I went to the movies last night...As i was watching the movie an interesting idea hit me...
What do we all love here? boxing.
Well i was thinking how cool it would be to watch ppv's at the movies (or a similar venue).
Imagine sitting in a big movie theater...with a HUGE screen...tons of people in there with you...loud surround sound...and it being a ppv fight?
i think its a good idea in theory...they would charge everyone less than the standard $50 you pay at home due to the fact there would be so many people they could charge everyone $10-$15 and its a cross between being at home...and being there live...
just an idea...might be a stupid one...let me know your thoughts.

thanks.

Yea, I voted Good Idea "Italian".
Keep in mind all movie theaters are gonna eventually change though:

But you're a true boxing fan to be thinking about it while your at the theaters - hehehehe

don't know how feasable it would be in now days bussiness climate but would love to be able to pay $10-$15 to watch a ppv. obviously this would benefit ones that don't have cable and people like me who watch ppv streams.
man,be able to bring dij cam and and record.
no drinking allowed but i think they should have smoking section in balcony. and i don't mean just tobac!
at least in california.:burnout:
i buy ppv's when i can afford them...the last ppv's i've bought (that i can remember) are pavlik v. hopkins, mayorga v. vargas and mosley v.cotto...
im going to be purchasing oscar v. pacman.
i dont always have the cash to buy all the ppv's...i mean they are $50 a piece and sometimes it just makes more sense to me to stream online for free...i usually only purchase ppv's when people are coming over (and i refuse to take their money...its a pride thing for me) so i just buy the whole PPV and we watch it...that seems worth buying it...but if im home alone and going to watch it (unless its an ABSOLUTE MUST SEE or a favorite fighter of mine) i just stream it...
so yeah...charging $10-$15 a ticket to watch in theaters would help out those unable to purchase a PPV (money issues) or those who arent 100% ready to commit to spending $50 on a fight that might turn out bogus...
I used to work at the movies like 5 years ago and we had the WWE PPV live in the cinema. They charged like $25 a ticket and it was always packed out. I remember they use to higher this $100,000 projector to pick up the signal live with a satellite dish on the roof. The movies makes money from the Candy shop from popcorn drinks sales and other confectionery, not from ticket sales.
So i see WWE has went in the right direction with this...
I think another problem is that people generally want to drink during sporting events and getting an ABC license would likely be a problem. There are some theaters that do serve food and beer, though.
In fact it would probably be crucial to serve drinks in order to make money as the person above me has mentioned.
Point taken and i agree...i think if alcohol was served at such an event it would do really well...think about at major sporting events from baseball to football to boxing...alcohol is ordered constantly...if this were to take place i really think the money situation wouldnt be hard to overcome...im not very aware of how alochol liscenes work and if there is a special liscene to allow selling of alcohol only as "one time" thing for a specific event...
whatever the case may be i think if you combine boxing and alcohol and a movie theater (or a similar venue) its a win, win...

if they served beer it would be even better, This would be past awesome. I bet we'd see a few fights in the theater.
alcohol included sounds like a plan to me.
;)
That's how PPV exactly works in the Phil. :D

It's a good idea if you don't have a bunch of out on control blacks where you live.
We have a huge bar here that tried doing closed circuit showings and had to shut down after the tinidad/RJJ fights because the brothers would start fights everytime and would never tip the waitstaff.
this is not an original idea, although it may seem like one since you have never heard of this. this has happened before for big fights. for example, the first ali-frazier fight was broadcast on a big screen at the spectrum in philadelphia so that the fighting city could watch with pride as smoking joe beat 'the greatest'. a lot of people, especially those from philly, couldnt afford to go to the real thing at the garden....
I like the concept, Im just not sure how feasable it would be considering how few and far between the great fights are that grab the attention of the general public, and not just us hardcore fans. There are a lot more costs to consider than just the price of the fight.
On a side note..........a few years back I went to a wedding in Jersey city. The hotel we stayed in had a bar with a tv that was like 10 feet high by 25 feet wide (those aren't exact dimensions) and was crystal clear no matter how close you sat to it. We were watching football the afternoon after the reception and it was intense. Like you were actually on the field. I've alway wondered if that place showed fights and how cool it would be to see a fight like that. Probably the next best thing after being there live, but with replay.
exactly...it couldnt be for every fight on HBO and SHO or every PPV but for those major fights that come around once or twice a year...
something like Cotto v. margarito or Mayweather v. De La Hoya...those would have been two huge fights that could have easily be acceptable to be shown in a setting like that...
Pacquiao v. De la hoya in december would be a fight worthy of a theater showing...
i think if they do it once or twice a year for the biggest fights they will get a great turnout in my opinion...
if they were to broadcast EVERY hbo and SHO fight then it wouldnt work and major money would be lost...but to show just the really big fights it would probably be extremely profitable...the theaters would be eager to broadcast such fights due to the fact it makes the major money considering all the promos of movies in theaters and movies soon to be in theaters...selling of food/drinks, plus all the people that turn out to see the fight.
it would be a great thing.

WOW - Simple yet Brilliant! I LOVE the idea!!! :beerchug:
this is what im thinking...
of course the specifics would have to be handled but simply as a concept it seems like a great idea.
its a good halfway point between watching it live and having the comforts of home.

Some places do this kind of thing from time to time, its called "closed cirquit". I remember going to the Providence civic center to see Vinny Pazienza fight. Once his fight was over they showed Tyson-Spinks live on the jumbo screen. It was pretty cool. You don't hear about it happening so much with PPV now. I also went to an invatation only catered event at Foxwoods casino where they showed the DeLaHoya-Trinidad fight on a huge movie theatre screen. That was very cool. The food and booze were flowing with just a couple hundred people. That was a good time.

I actually suggested this idea as part of a marketing/fundraising event for work and it got a positive response, might be in the works. I'd mos def be down for this. Great way to get boxing some more exposure. More people might be inclined to check out the fights at a public venue. Depends on how the pricing would work for tickets.
haha...if that rocks your socks then go for it...
i'd rather watch porn alone or with a girl that im going to have sex with...
not with other men...
U suggested the cinema full of men! lol
Nah boxing at the cinema wouldnt work
Cant have a toke cant get rowdy with the lads there etc..
We do that already in PR... The bad thing is that when you get to the theater it's aready full lol at least for the Cotto fights... I prefer to watch them at home for free and if anyone want to join me, they have to bring beer...
Yeh sounds like a good sunday afternoon to me...
