Ok like Ive said before on this board I've known Kelly for years. And right now I can tell you that i'm stunned and confused on what happend in that ring tonight. For starters I have no idea why Kelly wasn't throwing punches, he usually throws between 70 and 100 punches per round. Is Hopkins that good on defence that he didnt feel comfortable throwing a clean shot? Maybe... Like I said i have no idea. I noticed something wasn't right a minute into the first round, and things never got better.
Youngstown Ohio is behind Kelly now more than ever. Mark my words, we will stay behind our champ. He had an off night bottom line. It happens to every professional athlete once in a while. I've seen Michael Jordan and Lebron James have off nights. Why should boxing be different? Things didn't click tonight. No excuses tho Hopkins proved he is a legend once again tonight and Youngstown Ohio respects him. Im out! GO TEAM PAVLIK!

everytime he threw a jab, he got countered!
I totally agree what next for Pavlik id like to see him give John Duddy a shot at his middlewg titles
It's going to be Marco Antonio Rubio, he beat Enrique Ornelas for the WBO mandatory position.
Dois your a overrated poster. You really are.
A 26 year old moves up a weight class and a half to fight a P4P top 5, all time great and takes a 12UD loss. Wasnt knocked out wasnt even knocked down. Hes 26, this will just be a speed bump.
Who was Hopkins fighting at 26? David McCluskey ****ing 10-21-2 lol
Yes sir, bring him on indeed.
i hope he does his great to watch at middle weight all great fighters lose but they come back stronger well its a sign of a good fighter to learn from a lose & turn it a round at middle his very good wouldn't suggest he go up in weight for a long time but big money fights might take him there he will be in some good fights but hope the loss doesn't do too much to his head anyways no shame.
ps im a fan & of Ray Boom Boom Mancini
this should be a good learning experience for pavlik, and im pretty damn sure he will apply all the things that he has learned from this match over to his next. bring on abraham! :D
Yes sir, bring him on indeed.
I'm sorry, but how is this going to be a good experience for Pavlik?
I'm sure he can't sleep, after the schooling Hopkins just gave him...
Even months down the line, Kelly's gonna be waking up in the middle of the night screaming.
Hopkins is that good on defense, he neutralized Pavlik's main assests which are his jab, right hand and workrate. Pavlik came out cautious, he wanted to see what Hopkins had and Hopkins showed him he had quite a lot left, everytime Pavlik tried to get something going, whether it was the jab, the right hand etc. Hopkins had a counter for it, it went to the point of Pavlik getting very cautious about Hopkins' counters because he got stunned or hurt a few times in the fight from counter shots.
Hopkins surprised everyone, including Pavlik and his team, with how much he had left, his speed was also very surprising for a 43 year old man.
I think the fight being at 170 affected Pavlik but it's hard to say if that's the case or if it was because Hopkins was just so good he made Pavlik look sloppy.

i wouldnt say pavlik had an off night. he just didnt know what he was gettin hisself into when he fought bhop. he never fought someone like hopkins so he was completely overwhelmed. throughout his career pavlik has fought guys who stand in front of him and have alright defense. last night was his first time steppin in the ring with an elusive target with great defense and boxing skill. he simply couldnt adapt and therefore lost the fight. I give pavlik respect cause it took balls to challenge hopkins and at that weight. not too many fighters are willing to move up in weight and go directly after one of the top guys in that weight class. to me that shows courage and thats something boxing needs more of. well whatever the case good victory bhop and im more than sure kelly pavlik will bounce back. he shouldnt feel too bad cause he lost to a living legend and ATG. And he didnt give up and he tried his best. No shame in that.
Ok you say he was light years beyond him???? What the hell??? Pavlik beat Taylor twice and Hopkins got beat by Taylor twice. Yeah Ill say it again something wasnt right tonight!
No, not all of us agree. Pavlik got lucky in the first Taylor fight and out-boxed in the second. I thought Taylor won the second fight by at least a couple of points. Yes, I'll say it again -- Taylor beat Pavlik in the rematch but the panel voted for what they thought was the bigger cash cow who could make them more money in the long run. They didn't score that fight on sklills, footwork and lateral movement, being an overall better boxer, or anything else that eluded and ultimately let Kelly Pavlik down tonight. Putting a relatively untested fighter --at least, at elite level-- against a seasoned veteran who became what he is for a very good reason was always a bad idea, and as I warned in other posts, many people were making a mistake by putting all their eggs into Pavlik's basket.
In short, Pavlik got Lacy'd tonight.
I hope he can bounce back and correct his mistakes. Unfortunately, Bernard Hopkins drew the blueprint on how to defeat him, and now he has to deal with that shadow over his head. Best of luck to him, he's a nice kid. He should consider getting a decent trainer, though.
BTW, triangle theory = BS. Styles make fights, as cliché as that sounds, it's true. This is why someone like Calzaghe is light years ahead of many other fighters -- the ability to adjust, which in effect both strengthens and negates the cliché I just stated. Many styles make a better fight, meaning if you can change your style, you're more likely to win. Kelly needs to learn how to adjust and bring more than a single game plan.

Pavlik has the worst left power punch in the sport he has a left jab but that's it
He definitely has to work on his hook, he slaps with his left hook, if he adds a powerful hook to his arsenal he'd be that much for dangerous, he needs to go to the body more as well, he's a good body puncher when he actually goes to the body, which isn't often enough.
everything you said was on point:fing02:
I thought Team Pavlik was a bit over-confident......I just hope they take this slice of humbling pie well because Kelly is STILL the man at 160.
160 is where he belongs right now, as you said, he's still the man there and is very hard to beat at that weight.
I completely agree man. Pavlik is my boy and I just couldn't understand what was going on, but when you break it down, your post is about as accurate as it comes. Sad night for us here in Y-Town but hey, we'll be back at MW. All props to Hop.
Yeah man, Pavlik will be back and probably will be better than he was before the fight.

I think Loew thought the fight was in the bag after seeing Hopkins vs Calzaghe. That being said Kelly was not himself tonight he did not work or adjust, Hopkins executed his plan well, it seemed Kelly was discouraged early on and it worsened as the fight went on. Props to Hopkins he stuck to the plan and was on his game tonight till the closing bell.
Inexperience plain and simple. Hopkins showed something Team Pavlik wasn't expecting and neither Pavlik nor his corner had a plan to adjust. Right from the bell Hopkins surprised them and put them off balance for the remainder of the fight.

I will admit though seems he had zero power at this weight not that it would make a difference Hopkins destroys this poor boy at ANY weight
:lol1::lol1: all day homie.....all day!
