I hate it when fighters say this shit, because they rarely back it up.
Peter might be able to pull this out if he can avoid getting KO'd by the much bigger, stronger Bika. He's got to fight smart though or he will end up on the mat.
I never understood why Manfredo fights at 168 anyway; 160 seems like a much more natural weight for him. Hell, he could probably make 154.
whereas Manfredo would struggle to win any belt. The thing with Manfredo is that he will probably always lose to any top five guy and probably never ever win a belt. Those guys are at least capable of winning titles in their respective divisions and are also capable of taking the top guys in their divisions to close fights.
You know the Manfredo/Bika fight is for an IBO strap, right?
i like fredo a hell of a lot more than mora. mora is the one i wish would retire. fredo at least had the balls to go fight joe in wales while mora ran from facing a dream shot at taylor for all his straps! plus peter is not that bad. not a world beater by any means, but he almost beat lacy. i hope he don't hang them up even if he loses.
Fair enough. I'm just saying, pretty much everyone on here who is not Iceman Scully or whatever Asian Sensation is calling himself now will not be on the same page with you.
I go by Asian Sensation these days for the record.
On the subject of Manfredo, I wouldn't call him an A+ fighter because he hasn't done anything to suggest that he's at that level. He certainly hasn't beaten anyone to suggest that he is the elite of the division and that shows in the fact that he hasn't won a world title.
His five losses to Alfonso Gomez, Sergio Mora (x2), Joe Calzaghe and Jeff Lacy represent the five best fighters he has faced.
I do think he gets a bad rap because he's from The Contender and a lot of people think that he's just a made-for-TV hype job. Make no mistake about it, whatever his limitations are he is a real fighter. And that must be respected.
Sakio Bika is probably stronger than Manfredo but Manfredo has the better speed and skill. Bika showed against Codrington that he can be hurt so I wouldn't put this fight past Manfredo just yet.
I believe Manfredo is right there with either Bute or Mundine. As far as the other 3.....thats the best of the best. The elite.
As much as I dislike Mundine and I've seen enough of Bute to comment, Manfredo is not much at all compared to those guys. They are the bottom end of the elite, top guys in the division. In some cases they have at the top of the division they are in with belts, whereas Manfredo would struggle to win any belt. The thing with Manfredo is that he will probably always lose to any top five guy and probably never ever win a belt. Those guys are at least capable of winning titles in their respective divisions and are also capable of taking the top guys in their divisions to close fights. Although it's fun to insult Mundine, Manfredo is about ten tiers lower than even him.
Seriously, I mean no disrespect to you because it seems like you are just trying to stand up for Manfredo and/or all professional fighters, especially those who have reached the upper levels of the sport, but if someone calling a boxer "shit" offends your sensibilities, maybe a boxing forum isn't the best place for you.
My man, Im not offended at all. Just arguing are contrasting opinion, thats all.
I admit I try not to make a practice of labeling a guy that way, but in the context of the upper echelon of the division, the shoe fits. That is not to say I don't respect how far he has climbed in the sport. Hell, in most interviews he even seems like a nice guy. But compared to the Calzaghes, Kesslers, Taylors, Butes, and even Mundines of the world, he doesn't fit.
I believe Manfredo is right there with either Bute or Mundine. As far as the other 3.....thats the best of the best. The elite. Because Manfredo isn't on the level does not mean he iosn't aq good fighter or one of the best even. You're setting the bar to a height very, very few fighters reach.
well i would say he is not in the level of te first 3 you mentioned.....Bute and Mudine???i think theyre not unreachable for Manfredo...
Manfredo is one fight past his expiry date, and could never compete with bute or Mundine (which would be one HELL of a fight). maybe you've had one too many :beerchug:
as much as i love Manfredo, this is a terrible fight for him to take. he's showed time and again how badly he performs vs. pressure fighter who can hit a little...poor him...Bika KO4
But compared to the Calzaghes, Kesslers, Taylors, Butes, and even Mundines of the world, he doesn't fit.

Thats fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I respect that. But what I have laid out are facts. And I have a sneaking suspicion many posters here either choose to ignore, or just don't know the facts before blurting out their opinion. Peace.

Have you ever boxed? If so, what is your world ranking? Im betting you never have and couldn't fathom what its like to even spar with a world class fighter. But yeah, its easy to critcize from behind a keyboard, isn't it?
Give me a ****ing break. This is a boxing forum, we are ALL commenting on the merits and skills of professional boxers, ones we've heard of and seen on tv, so it's a given that they are among the best when considering the entire population of adults in this world, or even the entire population of professional figthers who box in high school gyms, rec halls or bars.
So obviously my comments should be taken in the context of the select group of individuals we are discussing.
And 99.9% of the members on this forum have never boxed/sparred with a world class fighter, so if that were one of the qualifications for posting, this would be a pretty slow discussion board. If you are one of the rare few who have been there, feel free to put me and pretty much everyone else on ignore so you don't have to listen to our inexperienced ramblings.
Now, I will say again that in comparison to the top 3-4 fighters in the SMW division, Manfredo is shit. He doesn't belong there and will never belong there. There is a huge disparity between the top 5 and fighters ranked 10-15. I don't need to have ever boxed professionally to make such a statement. You can disagree with my opinion all you ****ing want, but do not ever question my ability or right to make a ****ing judgement call based on an observation I've made with my own two eyes.
he didnt really mean it like that.. it seemed like be meant like his chances are done, his big money fights are done.. but i could be wrong
and also a lot of ppl underestimate him in this fight...
against joey spina and pemberton he was an animal in his hometown..
and against calzaghe he didnt do bad at all until the 3rd then he got robbed...
and against lacy he was doin good and could have won that fight but didnt believe in his mind, that he could. so mentally ruined himself...
but he always comes back strong, llike against donny mccrary, knocking him out in 3..
and bika who fought the same mccrary took him 5 rounds in the contender and didnt even drop him..
i think manfredo might shock a lotta people this night.

Good post..
That is what we call a Keyboard warrior..

Anyway, I think Manfredo isn't a bad fighter.. With Roach hes pretty good no lies..
He made the Lacy fight close.
Hes a gatekeeper basically.. Good name to have on ur resume. I think hell beat Bika..
Its weird how Calzaghe seems to ruin fighters without actually beating them up whatsoever, he can't punch for shit and the aftermath on fighters after a loss to him has been apparent.
Thats cause they are dazed an dconfused by all the wild punches being thrown around, plus they are embarrassed they lost to a guy that has no power and no accuracy.
He fights like a amature street fighter yet he wins
He makes people like me condradict ourselves
hahahhaa
You are right to a certain extent. But whats relative to one guy might mean nothing to another. For example.....you've talked about fighters that are recognized from tv and how Manfredo compares. You are only seeing the tip of the iceberg with television fighters. I've been to dozens of live cards, seen hundreds of fighters. So my opinion is he is much better than you think, using that as well as tv for my reference points. Is he nothing compared to the Calzaghe's and B-Hops? Sure. But if you were to take every proffessional fighter at 168 and figure out where they rank, Manfredo would be near the top. An A+ fighter, by the percentages. That is a fighter who deserves a little respect in my opinion.

It's just an argument of relativity.
In comparison to all of the fighters who get TV time and are known by the general boxing fan on here, he is not decent. He is actually pretty bad.
Now, in comparison to every boxer in the world, of course he is decent and actually on the brink of world class, but...
Like I said, it's about relativity, and not treating it as such will just cause a ton of confusion.QUOTE]
