after the Tarver knockout, was never the same fighter. That cockiness, arrogance, and knowing his opponents were going to fight his fight was one of the reasons he was such a dominant champion.
That being said, I think Joe is too quick for Johnson, but I would expect some moments from both fighters in a fairly competitive fight. 116-112/ 117-11ish.
Here's how I see it playing out.
Glenn Johnson puts Joe on his ass in the first round, just mere moments after the opening bell. And Joe rallies back to win a UD.
I'm psychic like that.
Honestly though, Glenn Johnson is about as tough a fighter as you'll find but he doesn't have the speed you need to beat Calzaghe. I see a Calzaghe/Johnson fight unfolding similarly to Calzaghe/Hopkins. Glenn lands the harder, cleaner shots, but gets outworked on the cards.
Though Johnson's stamina is a lot better than Roy and Bernard's.
I don't think Johnson has the handspeed or sneaky skill that both Roy and Bernard used to hurt Joe in the first round. I think Calzaghe would land that harder cleaner shots with Johnson landing next to nothing, Johnson only throws when the other fighter isn't throwing. He fights similar to Joe but with more power and alot less speed, Joe is a much better fighter than Johnson IMO and gives him a boxing lesson.
This would be 12-0 Calzaghe. Seriously bad matchup for Johnson.
Johnson has been robbed a number of times in his career, and I thoughthe beat Woods three times and incidentally on first viewing I felt he beat Dawson, but Calzaghe is all wrong for him.
Johnson would beat him. Calzaghes slaps wouldnt have any effect on Johnson and Johnson is a volume puncher that will have Calzaghe backing up most of the fight and Calzaghe hasnt shown that he can fight good while backing up.

It wouldnt happen but both guys have a similar style, Id go with Joe as he seems to have more stamina at this point over Glen. It would be a great fight though.
Well actually no offense but that's not even close to being true. Johnson hurt Dawson in third round of their fight with a counter right hand followed by a left hook( when Dawson was throwing punches and trying to back him up), and also hurt Chad in the 10th with a huge right hand counter when Dawson was moving back and circling. Johnson is a good counter puncher, and Joe would give him his opportunities with his style because he is going to be there.
ok, i see what you're talking about in the 3rd, but cazlaghe would never be that ridiculous with his agressiveness. dawson was getting careless. however, that punch in the 10th was CERTAINLY NOT a counter by any means. when someone is backing up and circling without punching and they get hit by a right hand, that is just called getting hit by a right hand, not a counter punch. tarver beat johnson by backing him up and throwing punches. and johnson only was throwing when tarver stopped throwing.
bhop didnt let him get off either and johnson could not counter or do anything but get hit. calzaghe's handspeed and footspeed is far superior to johnson's. no way does glen have a shot, especially at this stage in his career.
well johnson ko'd the shot roy jones and calzaghe was almost ko'd by the same shot roy jones. i doubt calzaghe has any real chance to win this fight. johnson won't stop coming forward over some inaccurate slaps.
