Vitali- comes back after to boxing after 3 years( i think it was 3) and beats the 2 best heavyweight......dominates actually
hopkins- 43 year old Legend turns the clock back.... humiliates and gives a middleweight a boxing lesson
Well Vitali winning after the lay off can't be disregarded but Peter hasn't looked like a top 5 HW in his last few fights, Hopkins dominated an undisputed champion who was tearing through all that got in his way, a guy 17 years his junior.
Got to be Hopkins.
But you didn't comment on the "Vitali is a nobody" post, Joseph? That poster is obviously racist, but you don't seem to mind. But if I said "Hopkins is a nobody", then you'd call me a racist!
Why the double standard? Shouldn't it work the same both ways?
The difference is that poster didn't bring up the issue of race like you do every day on these boards. Most of the people you call "racist" for not liking Vitali are white themselves which shows how dumb you are. If he hates Vitali so what? You hate Mayweather. Does that make you a racist?
Vitali suprised me the way he handled Peter so I'd give it to Vitali......I expected Hopkins to make this look easy, but I didn't expect Vitali to walk through Peter after 4 calendars away from the game without tasting some real leather.....Hopkins was too good for Pavlik, but Vitali made Peter look like he was over-matched!:boxing:
i cant believe there are 16 people who voted against hopkins on this...
its easily bigger than vitali's win...
come on guys...
this is boxingscene...not the klitschko bangwagon...be serious...yeah the vitali fight provided more entertainment you can argue...but given the circumstances of the pavlik v. hopkins fight it was easily the bigger win.
Unless you are an idiot and a complete racist (Tunney) than Hopkin's win was more impressive. He is much older than Vitali and was coming into a fight where he was a 4-1 underdog. Vitali was favored to win and he was fighting a guy much shorter than himself who outweighed him too. Sam Peter didn't train for the fight. Kelly Pavlik a much better boxer than Sam Peter. Hopkin's had the more impressive win.
Both are great wins though, but obviously the boxing world was shook up by the display Hopkins put on.
Hopkins. He was a massive underdog, he's coming up to 44, destroyed America's boxing white hope, and it was an interesting fight, unlike Vitali-Peter where you have this giant robot bullying a fat bloke. I don't care if he'd had a long rest, he'd been in the gym working on it every day without fail.
So let's get real. Hopkins has the more impressive victory by miles.
Look back in 10 years and see which fight you'd rather watch. Hopkins produced a classic. Possibly not quite as entertaining as the Calzaghe-Lacy beating, but up there with the best boxing clinics ever witnessed.

Hopkins - 43
Vitali - 37
Hopkins is much older. Heavyweights normally last quite a bit longer than middleweights, too. I don't think people realize how ridiculous it is for Hopkins to be doing what he's doing at his age.
Hopkins - Fought Pavlik
Vitali - Fought Peter
Pavlik coming off of huge impressive victories and P4P top 10. Peter is basically a bum that likes clubbing people in the back of the head en route to ugly decisions.
I think Hopkins was by far more surprising and impressive. I knew Vitali would beat the crap out of that unskilled punching bag.
Hopkins, easy decision. His opponent was way higher up on the p4p list (actually hit the top 10) and was the only true champion (peter merely held the belt, the other Klit is the actual division champ). Beyond the paper stats, Pav is far more dangerous and has looked MUCH better in their previous 3 fights. Not only that, but beyond a 4 year layoff, Hopkins' age and previous performances lead people to think this type of ass whooping was impossible. Truth be told, this is just what the champ looks like when he's hungry and not coming off a 1 year layoff.
I hate to say it but BHops was better, I honestly hate Hopkins as a fighter and dont a much higher opinion of him as a person but beating Pavlik is better than beating Peter. Peters weaknesses were obvious and plentiful, while Pavliks were obvious but I I didnt think Hopkins could school him like that. Especially if you've seen Hopkins last 10 fights or so. I didnt think he could still fight like that. Vitali hasnt performed like he did in 3+ years Hopkins hasnt performed like that in 7
Vitali's win was historic, because for the first time two brothers are heavyweight chapmpions at the same time.
He had been inactive since Dec 11/04 (that's about FOUR years) and the fight was for a world title. He won by stoppage, more impressive than winning a decision. Pavlik was moving up from middleweight to fight a light heavyweight.
Vitali's win was more impressive, but because he's not black and American, more people will vote in this poll for Hopkins.
:bottle::bottle::bottle: You keep me entertained. I'll give you that. Comical :lol1:
Pavlik is a FAR better fighter than is Peter in a pound for pound sense. He actually has an understanding of technique and patience.
Both were great wins but Hopkins dominating Pavlik was a bit more unexpected than Vitali dominating Peter. This is simply a case of one opponent being supremely better than the other.
